Well, here's part two! :] Enjoy.
And for the record, I'm trying to make every part long. >> So yeah.
Leave a message in my CBox? =D It's waiting on my homepage, and in the results.
"Hey, Lyd!" My mom said as I walked into our house. She was washing dishes and cooking something in a big pot at the same time. Probably pasta.
My mom is a housewife.
"Hello," I said, putting my bag on the floor.
"How was school?"
"Fine."
"Did you see Hayden?"
I felt my veins freeze and turn into ice. I didn't want to think about him.
CHANGE THE SUBJECT. NOW.
The stove is on fire.
Good excuse! I'll use th-
No, really. It's on fire.
Suuuure, it is.
IT'S FLAMING!
I glanced at the stove. "Mom, the stove is on fire!"
My mother squeaked, got the fire extinguisher, and put it out.
Smooth.
"So, anyway," she began again, now washing a plate. "Did you--"
"--Have a test in Math?" I finished for her. "No, of course not!... Bye!" With that, I bolted down into the basement, where my room was.
Yes, I live in the basement.
Watch the mighty beast make it's way into it's hole, crawling oh so slowly-
I tripped and fell down the last five stairs.
"GODDAMN-"
The beast roars in anger after her fall, clenching her pudgy fists--
Grr....
Think happy thoughts!
NO!
THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS, GODDANGIT.
Fine.
I eventually dragged myself onto the actual floor and got up, heading to my CD player.
Panic! At the Disco time again!?
No! The Used!
I dropped a CD into my CD player, put it on random, and plopped on my bed as a pushed 'Play'.
"The cup is not half empty as pessimists saaaay. As far as he's sees, nothing's left in the cup. A whole cup full of noooothing for him to indulge. Since the voice of ambition has long since been shuuuut uuuup. A siiiinger, a wriiiter, he's not dreaming now of going nowhere. He gave heeeeed to nothiiiing, and aaall that he was.... Is just a tragedy."
I snorted. Story of my life.
My cellphone started to vibrate against my thigh (it was in my pocket). And Linkin Park's Crawling started playing.
"I wanna heeeeal, I wanna feeeel, what I thought was never reeeal. Somewhere I belooooong."
(A/N: Yes, I know that's not how the song goes. -.- But that's how the Cingular ringtone is. No joke. I don't have it, by the way. I just looked it up.)
I grabbed my phone, flipped it open, and read the name, "<3 Hayden-Honey <3" slowly.
Note to Self: Change Hayden's name on my phone to "Jackass" by all means.
"So he voyages in ciiircles, succeeds getting nooooowheeeere. And submits to the suuuubstance that first go him there, there, theeeeeeere!"
I didn't answer, of course. I just shoved it back into my pocket.
The cellphone started singing again, after a few minutes, signaling I had a new message. Obviously from Hayden.
I rolled over as my CD player changed to a new song, "Blue and Yellow". I think it knows what's going on.
You idiot. It just randomly plays songs.
Whatever.
I closed my eyes and tried to sleep. I was so close to drifting off when the house phone rang.
Goddammit, Hayden!!
I picked up the receiver and said, "fuck off!"
"Ex-boyfriend, again?" The voice asked, chuckling.
It was Seth.
"Oh, hi," I said causually.
"I'm curious," Seth paused. "Who's this ex-boyfriend of yours?"
"Hayden Brown," I stated, feeling my jaw going numb from saying that jerk's name.
Seth was silent.
Maybe he doesn't know him.
"He's the captain of the Soccer tea-."
"Yeah, I know," he grunted. "That guy is an ass. Be glad you're not with him anymore."
"Of course."
"He used to hit on my girlfriend all the time."
"Oh really?" My throat went dry. Hayden only told me about Steph (my ex-bestfriend). I laid back and stared at the ceiling.
"Yeah. I even threatended to beat the crap out of him."
"That sucks."
"It does. But Nicole--My girlfriend--wouldn't ever cheat on me. It's a fact."
I didn't want to talk about love at the moment. It was depressing.
"That's cool." I muttered.
"Yep."
"So, erm," I swallowed, trying yo change the subject. "How'd you get my number, and why are you calling me?"
Wow. Rude enough?
He laughed. "I have my sources. And I'm bored."
I felt my face twist a bit. "Call your girlfriend. Can't you hang out with her?"
"She has Cheerleading practice."
"Oh, erm.... How about one of your friends?"
"All my friends are on the Football team. And I'm not in the mood to play Football."
"You're picky."
"I know."
"Some girl you just started talking to barely three hours ago?"
