Undoubtedly, Sasuke was a pro.
He had mastered his family taijutsu skills, performed a high leverl ninjutsu at age eight, came from one of the most prodigious clans in Konoha, and was proclaimed an outstanding prodigy in his Genin and Chunnin Exams. And the fact of possessing the Sharingan Eye helped a lot with most of that.
But no amount of profession could help him overcome the next obstacle to head his way...
As usual, training had finished at 4:30 p.m. and Sasuke was walking back to the Uchiha compound the same way he always did. He walked by the gates of Konoha, thourgh the shopping district, and past a few compounds of other clans. Things were going flawlessly, no Sakura or Ino or any other fan girl clinging to his back, chattering endlessly, no Naruto-dobe yelling at him, the day had gone flawlessly so far.
"Excuse me."
A feminine voice broke off his train of thoughts. Cursing his luck, he turned around expecting to see some annoying fan girl.
Instead he was surprised to see a girl he had never seen before. Her hairstyle was like Tenten's, except a few bangs strayed across her forehead and was blonde. She wore a very elegant outfit, which at the same time could be easy to wear for training. She wore a polite smile on her face as she bowed respectfully.
"Do you know where I might find a young lady named Tenten? She was supposed to meet me here a while ago but I haven't seen her," Sasuke snapped out of the daze and changed back to his cold attire.
"Hn. Check the training fields to the west of the village. Her team trains there." he said gruffly, shoving his hands into his pockets.
"Thank you," she said with the same cool tone and walked off calmly.
He couldn't forget about her for long.
He ended up seeing her at the restaurant he would eat at that night.
He had decided to eat out, considering his good luck for that day. When he took his seat he noticed team four sitting at a table not far away, with the young girl sitting by them.
"Fascinating! We have to spar later!" Lee said enthusiastically.
"How long were you living in that dojo anyway?" Tenten asked.
"About three months. Kuro-sensei wanted me to stay longer but I really needed to drop by here before I headed out again," she replied.
"And it took you only three months to master that kung-fu?" Neji asked interested.
"Yes, I had really gotten into it and I had a good time training with the others. Rui-chong seemed to fit with me better than any other taijutsu I tried."
"So June, how long are you staying here?"
"Three weekes tops, but after that I'm heading south to the Wind Country to meet up with some other relatives and get some more training done."
'June eh?' Sasuke thought. Lee noticed him looking over at their table, and before Sasuke could look away...
"Hey! Sasuke-san!" Lee shouted over the din of the restaurant. Sasuke cursed Lee inwardly.
"Friend of yours Tenten?" June asked.
"Eh, sorta. We were all in the same Chunnin Exam." Tenten explained.
"Uchiha eh? Didn't know you ate here," Neji scoffed, smirking. Sasuke returned the look.
"None of your business Hyuuga."
June turned to Tenten.
"Tenten, can I talk with you privately for a moment?" she asked. Tenten nodded and the two girls walked off.
"She's interesting isn't she Uchiha?" Neji inquired.
"What's it to you?"
"Nothing, nothing. She's just very interesting that's all."
"Yeah!" said Lee energetically, "She's mastered over ten kinjutsu skills in two years and mastered a kung fu style just recently! She also graduated two years early in her Ninja Academy with top grades!"
"Hmph, so she's learned a couple of tricks, that doesn't mean a thing," Sasuke scoffed.
"Jealous Uchiha? I wouldn't blame you. She's got a lot of potential, she'd make an excellent rival, if you know what I mean." Neji smirked.
"Whatever. I'm leaving." Sasuke strod away from the sniggering Lee and chuckling Neji.
Sasuke was frustrated. Ten kinjutsu in two years? That was a feat he'd never been able to accomplish. And the taijutsu style, no matter how simple or weak a taijutsu style is, two months was an extrodinary time to have mastered a style, which normally took over a year for normal shinobi to accomplish.
"He's killed them?"
Sasuke heard a voice from an empty alley. Not wanting to be caught, he lowered his chakra level and hid himself on a rooftop.
"Yes, apparently he's figured out what we've learned already,"
Sasuke recognized the voice, it was June, and she was talking to Tenten.
"So what are you going to do? He doesn't back down so easily, and he's got that kekkai genkai to boot,"
"I'll just have to keep up the training regime and stay alive. You don't need to worry about me or yourself, you're not involved with the project anyways,"
"But you're still in danger! Even without him hunting down members, your enterprise is at stake!"
"Tenten," June whispered in a low voice, "It's not my enterprise."
"Then why'd you join in the first place?"
"I'd tell you, but apparently we have a little bird coming in on our conversation." June glared up at Sasuke. Knowing he was found, he jumped down from the roof.
"How'd you know where I was?" he asked, returned the glare.
