"KC? Earth to KC," my friend Darcy said, waving her hand in front of my face.
I was sitting at a table in the food court of the mall with my two best girl friends, Darcy and Erin. It was summertime, and we decided to take a girls day and go to the mall, to hang out and do some shopping.
"I'm sorry, I must have spaced out," I said, snapping out of the trance I was just in.
"Again," Darcy added. "You've been spacing out all day, Kendra Camille."
I scoffed as she used my first and middle names. Most people go by their first names, but Kendra? I wasn't too fond of the name. With my middle name being Camille, I just took the beginning letters, KC. I thought it sounded cool and fit my personality more than Kendra.
"She's probably thinking about Paul," Erin giggled as she sipped her Jamba Juice smoothie.
"Oh," Darcy cooed.
I rolled my eyes. I knew exactly what they were going to say and how they were going to say it. They've done this probably hundreds of times and it never seems to get old or lose its funniness to them.
"Paul Koehler," they both said at the same time in that classic 'head-over-heels' tone girls would get in those old movies as they put a hand over their hearts.
"How many times do I have to tell you two? Paul and I are just friends."
"I'm sure," Darcy mumbled.
I swear, it's impossible to win with these two.
"When are the boys getting back anyway?" Erin asked.
"Sometime next week," I responded quickly.
Erin and Darcy both laughed at how quickly I replied.
"Shane is my brother and I couldn't even tell you that," Darcy laughed.
"Are you sure you don't like him?" Erin asked, raising an eyebrow at me.
"Positive. He's just my best friend."
Okay. A little oral history on the infamous Mr. Paul Koehler everybody thinks I'm so in love with.
1. He's the drummer in a band you may or may not have heard of. Silverstein, anybody?
2. I met him through Darcy's brother Shane, who is the lead singer/screamer of Silverstein, when they first started playing.
3. He's become one of my very best friends in the few years that I have known him.
4. He's on tour constantly but still makes time to see me every time he can.
5.
The only real reason I keep it a secret is that I know it could never work. We both have hectic schedules and with him being gone on tour so much, I don't want to set myself up for anymore disappointment.
I will promise myself I won't care
Distracting myself from your stare
And I've seen this mistake once before
With your games I will never fall for
I've hung up my guns
I won't kill again.
I won't forget you (I won't forget you)
I'm not gonna let you win (I'm not gonna...)
But I'm tired of lying
Tired of fighting you
And it's not gonna change.
You ask for my heart
You know that I'm down
But not the way you lie to me
You tear it all apart and beg for me to stay
I've sailed off to sea (sailed off to sea)
I'm not coming back.
I won't forget you (I won't forget you)
I'm not gonna let you win (I'm not gonna...)
But I'm tired of lying
Tired of fighting you
And it's not gonna change.
Counting down
Make that sounds
And you know it makes no sense
Counting down
Till you mess around
And I know you can't ever change
When I'm trembling
Thrown overboard
And I'm ready to relive the past
Counting down
Make that sounds
Break the silence.
Pretend it's not forever
I'll pull myself together
I'll say that I'll forget her
I'll breathe
And I'll say she never hurt me
And look at it as learning
And laugh about the good and the bad
Because I won't live forever
We don't belong together
I know I'll feel better
One day when I can make it through.
I won't forget you (I won't forget you)
I'm not gonna let you win (I'm not gonna...)
But I'm tired of lying
Tired of fighting you
And it's not gonna change.
I won't forget you (I won't forget you)
I'm not gonna let you win (I'm not gonna...)
But I'm tired of lying
Tired of fighting you
And it's not gonna change.
