“So you’ll just come over then?” Jackson asked on Thursday as we held hands and swung them.

“Well I guess I have to,” I laughed. He needed help on his math, so I was gonna help him.

“Hey, Alicia, can you do me a favor?” Eli asked walking up with Jasmine. I dropped hands with Jackson and turned to them.

“Um depends on the favor, but sure?” I replied.

“Can you help me on our paper for English?” He asked, scratching behind his head.

“Um sure. When?”

“Today after school. You can come to the house,” he invited.

Your house, or…?”

The house. I mean it’s a group paper—”

“No,” I interrupted.

“No?” he asked, confused.

“I’m not working on a paper with Chase being out and hating me, and Wes being mad at me,” I clarified. And then I was pressed against the lockers by a new person.

“I’m not mad at you,” he hissed before easing up and walking down the hall in his black jeans and dark hoodie.

“You sure act like it!” I yelled after him.

“So it’s a no?” Eli asked, disappointed.

“Eli, if it was just you and Mason, then it would be a yes,” I replied.

“Well Mason and I are hanging out at the house, so…”

“It’s still a no,” I nodded.

“And plus, you’re coming home with me today,” Jackson sang.

“Correct, you are” I pointed. I turned back to Eli. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine,” he mumbled before walking off with Jasmine.

“You know, you could’ve actually gone with them. I’m okay with missing two pages of math,” Jackson said to me.

“Nope. I rather have math then spend it doing that,” I grumbled as we walked off.

“What’s up with you, Chase, and Wes?” he asked. “I know Wes is your ex, but Chase…I don’t even know him.”

“Wes being my ex doesn’t mean anything. He’s more of a best friend,” I said, first of all. “Chase is…different.”

“Why haven’t I met him?”

“He hasn’t been here, but that was him on Tuesday when we were at the park,” I answered.

“Oh.”

I looked up at Jackson’s twisted face. I still never explained anything concerning the drama with Chase.

“He’s not my ex,” I informed. He looked relieved.

“Good,” he laughed. “So then what’s up with you and him?”

“A long story,” I whined. “He’s supposed to be my best friend but we have a lot of sh!t between each other.”

“Well I have nothing to worry about so…” he said. You have no idea…

“No excuses, Halle,” a male voice said as Jackson and I were watching TV in the living room after finishing our work. We turned and I saw a man and child. The man had curly black hair and light brown eyes and was dressed in business attire. The girl on the other hand, had black hair and looked similar to Jackson. It must be his sister…

“Dad—” Halle started to whine.

“Up to your room,” their dad commanded. I heard the girl scoff and roll her eyes as she stomped up the stairs. The man shook his head and then walked over to the couch.

“Hey…” Jackson said.

“Your sister needs help,” he expressed to Jackson with wide eyes.

“I thought she is getting help,” Jackson responded. His father sighed and then turned to me. “Who’s this young lady?”

“Alicia,” I introduced, shaking his hand.

“Professor Scott,” he returned. Jackson laughed.

“Dad…you’re not in a classroom,” Jackson reminded.

“Well I just wanted to state my occupation,” he smiled. He turned back to me. “Mr. Scott. My apologies.”

“No problem,” I laughed. “So you’re a professor.”

“And you are a student,” he notified. “If you ever attend this city’s university—”

Dad,” Jackson moaned. “She’s not gonna want to take your silly class—”

“What do you teach?” I asked, interested.

“History for majors, but on the side I teach historic mythology,” he informed. Mythology.

“What kind of mythology?” I asked.

“He is obsessed with the kind of mythical creatures you find in those horror movies; you know, vampires, werewolves, witches—oh my,” Jackson humored. “I’m sure that if these boxes were all unpacked, you’d see what I’m talking about.”

There goes his ‘knowledge about mythical creatures’…

“That’s cool,” I commented.

“Not really,” Jackson snorted. “It’s stupid.”

“I don’t think so,” I decided.

“Finally a believer!” Mr. Scott exclaimed. I laughed lightly.

“It’s a bunch of bull sh…I mean crap,” Jackson corrected himself from cussing.

“I think you’re jealous,” I sang.

“Of some monsters that get media made about them completely portrayed in the wrong way? Yeah right,” Jackson defended.

“You’re just hating cuz you’re a normal human,” I stuck my tongue out. Thank God he was a normal human.

“Right…” Jackson said, playfully rolling his eyes. His dad laughed once before walking away. “You should bring us dinner when you come back in here!”

“That would be a negative,” his dad responded once he was back in the living room after changing from his suit pants to some jeans. “Because I am going out and you can get your lazy butt up to retrieve your own food.”

“Going out where?” Jackson asked. “You just got here.”

“Well there’s this girl—”

Oh God,” Jackson groaned, throwing a pillow over his face.

“She was my girlfriend in high school before we got separated,” he finished. “I found her online and we started to…rekindle our relationship.”

