The walls echoed whispers, aiming them at me deliberately, telling me something was wrong with me. I sat up in the bed I had been lying in and came to consciousness about ten seconds later to find a limp had taken residence on my left temple and an IV had been embedded into my wrist. Ripping the needles from my veins made me cringe in torture in the cold, dead air because even the slightest touch made pain shot up my wrist to the tips of my fingers however I ignored the pain and tore the needles from my skin anyway.
Now I could walk down the hall however, looking back through the narrow keyhole of time just not, I would have done anything to stay in that scary room so I could hide away and chain myself to safety. I came to recognize this notion by how I’m doing this very moment in time. I’m hiding in alleys, under highways and bridges, cross country and sometimes, if I’m lucky enough to get a non-expensive plane ticket, overseas.
Hazing out, I yawned and leaned against the stones and boxes that jammed their way into the crook of my back and dreamed off to reminisce…
“You alright, babe?” I recognized Shane as my eyes followed his striped shirt to his face, which was ultimately a miracle because I had almost forgotten what he looked like. With his beautiful hazel eyes and gorgeous dark hair, he could fool anyone into doing anything in ‘bout six seconds flat.
“Yeah, I’m good. What ‘bout yourself?” Along his lips emerged a small knowing smile and it almost looked like the titanic had just risen from the sea with all its glory days and refinement had stayed intact. “I’m the one who called the ambulance for you.” His eyes seemed to catapult regret into me, catching my heart and making my face burn up in a tomato shade.
“Rightly so. Thank you. Anyway, I should be getting back to class.” Standing up from the wobbly white table that could only come from the school cafeteria, I scrambled for my stuff. That’s when Shane flew foreword and pinned me to the floor with the table I had been sitting at slammed against my diaphragm. I could feel his fingers scorching, burning, embedding scars into my neck. For the whole next minute, all sixty seconds, I gave my boyfriend the helpless victim look in hopes he would release me. Denying my silent requests, he wrapped his beautifully, super-humanly strong fingers tighter around my throat.
The world faded however I could sense him still in the room, stalking the windows like a paranoid hawk watching her baby eggs. Within the hour, I guess, he presumed me dead because his presence left the over turned cafeteria like he was straying a civilized coyote in the desert. Waking put me into a delirious state as I threw the table off of me and I realized that the trash had combusted into a mini inferno around me.
“Oh my…” Raging tears came to my eyes as I ducked my head into my kicked up knees. “Hey, chick, come on. Don’t cry! I sure hate it when pretty girls cry!” I was afraid to look at the man in fear it was Shane but, like the IV I would be ripping out from my wrist soon enough, however I looked up at him anyway. The strange man had a long brunette ponytail, a thick country accent, a tannish complexion, and crystal blue eyes. He helped me up and dragged me from the burning cafĂ© into the sky on his white, extended wings. When I looked down, I felt like a bird. We were high in the sky and I could see specks of blue and green in the ground below us. I’ve always had a fear of heights but, for some odd reason, it seemed to pass. His eyes didn’t avert my blues and greens that coated my neck however he quickly smirked and then kissed my forehead gingerly.
“So, that Shane guy, does he mean something to you?” Tossing a glance over my shoulder, I sighed and caught the only tear I had for him but I think it was just from shock.
“Not much anymore, why?” To this response, he didn’t answer with a complete answer but instead a single sound.
“Hmm…”
I woke up the next moment, exiting my memories, and smiled into Dean’s arms. Dean is the one who saved me from the mini inferno that would have snatched my life from and burned my remains without a second thought like a kleptomaniac almost. About a month ago, Dean saved me from Shane. No one told me this but Shane was actually a malevolent kitsune with nothing better to do then take innocent human girls, abuse them, kidnap them and then kill them after he has had his fun. Blah blah blah blah blah, more explaining is in order but right now I’m going to have me a good cuddle with my new boyfriend Dean and yet another good nap because Dean is the man I love and I wouldn’t miss him for the world. He wouldn’t miss me, little old George, for the world either.
