[39]-
I was fuming with anger and vengeance, even as I strutted into the restaurant in a short a$$ dress—borrowed from Zoey—and wedged heels. I noticed that heads of various other customer—male customers definitely turned as I walked by with bouncing curls on my shoulders. Let’s see what happens when Mr. Alpha doesn’t want me now.
“Hey Alicia,” Carina greeted with a smile. I smiled back and gave her a hug. I took a seat by her and saw as Mason, Tori, Jasmine, Eli, Wes, April, Carina, Tommy, and Nathaniel sat at the table. Hm.
“Where’s the birthday boy?” Jasmine asked, mocking the exact thought I had as she sat to my left.
“Yeah. He’s been in the bathroom for quite some time,” Nathaniel commented as if he cared. Oh Nathaniel, sarcasm serves you just.
“I’ll…I’ll go get him,” Eli offered before getting up and fast walking swiftly through the restaurant.
“So did everyone enjoy the party last night?” Carina asked.
“I loved it; I met some pretty interesting people there,” I commented. By “met”, I mean “grinded on”. True story.
“Good,” Carina smiled.
“Yeah…I saw you enjoy it really well,” Wes commented. I looked over to him as he suspiciously looked at me. I shrugged and let the conversation take over the table.
Wes: What are you up to?
I flashed him a look and then texted back:
Me: What ever do you mean..?
I gave him a raised eyebrow as he glared over to me with narrowed eyes.
“There’s our new adult,” Carina addressed as Chase walked in behind Eli. He wore a leather jacket and white dress shirt. His eyes looked over everyone and then landed on me. He gave a smile as I just turned to look at the menu.
I have a plan. If Chase wants to act like he’s my “best friend”, yet act like he’s not the Alpha that doesn’t want me, I’ll make him want me. But that doesn’t mean I’ll act all seductive and sh!t like some sl*t. I’ll just play the simplest card in the deck; jealousy.

“Can I cut in?” a familiar voice asked as my arms were around some guy’s neck as we danced. He was very attractive and asked me to dance. I looked over to Chase.
“Nope,” I popped the p. I looked back up to Aaron—the guy that asked me to dance—and we carried on with our conversation and Chase cleared his throat. He tapped Aaron’s shoulder. He looked over to Chase, who stood inches taller than him and gave him a look.
“Chase,” I warned.
“Alicia,” he said back in the same tone.
“Look. If this is a problem…” Aaron started.
“No—”
“Yes,” Chase said as the same time I said no. I sighed in stress and looked up to Aaron. I whispered that I’ll go with Chase and Aaron shrugged sadly before leaving. I stood with my arms crossed as I glared at Chase. He offered a hand. “One dance. That’s all I request.”
I rolled my eyes and took his hand to dance with him. I can’t believe him. He was playing me. He acted like a gentleman, acting like he liked me back sometimes, yet has some Alpha façade that insisted not to wanna be with me. Since I realized I liked him, I wanted to be with him…but I guess not.
“What’s wrong?” he asked me half way into the song.
“You pulled me away from the one chance I had with another guy outside of this stupid pack,” I muttered.
“So you can’t just find someone at school, rather than dress like this and meet some stranger?” he asked as if he cared.
“No. I can’t,” I said. “Because if he went to our school, the same sh!t would happen with you guys interrupting everything.”
And the fact that no guy wants me at school…I’m apparently ‘The Group’s property’.
“You say that like it’s a bad thing,” he commented in a laugh. Hmm. I’m glad he thinks I’m amusing.
“It is a bad thing,” I agreed.
“Not really,” he shrugged. Ugh. I scoffed and then walked away and out the doors. How can he be acting like he cares, when he’s supposedly the cold hearted Alpha that doesn’t want to be with me? I sat down on the steps and sighed. “Um what did I do now?”
I sighed as my hand covered my mouth and my hair covered my face.
“Is it because I told that guy to go away?” he asked. “You can find another guy, Alicia.”
I rolled my eyes.
“Obviously not,” I said beneath my breath. I knew he heard me, though. He sat down next to me and grabbed my hands.
