I looked down at my footing then back up to see if they'd heard me when... they were gone. They vanished. I glanced around quickly but it was getting darker and my eye weren't adjusting.

My entire trip back to Akira's cottage I spent making cautious steps and glances around for any movement around me but I never heard a peep. And it was a forest! Forests usually make noise. Odd...

When I was finally in the safety of the cottage I sighed and jumped when Akira's angered voice boomed in my ear.

"And just WHERE have you been?!" She growled. I winced at her voice that was ringing in my over-sensitive ears.

I was arguing with myself on whether I should tell her about the stranger walking through the woods or just let it go. Even though it seemed strange, if must not have been something to fret over for they didn't attack me so I guess nothing important... But still quite odd, I won't deny that.

"Nowhere in particular, walked around for a bit." I said as I started towards my room.

Akira followed. "By yourself?! Why didn't you have June go with you?" Akira questioned. Just then June walked in her eyes widening slightly before stepping in.

"That would be my fault miss; I walked out to do some errands..."

I shrugged. "Why's it matter anyways? This town’s safe, why can't I just walk around by myself? Not like anything's going to jump out and grab me..." yet... I shook my head in thought and crossed my arms.

"With my force-field weakening we don't know what creatures could have already slipped in! Be more careful next time and don't leave the village without an escort--wait don't leave the village at all! If you leave I'll have no choice but to watch you day and night..." Akira stormed out in a huff and passed June.

"Where exactly did you go anyways?" June asked.

I shrugged again with a frown. "Nowhere, just exploring..."

The raised eyebrow June gave me told me she didn't believe me, but let it go anyways. She walked out without another word, probably to go clean up the mess I'd made earlier in the kitchen. I went to lie back on my bed and wait for Akira to cool down before she would come and heal my eye for a bit.

When she finally stepped in, it was nearly midnight, according to the position of the moon. She set the herbs and bowl on the desk and began to prepare her work station. I watched carefully when she motioned for me to lay my head on her lap. She dragged the small bedside table next to her chair and put the bowl on it. I laid my head down and closed my eye as she began to unwrap the gauze and imply the herbs.

I sucked in air between my teeth when it started to sting. Akira seemed to slow her movements and 'shh' me silently before her lips moved in another language and turned into a song. I clutched my jaw keeping quiet when the pain started to dull and I could focus on what Akira was singing. She hadn't sung last time so I never realized what a wonderful voice she had, maybe even better then.... Val...

She continued to sing and heal me until she was finally finished. She grabbed the new gauze and wrapped up my eye again and leaned back. I sighed and gave her a small smile.

"You have a wonderful voice." I whispered.

She looked slightly surprised but it quickly disappeared as she stood up and started cleaning up. My hand brushed the gauze before falling to my side again.

"Time for you to sleep. I'll be waking you early in the morning." She said as she started for the door.

"Is something going on tomorrow?" I asked sitting up.

"Yeah, the town’s annual Festival of Light is coming up in 5 days. We must all prepare. Good night, Link."

And with that she was gone.

I knew I had to get up early. I didn't know I had to get up at such an ungodly hour! Hmm... Shows how much I’ve gotten out of shape. Need to start working out again...

"The suns not even up." I groaned covering my face up with my blanket. I heard Akira sigh.

"I'll flip the bed if I must Link. I'll say it one last time. Get up." Akira threatened. I groaned, my anger peeking up as I sat up jerking the sheets off me before standing up.

"Happy?" I almost snapped. Akira nodded with a smile. My anger was quickly diminishing as I slipped on my shirt. "So what are we doing anyways?"

"Helping the town with the goods, the meal for the festival will be a large one. Come, we must be at it before the sun rises." She left.

I sighed and followed suit.

The next five days I spent working and helping with the set-up for the festival. I almost never saw June but I knew she was around helping as well.

The evening of the festival I couldn't sit still. I kept walking around, glancing outside, looking towards the door, waiting for Akira. Today was the last day.

The door opened and I looked to Akira hopefully. She smiled and nodded. I began to take the gauze off. "Wait—" She said and I paused. "Let me help you..." I wasn't patient but I let her take it off anyways. I opened it and blinked a couple times to get rid of the slight blurriness. Something felt wrong...

"How is it? Is anything impaired?" Akira asked.

I blinked some more before shaking my head. It's got to be just it having not been used for ages. My fingers brushed the scars before I sighed.

"Those scars won't go away, I'm afraid." Akira murmured softly.

"I know..." I smiled to her and quickly gave her a hug. "Thank you for giving this back to me."

Akira stiffened in my hug before ever hugging me back. "I did what I could." She began to pull back and I let go. "Alright, I must be off, there's some last minute preparations before the festival can finally begin. Find June when you can and tell her to meet me in the plaza."

When she was gone, I realized full and well I finally had my eye back. I whooped in joy and ran out of the room to find June. When I did I swung her around, her shock and amazement to see my eye.

"I know right?! I can finally see out of it again!"

"Its... red..." Her eyes were wide. "Your eye, it's different from your left one... It's red."

I paused in my jumping and starred at her. "What? Impossible! You must be seeing things." I laughed pushing her shoulder lightly.

She frowned, her eyebrows furrowing as she grabbed my hand and pulled me into her room and to her dresser. She grabbed a small hand mirror from it and pushed it into my hands. I looked at her before lifting it to my face and to my complete surprise, she was right.

“That... that’s weird...” I starred at my eye in complete shock...
