"Wait, Gato. you mean of Gato Transport©?" He asked, surprised. "But he's a business leader, everyone knows who he is." We all leaned forward a bit, listening intently.

"Gato is a very powerful tycoon from a famous company, that's true. But under that, with the same ruthless methods he uses to take over businesses and nations, he sells drugs and contraband of the sort. He works with lowly gangs and ninja. It was a year ago today that Gato first set his sights on teh Land of Waves. He came to our island and used his vast power and wealth to take complete control over our shipping and transport.

"Anyone and everyone who got in his way suddenly...disappeared. In a nation like ours, someone who controls the sea controls everything. Finance, government, our very lives, if he so wished it. But there is one thing he fears, and that's the bridge. When it is complete and connects us to the land, his control will cease. I am the master bridge builder, and I will finish this bridge." He said, looking up finally.

"I get it now." Sakura said. "Since you're in control of the bridge, you're standing in this gangster's way." I nodded.

"That means, those guys we fought in the forest were working for Gato, too." Viatrix looked contemplative, but Naruto looked as if he was barely following any of this. I doubted he was.

"I don't understand something, though." Kakashi said. "If you knew Gato was dangerous and would send ninja to eliminate you, why did you hide that from us?" He asked. Tazuna lowered his head again.

"Because the Land of Waves is a dainty, impoverse nation. Even our noblemen and women have little to no money. The people who are risking their lives to help me build this bridge can't pay for an A or B-ranked mission. If you end this mission when you drop me off, there cannot be a bridge. Gato will stop us at all costs, and the Land of Waves will never be free of his control." Tazuna said solemnly. Then he got a mischevious look in his eye. "But, you don't have to feel bad.

"Of course, my innocent little grandson will be devesatated after they assassinate me. Oh, and my daughter will condem the ninja of the Leaf, denouncing and blaming you for abandoning her father and live her life in sorrow." He said, as if this should convince us to keep the mission going. Of course, now we had to. Sigh, this old man was more clever than he looked. "But it's not your fault, just forget it." He said, but not with finality. He said it more like he was just waiting for us to say yes.

"Well, it seems we have no choice, so we'll carry on the mission." Kakashi Sensei said after a moment. Tazuna put on a mock face of gratitude.

"Ohhhh, I'm very grateful." He said, trying and failing to hide a cheater's smile. I humpfed and turned away, just in time to see us go under a concrete tunnel. Up ahead, I could see the light from the other side.