"You hid your chakra magnificently," she replied smirking. "But your position gives you away."
"Why were you eavesdropping on us?" Tenten demanded.
"You were talking loudly," he replied irritably, "I was just passing through,"
"Don't worry too much about it Tenten," June assured, "Allthough our target would probably interest him, it's not really any of his business, our reasons are completely different. He couldn't beat him anyway," she smirked slyly. Sasuke looked at her furious. Who was the he she was talking about?
"Who? Who would peak my interest so much?" he growled crossing his arms.
"Take a wild guess," she replied walking off with Tenten, leaving Sasuke to fume. He stood there, embarrassed and angry at June.
"Take a wild guess"
One word came into his head, further infuriating him.
Itachi.
Sasuke waited the next day for June to be by herself so he could confront her about Itachi. Unfortunately, Sakura clung to him to no end and it took him a while to shake her off his trail. He finally spotted her going into a training field by herself. He followed her into the woods, making sure she didn't notice his position, or traces of chakra for that matter. He saw her praticing taijutsu on several dummies. She stopped in mid-kick, and turned to Sasuke's direction, smiling that same polite smile.
"Please come out now Sasuke-san,"
He juped down from the perch he had stood on, and faced June dead-on.
"You didn't even try to hide yourself?"
"I don't have to, I think you know what I want to talk about," June smiled knowingly and spun the other, smiling up at the sky.
"I don't think I really feel like talking," she said slyly. Sasuke growled. Why was she so damn hard to read? One minute she's polite and proper, the next she's acting like a cat with a mouse wriggling in its claws.
"You act like you're afraid of telling me something."
"Hn, I'm not afraid of anything." he said arrogantly. June just laughed.
"Oh ho! Not such a little mouse are we no?"
"Don't be stupid. I can't afford idiocy unlike some people,"
"What a terror! Stupidity isn't exactly my cup of ginsing either!"
Sasuke was getting really irritated. Who does this woman think she is?
"Well I guess I let you in,"
Okay never mind that last comment.
"What for?" asked Sasuke suspiciously.
"You interest me. I'd like to see how far you go without driving our members absolutely bonkers."
Sasuke smirked. Drive them bonkers huh?
Meeting begins at eight. We'll meet by the waterfall and discuss there."
At eight o'clock sharp, the moon had just begun to ascend into the night sky. Sasuke was cloaked, as ordered by June, with the other members talking quietly.
"Kisame? You sure?"
"Of course. He may have more chakra than the rest of us, but he depends on that and his sword too much. The Oboro will handle it nicely,"
"What exactly is the Oboro?" asked Sasuke.
"The Oboro is my special sword," said June, " It slices through an jutsu with ease and had a repelling force against massive amounts of chakra. Since Kisame's sword is filled to the brim with chakra, all I really have to do is parry his blows."
Sasuke couldn't help but wonder where she could have gotten it. After another hour or so, the meeting was adjourned and the members sprinted off into the night. June and Sasuke walked the streets of Konoha alone.
"It's amazing how effortless some villains are able to gather in small groups. If the troupe of villains got any larger, we'd need more members," June chatted politely. Sasuke just nodded. Her catlike attitude was something he'd finally gotten the hang of.
"Your brother Itachi, how strong was he the last time you encountered him?" The question sliced at Sasuke like a knife. She had a lot of nerve asking that. But he couldnt help but answer.
"Unbelieveably strong. I was sbarely able to live through what he did." June nodded.
"My own siblings are much to idle and sweet to think of murder and crime. Ignorance is bliss I suppose. But I've always strived to be the best for my own legacy."
Sasuke nodded at the answer. That was understandable. He too was like that.
"But I worried so much about that I lost a lot of respect in my family. They were all so simple, they'd rather attend parties or get new clothes than practice jutsus and train." She glared down at the ground angrily as she clenched her hands.
"I'll never be like them,"
Sasuke looked, sighing slightly. His father, may he rest in peace, was often harsh and demanding. He only wished to have said goodbye to him before he died...
"Is that what drives you?" asked Sasuke seriously, "To not be like them? To really leave a legacy?"
"Yes." replied June, looking up with a strong expression on her face, "I want to be known by everyone. I want to be recognized by everyone who hears my name as the pro of jutsu and fighting.I don't want to fall into the lure of wealth and riches so I an be forgotten."
"Don't worry about it"
June looked at him weirdly. What did he mean?
"As strong as you are now, you'll never need to worry. You'll be recognized as a hero leader of a just organization that only wants to destroy an evil one. You don't need to become sothing you already are," June looked at him in awe, before turning to face the road ahead.
"And what am I?"
Sasuke looked forward, a smirk also decorating his features.
"A pro."
Myths are told as storied. But legacies are told as memories.
