Chapter 13
~ Darren’s anger and a new lead~
“Why did you have to be so damn rude?” I questioned the smirking demon, whose smirk in return, merely widened. I was beyond irritated at this point, but who could blame me. He is a painfully annoying jerk.
“I for one, chère, wasn’t rude. As for that pesky mutt, he should learn where his place is.”I sighed irritated. Whatever I said, it won’t change his attitude. Than a question came to me. Had he always been like this? Bitter and incredibly rude? Glancing over at his, I saw him sitting on the edge of my bed just staring off into space. I sighed and shifted in my chair turning my attention back to the window as I admired the night sky.
“Something bothering you?” My expression turned into one of surprise at Darren’s sudden question, though I didn’t bother to turn to him as I resumed my staring.
“Why do you ask? Or better yet, why do you care?” He chuckled, but it was a dark sound.
“You are right, I don’t. I just figured you were scared of those werewolves on the loose. As I said, pesky creatures that need to learn where they place is.” He said the last part more to himself then me though.
I sighed, but choose to remain silent. “How do you know about those werewolves anyway? I highly dub Cassandra simply told you out of pure will.” Even though I couldn’t see it I imagined him smirking.
“As I said, chère, you figure people out fast, don’t you? But, yes, you are right; Cassandra didn’t tell me out of pure will. I happened to have been there when she was informed of them.” I nodded, just now realizing how tired I truly was.
“I see…” I mumbled getting up and proceeding to get to bed since I already was in my PJ’s. Darren raised a brow as I lifted of the covers on the other side of the bed, which wasn’t being occupied by his large form, slowly getting into bed.
“You aren’t seriously already going to sleep.” He said, or more like questioned. I merely tiredly groaned in response, rolling over so I was facing away from him and to the window.
“So boring. Well, I guess I will be seeing you tomorrow. Farewell, chère. I hope you have nightmares.” He added the last part in a dark whisper as I heard him snap his fingers, meaning he was gone.
I rolled my eyes and closed them soon after drifting off into the land of dreams, thinking sarcastically to myself. I hope you are enjoying yourself, Darren. I really hope you do.

“And that is how you make fire.” I stared at her as she balanced the small flame on her palm as if it was the most normal thing to do.
“If you say so auntie.” My voice was a bit unsure as I tried to correctly do everything she advised me too.
Strangely enough, Darren hadn’t been there this morning. This made me feel strange. No, not sad, or happy. Just strange. I guess I kind of gotten used to him. Even if he is an ass.
I smiled at the thought, making the flame that appeared in my hand flare up and then disappear. Rachel scoffed.
“Concentration, concentration is essential.” I nodded though my thoughts were somewhere else. Sure, this whole thing was interesting. Not a lot of people can say that they made fire appear on their palm without burning them self. But Darren had been right, I was worried about those werewolves. What if they killed more people?
~With Chad and Darren~
“You don’t have to be here you know?” Stated the wolf as the displeased demon merely huffed while rolling his electric blue eyes.
“Don’t tell me what to do mutt. I am not here because I want to be, but because I don’t trust you.” The werewolf gave him a mock hurt expression, but then quickly dropped it while smirking.
Those two had been in the forest for the past two hours search for some kind of clue as to who those werewolves could be. They didn’t have any luck. Though after arriving, Chad was certain that those were werewolves. But, other than their scent, they didn’t leave much. And even their scent disappeared after a while of walking away from the scene. Like they had vanished. Could it be that they are working together with demons?
That had been Chad’s first guess, but then again, he would have smelled them. Right?
“For a dog you are doing a horrible job at tracking somebody.”Mocked the demon, while giving a cocky expression towards the already irritated wolf.
Chad had had enough as a howl ripped through the air and Darren quickly disappeared, not wanting to be the wolf’s new chew toy.
What a nuisance. Thought the brown coated wolf while bringing his muzzle in the air, sniffing it lightly.
His eyes narrowed as he finally got a clearer smell. One didn’t hide that well after all.
~Back with Sarah~
“I’m done.” I stated tiredly while dropping down on the couch. Am I supposed to feel so tired after this? I guess I will have ask Rachel about it later on.
Rachel had previously gone off with Cleo, to do, well, I wasn’t too sure, but whatever it was, I wasn’t allowed to know. Which was perfectly fine with me.
“Tell me about it.”I almost jumped, but quickly recognized the voice to be Darren’s so I remained sitting, restraining from rolling my eyes.
“What do you want Darren?” He putted a hand to his chest, where his heart was supposed to be, giving me a mock hurt expression. Do demons even have a heart?
“Why, hello to you too, chère.” This time I rolled my eyes, but remained seated.
“I’m too tired to put up with you. Where were you anyway?” He smirked sitting down opposite of me.
“Worried about me, chère?” I huffed. “You wish.” He chuckled darkly. “Not really.” Not the replay I was expecting, but this is Darren we are talking about. I raised a brow arguing him to speak.
“I had to spend two hours of my existence with that pesky mutt, searching for those supposed werewolves, only to find nothing. At least be grateful.”I raised a brow.
“Why should I be? I didn’t ask you to go. Poor Chad though, he had to put up with you for two hours.” He glared at and I swear, if he wasn’t supposed to protect me, he would have killed me right then and there.