“Any guy would be lucky to be with you,” he whispered, looking in both of my eyes. I pushed him away from me and scoffed. He gave me a questioning look as I stood up on the sidewalk.
“How dare you act like everything’s fine when it’s not.”
“What—”
“Don’t say that any guy would wanna be with me, because the guy I thought I liked doesn’t,” I shouted and felt a tear slide down my face. Stupid breaking point… “Because my apparent ‘soul mate’ doesn’t even want to be with me even though he acts like some bipolar best friend to me all of the time that lies more than I thought.”
His lips parted and his eyes widened because he realized I knew it was him.
I wiped my face before walking off.

Carina’s POV
“Who told her!?” Chase shouted, slamming his hands on the table when we all met back up at the dining table. I noticed that Alicia’s chair next to me was empty between Jasmine and I. We gave each other a look and then gulped.
“Told what?” Mason asked.
“Told who?” Tommy asked.
“Alicia, dumba$$,” Wes answered him.
“Who told her!?” Chase roared again.
“Told her what?” Eli asked.
“That I’m the Alpha!” he answered. I slid down in my seat.
“Dude. What the fu** just happened?” Wes asked.
“I don’t know. She found out that I’m the Alpha and now she hates me,” Chase said.
Sh!t. This is all my fault…I thought he had told her that information and asked me to confirm it or something.
“Serves you right,” Nathaniel commented.
“Shut the fu** up,” Chase retorted.
“He’s right,” Wes commented. “It serves you right. You knew she’d hate you when you told her that her mate is the Alpha and you didn’t wanna be with her.”
“But I didn’t tell her about me being the Alpha,” Chase hissed.
Ugh…I feel guilty now. Fuuuuuu*kkkkkk…
“Chase, I can’t believe you would do that to her after how close you two were,” Tori commented.
“After she let you in—”
“In what? She hasn’t let me done sh!t,” Chase interrupted.
“Oh yeah. Then why does she trust you like she trusts nobody else; not even Wes?” Jasmine said. “Why do you think she can’t stay mad at you? You’re different to her just like she’s different to you.”
Yes. That means she liked him.
Chase’s jaw tensed up and he looked away with mad and depressed dark eyes.
“It doesn’t matter,” he muttered. He hit the table again. “Who the fu** told her?”
“It doesn’t matter,” Nathaniel mumbled.
“Shouldn’t you go find her?” April suggested. I admire April. She knows that her soul mate loves the Alpha’s mate, yet she’s still compelled to love and be with Wes, yet wants the best for Alicia.
“I’ll go find her when I know who the h3ll told her,” Chase informed. He looked to Wes. “It was you wasn’t it?”
“Chase—”
“After I finally order something of you, you go and stab me in the back for your fu**ing ex-girlfriend?!”
“No,” Wes said standing up. “She asked me who the Alpha was and I didn’t answer her; so you can stop acting like some selfish fu**ing douche bag and go find her already.”
“You fu**ing little—”
“I told her,” I squeaked. They all calmed down. I didn’t want them to fight. I rather Chase and I just fight so there’s no chance of danger or punishment to anyone in the pack.
“You what?!” Everyone roared. I cringed and felt my brother glaring daggers at me.
Oh sh!t.
***
“How could you?” Chase asked once we got home and I plopped myself in the recliner. “I told everyone to keep their mouths shut and then my own sister goes behind my back?!”
“I want what’s best for you!” I informed. “I don’t care if you don’t think it’s best; I know what’s best for you and for her. She should’ve known by now anyways.”
“It wasn’t your sh!t to tell, Carina,” he reasoned. “And now she hates me because you ruined it.”
“I ruined it? Or you ruined it already?” I asked. “If you told her in the beginning—”
“I didn’t want to tell her at all!” he shouted.
“Why? She’s your soul mate; you should be with her—”
“And I thought I made it clear that I don’t want to be,” he interrupted.
“Well you should!” I yelled. “I care about both of you, and both of you would be better and happier if you were together.”
“No. It wouldn’t be,” he insisted.
