Rachelle Davenport
"Happy birthday dear Rachelle, happy birthday to you!"
A flicker of candles and a dimming light surrounds my line of vision. Giggling happily, I stick my tongue out for the camera stuffed in my face.
A big piece of cake is soon shoved in my tanned face, smearing the blue icing all over me. Grinning madly, I turn to my friend Eli, cramming my share down his pants.
"Ah! It feels so out of place!"
"Eh! Blue and creamy instead of white!" Danny slaps his knee.
All of my friends at my fourteenth birthday start laughing insanely. The blonde haired, green eyed boy I've come to know as Eli was doing some odd type of dance, trying to fish all the creamy cake out of his trousers.
"Eli! S-sit down!" Sam finally let's her chuckling erupt into a roar of laughter, falling off her chair and holding her sides.
"Oh yeah baby! Work it!" The cameraman, his well-known piece of technology glued to his hand like always, dramatically circles the dancing fool.
"Nic! Get that damn thing out of my face!"
"Ouch, vulgar!" Our crazy companion, Danny pulls his hair and bangs his forehead against the green picnic table.
"Dude, Danny, no more pain," Sam, my all-time best friend through and through, gently shakes her head.
Today was my special day. The day I, Rachelle Davenport hit my fourteenth birthday. Instead of the huge one everyone else had at school, I only asked for a birthday with my five friends alone and that's it.
My odd grouping of what I'd call friends weren't like the normal bunch you would see hanging around together, all wearing the same type of attire. No, we were different, but didn't care what anyone thought of us.
Nicolai Vasser, Nic, a techno-geek, as he called himself, never went anywhere without his short brunette head of hair in soft spikes and a camera strapped to his hand. His blue eyes were always curved and smiling, the best feature about him.
Elijah Conner, Eli, was a football player, quarterback no less. His hair was a dirty blonde color, eyes always mischievous and welcoming. Out of us all, he was the best at playing pranks and wasn't afraid to do anything. It still astounded me how he had gone completely away from his team just to hang out with us, even if he still does befriend his field company.
Daniel Lucius, Danny, was the ideal bad boy. He had shaggy black hair with platinum blonde streaks zig-zagging through his locks. Underneath his long bangs, were his clear blue eyes. Either he was skateboarding or he was reading a book. It may sound odd, but yes, this boy was not only a skater, but was the smartest person I'd ever met. He may do stupid stunts, but when in the classroom he's completely serious. All A's all the time without studying.
My best friend ever, Sam Emerson. She's a really sweet girl, and taller than any of us. Her hair never stayed the same color, but currently it was a ruby black color with red streaks in it. Her eyes, that was the easiest thing to remember about her. They were a brown, hazel, but had blue running through them, completely natural. She loved to hang out with her friends, our friends.
Then there was me. I was an average girl, well on the most part. I had long straight black hair with light green eyes, my skin a light peachy color with a few freckles. I loved to just chill with the four I named, play video games, or take a special type of swordplay, which in a sense is really dancing with swords. Fencing, Karate, and Swordplay were my specialties, I don't know why, but I loved them.
"Come on! Open the gifts already!" Nic whines pathetically.
I laugh. "Settle down Nic. Okay, I'll open yours last for that!"
"You are so evil," he pouts, turning his cam onto me.
"Here! Mine first," demands Eli, shoving a wrapped box in my hands.
I open it to see the new Shinedown CD, along with a Naruto DVD Boxset. "Thank you so much Eli! Anime and good music!"
"I hate 'em, you love 'em," he sticks his tongue out.
"If you don't open mine next I'll scream," Danny thrusts his into my hands.
I grin, taking the present Sam was holding. "I'll open this first!"
Just like he said, he begins screaming, as loud as he possibly can. "Okay! Please just shut up!"
"Okay," he smiles childishly, handing me the neatly wrapped package. Leave it to Danny to make it perfect.
"Let's see," I unwrap it. A charm bracelet shines brightly, little swords hanging off the silver trinket. It was beautiful, and looked pricey. "Oh my gosh! Danny! Thank you!"
I give him a tight hug, the same I gave to Eli. With a short laugh, I take the present Sam was forcing in my face.
"It's not much..."