Hint. Hint.
"Sounds like fun!"
"Hm."
"Wanna hang out?"
I blinked. And sighed.
Seth heard me.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Why are you talking to me...?"
"I told you. You seem lo-."
"But what if I just don't have friends at school? Maybe I have tons outside of school. So why, really?"
"I don't know," he said seriously.
"Fine, then," I muttered.
"Really, though. Can we hang out? You seem like an interesting person, and I want to get to know you some mor-."
"I don't trust people. I don't trust anyone..." I gripped the phone.
"Lydia, you trusted Hay-."
"I did. And look what happened? In case you didn't know, which you probably didn't, he cheated on me with my bestfriend. They were the two people I loved most in the world. And once again, look what happened."
"I'm sorry, Lydia. I really am... And I promise, if you give me a chance, I'll prove to you that you can trust people. And you can trust me."
"Why do you care so much?" I was getting irritated now. "You're on the Football team. You're the most popular guy in school. You've got a great girlfriend. Can't you just leave me alone?"
"And? My life isn't that great. You don't know anything about me. And no, I'm not going to leave you alone."
"Fine," I hissed. "Bye, Seth."
"Wait! Wha-?"
I hung up.
YOU'RE SO DAMN MEAN!!!! SETH CALL BAAAAAACK!
Shut up!
I cuddled on my bed, closed my eyes again, and fell asleep.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
I groaned.
Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang.
Someone was knocking on the basement door.
"It's open!" I yelled.
It was probably my mom, asking what I wanted for dinner.
"Hey."
My eyes burst open. My mother's voice wasn't that deep.
I sat up and looked at Seth. He was standing on the stairs, staring at me intently.
"What?" I asked.
Go get him!
He shrugged.
"How'd you find my house...?"
He smiled a bit. "I saw your address when I looked up your phone number."
"Oh."
We were both silent.
"Lydia, I'm sorry that I keep talking to you." Seth began. "And I'll leave you alone. But I wanted to let you know that I talked to you because... You attracted my attention. Not in a sexual or stalkerish way, or a--... You know what I mean. But I just wanted to get to know you..."
He wants to hooooold you! He wants to loooooove you! He wants to kiiiiiss you!
Um, no.
"Okay." Was all I said.
"Lydia."
"What?" I looked up and saw he was off the stairs.
"Can you give me at least one chance?"
I stared at him. Yes or no...?
YES!!!
"Sure."
"Chocolate!"
"No! Vanilla!"
"But vanilla is so plain!"
"Which is why it's so good!" I whined.
Seth laughed.
We were fighting over ice cream flavors.
"But it's so..." Seth scrunched his nose. "Bland."
"But you can put fudge on it, and-"
"See! You can just have chocolate, instead!"
I was silent for a moment.
"...Cookie Dough?"
Seth gasped.
"Cookie Dough." He replied, nodding.
Yeah, I know it's weird that now we're suddenly comftorable with each other. But really, it been three hours since I yelled at him.
It was four.
Oh.
Anyway. After I said I would give him a chance, he took me out. Not like, on a date. But just in general. To walk around the city. And since then, we've been fine.
More than fine. Great.
"Ooh! Look!" I said, pointing to a big open area across the street. "The park!"
"So?" Seth replied.
"C'mon!" I dragged him across the street, and sat on a patch of grass.
He just looked at me.
"Sit."
"No."
"Why not?"
"I don't wanna."
"Fine!" I laid down.
"What are you doing?"
"Drugs," I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes. "What does it look like?" I glanced at him.
He smirked. "You're cold."
"Am not."
"You are. You have goosbumps all over your arms."
Meh, he was right. But I was only in a tank top.
You should've brought a jacket, dumbass.
I know.
"Okay, fine. I am cold." I sat up and hugged my knees.
Seth took off his sweatshirt and dropped it in front of me. "Put it on." he demanded.
"But-"
"No."
"But-"
"No."
"But-"
"No 'buts'!" Seth laughed.
"Hmph!" I put his sweatshirt on. It was black, and had "Keane" on it. I didn't notice it before.
"You like Keane?"
"Yeah," Seth nodded. "Good band."
"They are," I confirmed.
Silence.
"Seth." I said.
"Yeah?" He was still standing.
"Aren't you cold?"
He shrugged. "Naw."
"You should be."
"Why?"
"Because it's cold out..."
"Oh well."
I smiled and got up. "What do you wanna do now?"
Seth glanced at his watch. "It's 7:45. And considering how there's school tomorrow, I should bring you home soon."
