She sat there, watching him, as he spoke to the ladies of the palace. Their eyes out battering each other, trying to grab his attention. She did not move towards him nor did he notice that she was watching.
She sat outside on the window ledge. Her black and red cape flapping about her. She was a Princess of Darkness. The greatest fighter and assassin this world has ever known. Though during the day her name was Lady Night, but as soon as the sun went down, she became the Princess, or as the people had named her.
During the night she wore a cloak of red and black and underneath, a red shirt with leather straps crossing over her back, with long pants that covered the boots on her feet. She wore that outfit at that very moment. The robe was as crimson as blood with faint traces of silver markings that protected her from minor magic and from the sight of those that looked at her directly.
She crouched on the window sill and watched the one and only prince of the kingdom. She had saved him countless times as he walked blindly into danger, not hearing the words of caution others spoke to him.
But she had found the reason why he did so, he was trying to catch her and he knew that she would always be there to drag him out of the mess he had created.
She growled softly and laid her ears flat.
No one knew she was there and neither did she want to be discovered. She jumped from the window ledge and into the street below.
She heard a cry from above and knew that she had been spotted.
She jumped from rooftop to rooftop with the agility and skill of a cat. Her starlit hair flowed behind her. Brushing just below her shoulders. Her eyes scanned the area for any where she could hide so that they could pass. She stopped behind a chimney and crouched in its shadow. She watched the men as they ran past down below. Their swords and arrows glittering in the low moon light.
She would be hard to track in the little moon light, even if they could track her.
The call of a bird reached her ears. The like which she had never heard of before. And she saw figures jumping over the buildings just as she had. Her eyes narrowed to try and make them out. They were just like the humans, yet their skin was unnaturally white and had lips as red as the little amount of blood that ran through their veins.
Vampires.
The blood sucking parasites that attached themselves to humans. She protected her kind from them; for they were her people by choice. They had chosen her nearly three years ago when she had first come to this city.
The city of Alimbra. She smiled at the first memory she could ever remember, for the years before that was nothing but darkness and a few kind whispers of someone who had been there.
Her brow creased in a frown as she watched the men below chasing the blood suckers. It was them they had seen and not her. She sighed and looked to the eastern sky. It was getting lighter by the minute. She turned on her heel and headed back to the castle that she had watched the prince. She looked forward to the day ahead. Today would be a day where she would be able to get her revenge. The prince would go hunting and she would have to go to protect him.
In the years ahead she would remember for the rest of her life, and not just for a rainy day.
