"Stop pushing me mummy"
"Then hurry up and get through the door. Do you want to be late for your first day of school? Dare I ask?"
"Oh ha, ha." A tiny girl replied sarcastically as her mum firmly pressed her hands against her daughters lower back edging her through the doorway.
"Come on Aly bear, you cant be late. The train waits for no one"
"So what you're saying Dad, is if I keep this up I wont have to go to that hell-hole?" She asked her father scratching her thigh and yawning. Mornings we're her idea of fun.
"Aaliyah Adams!" Her mother reacted instantly and her eyes snapped wide open from their dazed slits "I did not raise you to use such language."
"Well I told you those outings with dad would do me no good" She said smiling cheekily at her father who was shaking his head knowingly with a smirk on his face.
"Christian Adams! You did not use such a word in front of your Ten year old daughter?"
"Why I never." He replied mock shocked "Kani, I thought you'd know me better by now"
"He also used, bloody, fricking, and shi..." The young girl was cut off here when her father jumped to her side, wrapped his hand over her mouth and smiled back to his wife.
"Shes lying dear. That was Evelyn next door who taught her that tardy language I assure you" His wife just huffed up a bit before lugging a large black trunk into the kitchen where the girl was watching with a smile as her father leant down towards her "are you trying to get me killed? Its not nice living without a father I can tell you that from experience" he whispered and she giggled.
This tiny girl was named Aaliyah Lydia Adams. She was ten, but soon to be eleven, years of age and the tiniest thing to stand on two legs. She was the only child of Kanika and Christian Adams and lived in a quaint little town house in the suburbs of Australia. Her hair was a matted mess of amber blonde curls and eyes of the deepest ocean blue which neither her mother nor father had. She inherited that feature from her grandmother on her fathers side. Aaliyah's skin was almost slickly pale and was beginning to sport a few noticeable spots and she was nothing more then bones and a livid smile.
Aaliyah's parents made her eat constantly to try and beef the poor girl up but no matter how much she ate she just couldn't put on any weight, which made her mother go into fits of worry, as she did with everything these days. She was revealing a large bump now and Aaliyah couldn't wait till her brand new baby sister was born. She didnt want to go away to some far off boarding school. She wanted to stay home with her mum and dad and her cat Mitzy. But her parents were forcing her, even if Mitzy was going.
She'd never reacted much with other kids so was scared out of her mind. The only other person remotely her age that she knew was her next-door neighbour Evelyn Grey. She was two years younger than Aaliyah and Aaliyah wasn't allowed to hang around her much. This was mainly caused by the fact that she was a muggle born. Aaliyah on the other hand was not and her mother was furious when she had to modify the tiny girls memory when Aaliyah brought her over one day to show her the new cauldron set and the potion she was brewing.
Kanika, her mother, came from a long line of pure blood witches all the way from Egypt. She was brought up smartly and prim and proper as all hell. Aaliyah loathed the fact that even though Kani knew how agonising it was to do all the things she taught Aaliyah to do in order to be a "proper lady" that she still managed to try her hardest to turn Aaliyah into the perfect little girl.
Aaliyah's father on the other hand was a muggle born but an excellent wizard. Aaliyah was most definitely daddy's little girl when it came right down to it. She adored her mother but whenever Kani said 'not today' Aaliyah knew she could get muster a 'yes' from her father. Christian's family was originally from Holland, but they moved to Australia two generations ago. Kanika had three sisters, two older and one younger, and four brothers, three older and one younger, that all lived over in Egypt but Aaliyah's dad, like her, was an only child. Meaning the only other family she had on his side was her Oma (Dutch for grandmother), and she took any opportunity to spoil Aaliyah rotten as she lived close by and was extremely wealthy.
Aaliyah had cousins and second cousins and third cousins by the bucket load on her mums side but she hardly ever saw them. Kani had informed Aaliyah a few months ago that, Misha, the only cousin Aaliyah's age and that she ever talked to, would be going to Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry just like she was.