“Wow,” Jackson commented. “When do I get to meet her?”

“Well…I don’t know yet, but soon,” he answered.

“Well I’m happy for you,” I told Mr. Scott.

“Thank you, Alicia,” he smiled before walking off and leaving.

“Is he gone?!” a voice yelled from upstairs.

“No!” Jackson lied. I smacked his shoulder and he gave me a look. “She’s grounded anyways.”

“Right,” I nodded. “So it sounds like you have a new addition to the family.”

“You mean my dad’s girlfriend? Yeah right,” He replied.

“Let me guess, you’re one of those kids that doesn’t like it when their parents date someone other than their deceased partner,” I guessed.

“Nah. I want him to get over my mom, but he’s gotten over her so much in the last few years…”

“Meaning?”

“Meaning, she’s probably just another girlfriend of his,” he shrugged.

“Well you don’t know that. Maybe they used to be in love,” I assumed. “Maybe they still are.”

“Right…” he said doubtful. “Whatever though. I’ll hope for the best.”

“Lucky you,” I said. “My mom’s dating some guy and she’s completely gaga for him.”

“You say that like it’s a bad thing,” he commented.

“Well I mean, I don’t want some guy to replace my dad,” I whispered. He looked down to me as his arm stretched along the top of the couch.

“Don’t worry about it. I’m sure it’s nothing,” he whispered back.

“Let’s hope so,” I moaned. He took me in a hug and then we continued with our hang out.

Jackson’s POV

“Did your b!tch leave?” Halle spat when I climbed the stairs.

“You’re still here,” I reminded. She scoffed. Whatever.

Jackson…” she whined as I passed her to go to my room.

“Shut it,” I commanded. She placed a hand on my chest. I stopped walking and hung my head into a roll to look at her. “Move.”

“Is she your girlfriend?” she asked, mad.

“Nunya,” I replied, before walking around her. She grabbed my arm and turned me around.

“Is she, or not?!” she hissed. I grabbed her and pushed her into the wall.

“It’s none of your d4mn business,” I muttered. If I answered her, she’d try to ruin any relationship had with her. Just like last time. I let her go after looking into her deep matching brown eyes. I didn’t want to waste any time. My side was hurting more than ever. Ever since my dad got here it’s been stinging, but I didn’t wanna say anything. I walked into my room and moved boxes over before reaching my bathroom. I pulled off my shirt and sighed. I unwrapped the gauze and my eyes widened.

It disappeared.

“Jackson?” Halle asked, knocking on the door.

“Not now,” I responded. I wiped a hand over my side and felt nothing but smooth skin. How was this possible. I turned around and saw a familiar boy standing in my room.

“What are you doing here?” I asked, scared. He took steps towards me as his thumbs were tucked in his skinny jeans.

“What do you think?” his deep voice responded. I looked around and laid my eyes on my nylon baseball bat. I grabbed it to arm myself. He only laughed. “Nice weapon.”

“I sure hope so,” I whispered to myself. My side started to burn. “What did you do to me?!”

I grabbed my side and dropped to the ground.

“Actually, right now I’m not doing anything. That’s your own pain,” he informed. Ugh. What the fu**? “You’re stronger than I thought you’d be; I mean you sat through hours with Alicia without even doing anything. And then your dad and his girlfriend—”

“What are you talking about?” I asked, confused.

“You know what I’m talking about,” he winked. “When something finally happens, you know where to go.”

And then he disappeared. UGH.

“Jackson? Are you okay?” Halle asked, muffled by the door.

“Yes,” I lied.

This was not happening. I do not believe this.

“Jackson, I’m coming in,” Halle said. I threw on my shirt as I heard the door turn. “What are you doing…?”

“Nothing. Get out of my room,” I demanded.

“Look. Just because of what happened, happened, doesn’t mean you can hate me—”

“Yes it does!” I yelled. “Because of you, everything screwed up. So yes I have a reason to hate you.”

“Jackson, we’re twins,” she reminded in a break down.

“Maybe that’s the problem,” I said. She opened her mouth to say something, but then didn’t. My heart started to race as I started to get mad for the fact of everything that happened between me and her in the past week or so. My body started to hurt and something flashed in my mind before I pushed her out of the way and made my way out of the house.

And since then, things I didn’t believe, was coming true. But I, unfortunately, knew where to go. But I forced myself not to go there. I’m not giving in so easily.

Alicia’s POV

Hello?”

“Hey, did you finish the paper?” I asked Eli once I got home.

Paper?” he asked.

“English? As in the language and the class?” I recalled.

Oh right,” he said. “Look, can I go?”

“Um well you can, but I was gonna ask if you wanted me to come over to your house to work on it…”

I’m at the house,” he informed.

Still? Dude. It’s—”

Look. I gotta go,” he interrupted.

“Um alright. I’ll see you tomorrow?”

Bye,” he said before hanging up. Um? I guess I’ll just wait until tomorrow? If I even see him…