I see inside a six-piece set, all perfectly carved silver rings, a really expensive set actually. The words inscribed across the various pieces of metal read 'In Love And Death, Friends Forever'. It really brought a tear to my eye. On the inside there was other writing, which really made me want to start crying. 'For Rachelle, the Queen of Crazy. She's the best friend anyone could ever have'.
"There's six rings...but there's only five of us," I state quietly. "But it's beautiful, I love them. How the hell did you afford this?"
"My mom helped me out a little bit," she smiles. "I want you to give the extra to someone really special, someone you'll always remember. Okay? Oh, and hurry and dish out the rings!"
I laugh at her impatience. That was Sam for you. I put the rings on all my friends' fingers, smiling warmly at them. The pouting Nic throws his gift, my nimble fingers idly catching it.
Unlacing the mountains of ribbon, I tear through the paper. "Ha! Zelda! One I don't have! Woo!" I shout, hugging it to me. "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Oh! Sounds fun!"
"You and your games!" Sam shakes her head.
"I LOVE YOU!" Danny jumps up, wrapping his arms around me and knocking me out of my chair. We sit on the ground laughing. "MY VIDEO GAME BUDDY!"
"Honey, here's my gift to you," my father walks out. He was holding a long box, small in width but really stretched in length.
"What could this be?" Everyone eagerly waits as I greedily tear into the wrapping. I gasp in complete shock, this was the best gift hands down, but I wouldn't say that out loud.
"Wow, this is better than our gifts!" Eli sulks. I laugh.
"Dad... how'd you afford this?"
"I've been saving," he smiles sweetly. I kiss his cheek.
He had given me a three foot sword, the steel double folded to make it that much stronger. The black hilt had golden designs laid into it, just like the black sheathe, both really hard to put into words that matched it. The blade in general was pure black down the middle on each side, intricate designs swirling through the black.
"This last gift is from your grandparents," Eddie, my father, hands me a large flat package.
Tearing into it vigorously, I see a new outfit. It was for my competitions, where I went off to my swordplay one's. The boots were cloth, lace up the sides all black clear up to my upper thighs, the heels perfect. A black halter dress was richly decorated, and had a hole that showed a lot of cleavage, but that's how I usually wore my competition outfits. A black cloak could go over it, but it was only when I walked in the room and such so I wouldn't be as cold in the chilly arena's.

Sword and Outfit
"Her grandparents sure have good tastes!" Eli mumbles.
"You can say that again," Sam nods her head.
"Her grandparents sure have-"
"I DIDN'T MEAN THAT SERIOUSLY!"
"It's already twelve. It's time we went home," Danny stretches. "Come on people! Let's go! Happy birthday again Rachelle!" He kisses my cheek, followed by Eli and Nic. I hear his mom honking out front, along with another car horn.
"I'll show you the movie tomorrow when I doctor it!" Nic winks, leaving with the other two. Sam's mother was waiting for her to get in the car too, so she takes off.
"Thank you so much Daddy," I smile kindly, kissing his cheek. "The sword is beautiful. I'll never let it get messed up."
"Just remember who bought you that expensive thing when you're fighting, okay?" He nudges me playfully.
"Duh Dad! I'm going to go inside and go to sleep. Night old man," I kid, giving him a hug and lugging all my gifts up the stairs and into my room.
I had a room over the garage. It was supposed to be an attic, since the house didn't have one, but turned out to be my room. Posters littered the walls, along with different types of weaponry, mainly swords and dangers, along with a shelf completely full with huge trophies, ribbons, Karate belts, even a giant check I won.
That was the day, I was so happy. I had been the best at my skill, the art of the sword, in all of the USA. I had only come in fourth in the world competition though.
Setting my stuff in their respectable places. A small smile was plastered on my face, while I changed and such.
I will update when 20 people vote on the poll on the 'UPCOMING STORIES' quiz I have up!
Under the blankets of my twin-sized bed, I reminisce of my lovely birthday. Tomorrow, I'd be spending the day at school, and then come home to watch my Naruto full DVD boxset and kick ass at my favorite game, a Zelda game.
That's the reason I smiled. I loved my life, even if my mother wasn't in it. But memories like those don't need to be remembered, at least not on such a happy day as this.
So into dreamland I ascend. Merrily dreaming of winning the world competition with my new sword, in my beautiful new outfit.
Maybe one day that dream would be a reality. I could only wish.