"My curfew is ten, though." I complained. "We can stay out for a while."
"And do what?"
I shrugged. "Stay here?"
"And?"
"Dunno." I said, starting to walk away from him. He followed me.
"Where are we going, Lydia?" He asked.
"You'll see." I stated.
A few minutes later, we got there. The playground. Right where I went after Hayden admitted he cheated on me.
I smiled and sat on a swing, kicking my feet back and forth.
"Swings suck," Seth claimed.
I gasped. "Nuh uh!"
"They do. I like slides better."
I watched him walk over to the slide. He stood there, looking at it.
"You could lay on the whole thing." I laughed.
"Too bad," Seth said, giving me a smile before climbing onto it and sliding down.
I don't know why, but the site of this made me giggle.
Giggle.
Well somebody likes another somebody.
... No.
I looked away from Seth and continued to swing. I don't know why, but Seth had made me feel better than I have in the past couple weeks. I thought it'd take forever to be happy again. But Seth actually made me smile...
"Lydia! Are you hungry?"
"Take it."
"No."
"Just- Just take it."
"No!" Seth rolled his eyes. "Lydia, I'm not taking your money."
I still tried to shove a twenty at him. "But you paid for everything!"
"So?"
"So, I should pay you back! And I am. And take it!"
I don't want to know what's going on...
Seth and I went out to eat. And he paid. Okay? Okay.
"Lydia, just think of it as a gif-- Don't try to slip it into my pocket."
I glared at him. "Fine!" I said, sticking my tongue out at him childishly while putting the twenty back into my own pocket.
He laughed.
"Hmph!" I turned away from him.
"Don't worry. Next time we go out to eat together, I promise we can go to the most expensive resteraunt in the city, and you can pay."
"Never mind!"
He laughed again.
I looked at him. He was smiling.
"What's so funny?"
"You."
"Thanks."
"So, what are we--"
Seth was cut off by my ringtone.
"I wanna heeeeal, I wanna feeeel, what I thought was never reeeal. Somewhere I belooooong."
I blushed a bit, seeing Seth raise an eyebrow. Hastily, I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and didn't even bother looking at the name before answering.
"Hello?"
"Lydia, listen to me. I love you. I. Love. You. I know I made a mistake, but can't you just forgive me-?"
It was the stupid f-
"Is that Hayden?" Seth asked.
I nodded at him.
"Hayden, leave me the hell alone. I know Stephanie wasn't the only one you cheated on me with. So shut your jaw before I break it. Okay? Okay."
I was about to hang up when Seth grabbed the phone from me.
"Hayden Brown." Seth said grimly.
I heard Hayden say something.
"A friend of Lydia's."
Hayden said something else.
"Yeah, well I suggest you do leave her alone. Or else I'll kick your ass. And quit scamming on girls. No one wants a fag like you." With that, he shut the phone and handed it to me. "Here you go, Lydia."
I stared.
"What?"
"Thanks, Seth."
"Anytime..." His voice trailed off as he checked his watch. "Damn."
"What?"
"It's 9:45."
I bit my lip. We walked into the city. And it took half an hour.
"It's fine. I can run-"
"Lydia, it's Los Angeles. I'm not letting you run home alone."
I grunted. "Fine. But how are we going to get there, then?"
"We can run together!"
I laughed. "Okay."
Five seconds later we were running down the streets, with everyone looking at us weirdly.
How cute.
Shush!!
We got to my house just as it turned ten. We both stopped running and panted like crazy.
"You. You can run really fast." Seth wheezed.
"So can you..." I said, still panting.
He let out a heavy breath. "But I'm supposed to. I'm a quarterback."
"Of course."
More silence.
Say something...!
"Seth..."
"Hm?" He looked at me.
"Thank you." I said, looking back at him.
"For what?"
"For making me feel normal again. I haven't been happy at all since... You know..."
Seth smiled. "You're welcome Lydia. And does this mean we can be friends?"
I nodded. "It does."
He smiled widely. "I'm glad."
I laughed softly, and smiled also.
"Well, goodnight, Lydia," he said, turning around and starting to walk down the street.
"Goodnight Se-... Wait!"
He faced me. "What?"
I took his sweatshirt off as fast as I could and handed it to him. "You almost forgot this."
He chcukled, and took it. "Thanks."
"Now goodnight."
"Goodnight."
I watched him walk away before going inside my house, and into my bedroom.
What band now?
I was thinking I could play some Keane.
Awwww!!! That's so romantic! You two are falling in love!
No. We're friends.![]()