“You are pushing it, chère.” I shrugged not really caring. You have been ‘pushing’ it for the past couple of weeks.
“Did you burn something down, or why does it smell like fire in here?” I shrugged. “I was practicing.” He raised a brow muttering something about witches under his breath.

After what seemed like an eternity with me sitting and reading a book while Darren kept making unwanted comments, the bell of the front door rung, causing me to get up to answer it, but net before warning Darren.
“Stay quiet.” He rolled his eyes. “Wont’ be necessary, it’s only the mutt.”I glared at him, but then shook my head and went to open the door to indeed find Chad in front of it.
“Come in.” he nodded while following me inside. Upon seeing him Darren clapped slightly giving him a mocking stare.
“Well, if it isn’t Lassie finally returning home.” I glared at him as Chad merely ignored him turning his attention rather to me, than to the frustrated demon.
“I found a lead. It’s rather fresh, but I didn’t want to go without back up.” He said shifting his eyes over to Darren who in return huffed.
“Great, now I’m needed. Weren’t you exact words, ‘you don’t have to be here’. Well, guess what, now I don’t want to be.” I gave Darren a glare, even though I had no idea what he was talking about, he was still rude.
“You won’t let him go without backup.” I stated or, more like ordered. He narrowed his eyes at me while standing up and walking in front of me making Chad stand between us. Well, at least somebody cares whether I live or die.
“Darren, we both know that you have to listen to me. It’s your own fault, or would you prefer if I involved Alexandria in this?” At the mentioning of her name Darren grabbed Chad’s neck, though not hard enough for Chad to be unable to speak.
“Do not, ever, say her name in front of me again.”He threatened his eyes turning black. I gasped slightly, not only was his iris turning black, but his whole eyes. Damn, talk about scary, up until now I haven’t really thought of Darren as a demon, but now I see that that was a mistake. He truly was a demon, and they way his face looked now, I honestly didn’t want to see that ever again.
Darren however quickly snapped out of it and let go of Chad his eyes slowly turning back to their electric blue. I stood frozen to the spot waiting for his next move. He gave me a mere glance, his eyes fully turned back before passing by Chad muttering something which made the werewolf follow him, but not before giving me a look, kind of to conform me, before leaving out the door like the demon had previously.
Why does he hate this Alexandria so much?
~~
“What’s with the long face?” Questioned Cleo, once her and my aunt came back from wherever they had been.
I shrugged slumping slightly into the couch while closing my eyes. “It’s nothing really. Just that Chad found a lead to the werewolves, so he and Da…”I stopped slightly at his name remembering his eyes before shaking my head slightly, reopening my eyes to give Cleo my full attention just as Rachel walked back into the room.” Darren went out to investigate and haven’t been back yet and it’s already getting dark.”
Cleo gave me a small smile while Rachel sat down next to her. “They are both grown put adults, well, old they are…ahem, and anyway, I’m sure they are just fine.” Rachel shrugged. “Hopefully we will get rid of the demon though.” I sighed. She seemed to hate the very mentioning of Darren.
“Aunt Rachel, he isn’t that bad.” She gave me a look as I rolled my eyes. Alright, she may be right, but still, his death I didn’t wish. That is, if demon can aren’t already dead.
~With Chad and Darren~
Darren gave a displeased sigh as the werewolf gave him a scoffing expression.
“You scared her, you know?” The demon rolled his eyes giving a sharp look in Chad’s direction.
“Come on, she knows this is dangerous. Besides, somebody needed to remind her that this isn’t a game.” Chad stayed silent. He knew that Darren was right. But still, the fear in the girl’s eyes remained him so much of her. It had been a century since he had thought of her, too long, yet the pain was still fresh.
“They are somewhere in the north. I will shift and go in, you stay in the background, if anything happens, or there are too many, get me out of there.” Darren rolled his eyes as the werewolf gave him instructions. As if he didn’t know how those thing worked. He though with a snort while watching the lycan change into his true form.
The sight was truly terrifying, or at least for a human it would be. For Darren however it was nothing but a bore. Once the sound of bones breaking and remodeling were done as well as flesh ripping in front of him stood a 2 meter high werewolf. No, he didn’t not look like a wolf, but like a werewolf.
His upper body was still slightly formed like a human’s, with a built chest area, the lycan, even though he stood on his back feet supported his upper body with his front legs (or arms). He looked like something between a man and a beast, though the head was wolf like. Yellow eyes were scanning the grounds landing on the only living...no wait, on the only creature, (yes, that’s more like it) in sight.
A wolf looked like a puppy next to this creature. His low breathing even sounded dangerous as his claws glistened in the low moon light. Why this form? Though the already annoyed immortal as his blue eyes looked over the now complete creature.
Darren sighed with impatience. “Come on mutt, I don’t have the whole night.” Yes they decided to leave at night, probably worrying the girl to dead, or at least those were Chad’s thoughts.
The lycan growled in response causing electric blue yes to shift into a glare. “Don’t growl at me. Just get moving.” The lycan growled once more, lowly under his breath before disappearing into the dark forest and towards the named direction.
Darren sighed once more before disappearing into the trees.
