This list is not meant to offend anyone. It is merely, in a reader's point of view, the list of cliches we see in stories. The most extravagant list is the Harry Potter list [obviously. It's just me.]
High-School Drama
- Girl in an all-boy's boarding school
- Popular girl and skater boy
- Pretty girl but is either unpopular or popular and doesn't think she's pretty but she is
- Hottest/most popular guy in school likes me
- Best friend likes me
- Engaged, stuck in the same house, etc.. with the most popular boy/ hottest
- Jackass likes me
- Unpopular girl and popular guy
And, as much as I hate these..
- Popular guy rape
- Anorexic concern
Harry Potter
- Girl has special powers
- Parents killed by Voldemort
- She was oh-so-conveniently away but she saw everything, so it haunts her
- Perfect looks
- Can sing
- Can dance
- Is friends with everyone
- Malfoy wants her/ Harry wants her [depending on what ship]
- Best friend, who doesn't seem to get the guys as much
- Voldemort wants her
- Completely AU, Dumbledore is not dead and there are no Horcruxes
- They break up because she keeps secrets
- She plays Chaser
- Best friends with Hermione
- Excels in all of her classes despite never seeing magic
- Muggleborn or Pureblood
- The girl does not mourn over her parents
- She's tomboyish, temperamental, and testy, but she's perfect in every way.
- Her name is something like "Rylie", "Kylie", "Katrina", and "Alexandria"
- Voldemort dies
- Depending on ship, she goes to Slytherin or Gryffindor.
- But she is always brave.
- For DM, she gets her Dark Mark or avoids it.
- Voldemort wants her more than Harry

- Castle
- Kidnapped in an alley
- Does not want to suck her blood
- Girl runs away, gets hurt, and vampire saves her
- There's a ball
- Dracula likes her
- Afraid of only Christian items [Cross, holy water]
- Girl is always pretty
- Defenseless girl
Band Cliches
- Pretty girl.. obviously
- Meet at some concert
- Other band member's brother
- Said band member is overprotective
- Band member and girl are best friends
- She can sing. Or something.
- He serenades to her.
- He plays guitar.
- His name is Pete Wentz, Frank Iero, or Gerard Way.
- Frank and Gerard fight over her.
Mind, there's a lot more categories, and a lot more cliches. But these are the only ones I know.

There are three Mary Sues, despite what people think. I've taken the liberty of naming them Alexandria, Katrina, and Rylie. Names that look quite familiar, ah..
Alexandria- The perfect, everybody-loves-me girl. Everyone thinks of her as the main Mary Sue, because she is the most known. She's like Rylie in a sense, except she's more showy of her Mary Sue qualities. Normally she's a side-character, which is fine, mind, but sometimes people think they can make her into their own as a main character. How wrong they are.
Katrina- The gothic, dark past girl. She's normally a fluent curser, cuts, smokes, but never cries. Normally, this makes the person get really concerned over her, making them fall head over heels. This is a Mary Sue for an angst story, and normally she can find time to be sarcastic and laughing, although she claims it's because she can hold her emotions in- until she gets that cigar in, of course.
Rylie- This is definitely the most used, and the most ignored of the Mary Sues. Most people wouldn't think of her as a Mary Sue, but believe me, she's the worst. She normally has a power, is modest, is a tomboy, has long flowing hair, is perfect, is special, and in Harry Potter stories, this is the one who's more important than Harry- his "equal superior", if you will. Actually, in High School Drama, this is the 'popular but doesn't want it' and the 'I'm married to...' girl.
I'm going to write an excerpt of each girl.
Alexandria- "Ladies and gentleman, we have a new guest to this school. Her name is Alexandria- come up, Alex!" Everyone turned their eyes to the young girl, who was currently sporting a mini-skirt [as was, miraculously, the new school uniform that she happened to model] and a tiny tube top, just barely covering up her DD-cups. She smiled in a charming way and pranced down the hall, amused at the looks she was receiving and the cat calls she heard.
Katrina- Katrina slammed her door shut angrily, putting a wicked smile on as the door rumbled. She viciously got out her razor and cut her flesh mercilessly, watching as the scarlet blood oozed out of her forearm. Satisfied, she took out her cigar and stuck it in her blood, then got her lighter out and smoked the cigar. The smoke filled her lungs, and she closed her eyes in pleasure and stress. It had been a long day.
Rylie - She ran across the field, feeling the cold sweat line her forehead. After a while, her huge group of friends- ones the had met today, in fact- met with her to gossip about some of the other peers. She noticed guys were watching her, and although she wanted to get the attention off of her, she didn't want to get in trouble. So, for the rest of the day, she excelled in everything she did and managed to avoid the guys.
Which one's the worst?
Quite an interesting topic, I'd think. What kinds of fanfiction can you write about?? Well, here's a list.

Short list, yes.. but you can definitely combine to make, say, an angsty action story.. but a fluffy angsty normally doesn't work. Heck, it never works. Don't even try.