“Yes it would—”
“Why the fu** do you even care?” he asked as if it were a crime to care about my other brother and his destined love life. I stood up as he shouted at me.
“I don’t want you to turn out like Dane,” I whispered under his shouting. He stopped throwing cuss words and questions and assumptions at me. I pushed past him and went into my room, slamming the door.
Me to Alicia: I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have told you anything.
Minutes passed and she didn’t reply. I changed out of my formal wear and into pajamas so I could fall asleep and forget the fact that this is the second time one of my brothers hates me. There was a knock on the door, but I remained in my sleeping position. Chase was being ridiculous; he should be with Alicia. My bad as his sister to want what’s best for him…
“Do you really think I should be with her?” Chase whispered after I heard the door open. He came over and sat on the other side of my bed as I faced away from him. “Car, I know you’re up.”
I didn’t answer.
“If I try to explain to her, you think she’ll take me back?” he asked. I rolled over to face him and his ridiculous question.
“‘Take you back’? You’ll be lucky if she takes you at all,” I answered, incredulously. He sighed. “Bro, she really liked you and you screwed it up.”
“No thanks to you,” he mumbled. I smacked his shoulder.
“I told her because it was right and she should’ve already known.”
“Obviously not because now she hates me,” he repeated.
“And obviously if you would’ve said ‘Wes isn’t your soul mate; I am, and oh yeah, I’m also the Alpha’, we wouldn’t be having this problem,” I mocked his voice for the quote. He groaned and then plopped onto my bed.
Alicia: No. I’m glad u did
I closed the text and Chase noticed that I was on my phone.
“Are you still talking to her?” Chase asked incredulously. He reached over to grab my phone. And thus started our battle on the bed to try and get my phone. And then I pushed his face away.
“Chase, this is my phone, not yours,” I reminded.
“What’d she say? What’d you say?” he asked as he basically sat on top of me.
“She said that’s she’s glad I told her when I apologized for telling her in the first place,” I informed. He slid off of me and brought out his phone. He tapped the screen as if he was typing a paragraph.
“Chase, you better not be texting her,” I warned.
“Shh,” he ordered. I crawled over as he sat on the edge of the bed and saw a text message that was three pages so far and half—most—of it in all capital letters. So I took the phone from him. “Carina! Give. It. Back.”
“I’m not gonna let you ruin your relationship with her anymore,” I vowed as I deleted the draft. Chase grabbed my wrists and pinned me to the bed.
“You’re the reason there is no relationship with her,” he hissed. I flinched at the truth. I pushed him off of me.
“And that’s why I want this to work out,” I whispered. “Now…go to bed or something.”
“But—”
“Go,” I ordered.
“Can I have my phone back?” he asked.
“Are you gonna text her?” I asked. He sighed.
“No,” he lied.
“Then no,” I replied.
“Fine. I’ll text her,” he decided.
“Um alright,” I shrugged and snuggled myself into my covers.
“Uh. Can I have my phone back?” he asked as if I was humoring him.
“Nope.”
“What?! Why not—ugh. You girls are confusing!” he expressed before I felt him get up from my bed and walk out.
“Love you too!” I called after him before quietly laughing. I looked down to his phone and sighed before grabbing my own.
Me to Alicia: He meant well
Alicia: Sure. Yeah right. Meant so well that I’ll forget about him
Me: Please don’t.
Alicia: Whatever. He doesn’t want me, then he can’t have me. If he says I don’t mean anything, then I’ll show him everything I can be
Me: He didn’t mean what he said if he said anything like that
Alicia: Oh yeah. Well I think he did
Me: But he didn’t. He’s just being…uh. Stubborn
Alicia: Whatever Carina. Stay out of it.
And just to actually contradict that, I know what I had to do. I grabbed Chase’s phone.
Chase to Alicia: I’m sorry 4 hurting u. When I said u didn’t mean anything 2 me, it’s cuz its true. Cuz u mean EVERYTHING 2 me.
I immediately got out of my bed and rushed over to Chase’s room. I put his phone faced down on his table, covering part of it with a cloth. Whatever happens from there…happens.