Kanika and Christian met at Hogwarts and they insisted on telling Aaliyah how wonderful it was. How wonderful can going away to some ruddy old castle and not seeing your family for months on end be? I dont want to go! I want to stay here and be home schooled. Why can't they just let me be home schooled? Aaliyah thought to herself trying to blink away the tears welling in her eyes.
"I don't want to go!" She ended up yelled at her parents. Kani turned away from the breakfast she was making and Christian looked up from the newspaper he was currently occupying at the kitchen table.
"Come here Aly bear" Christian patted his knee and his sombre daughter walked over to him wiping her unusually blue eyes. Kani waddled over to them and began calmly curling Aaliyah's hair round her fingers as Christian rubbed her back in such a fatherly way.
"I dont want to go" she whispered again threw silent sobs "what if I dont make any friends?"
"You? Not make friends? Impossible. Everyone is going to fall in love with you Aly bear" her father reassured her and pulled his tiny daughter into his chest rocking her slightly. Aaliyah was a very small child and not nearly tall enough for her age. She was still so tiny that she fit on her fathers lap almost as well as an eight year old even though she was close to eleven.
"Darling I know it seems scary and daunting but you have to go. Not because we dont want you here but because Hogwarts is the best school around and we want you to grow up to be the best that you can be" her mother said, difficulty kneeling down and placing a hand on her own back to steady herself and ease the pain she'd now become quite accustom to.
"I want to stay here mummy. I want to see my sister when she's born. I dont want to go all the way to England to stay in some haunted castle with a bunch of people I dont even know" Aaliyah looked up from Christian's arms and down to her mums belly.
"Aly, dear, did you think you wouldn't see the baby when its born?" Kani smiled caringly at her daughters frightened expression "is that why you're so upset?"
"Part of the reason" Aaliyah squeaked.
"Oh gorgeous girl we'll send an owl straight away to headmaster Dumbeldore to send you home via floo so that you can see..."
"Him" Christian interrupted with a cheeky grin.
"Her" Aaliyah argued smiling back. Aaliyah and her father began this little war over whether the baby was going to be a boy or a girl the moment Kani and Christian came into her room and told her, she was going to be a big sister.
"Him"
"Her"
Kanika sighed, "Im so sorry darling but this is what you're to be born into" she rubbed her stomach in a circular motion.
"Him" Christian uttered under his breath and Aaliyah couldn't help but laugh.
She than frowned her brows, "Do I still have to go?"
"Yes, dear Im afraid so" her mother wiped away a stay line of tears from Aaliyah's pale flesh that looked an unhealthy white against her dark complexion. Aaliyah definitely inherited her fathers features. She had her mothers curls, tiny structure and long lashes but everything else was a replica of her father. Kanika was a tiny woman with long brown curls all the way down her back and large brown eyes. She may have been tiny but no one argued with her when she got her head around something. She got scary when she was angry. Christian had light blonde locks that fell forwards into his sea green eyes. His skin was a bit tanner then his daughters but he was still rather ashen himself.
"But dont worry you'll be home for Christmas or even before when this little tyke comes along" Chistian explained whilst standing Aaliyah up and rubbing her shoulders affectionately.
"But now its time to eat so we can get to the Leakey Cauldron on time sweet pea." Aaliyah relented to her mothers wishes and ate as much as she could from the rather large pile of bacon, eggs, toast, harsh browns, and a few tradtional Dutch and Egyptian meals that Kani'd made for Christian and especially Aaliyah.

"Quick, quick! Christian you always manage to make us late!" Kani whimpered as she waddled through the gushes of people streaming through kings cross-station. Even with her being pregnant Aaliyah's tiny legs still couldn't keep up with her mothers quick strides, so Christian, seeing her predicament, scooped Aaliyah up onto his shoulders and ran behind Kanika who was pushing a trolley with Aaliyah's trunk and Mitzy, her tabby cat, in a cage.
She stopped abruptly and turned to both of them. Aaliyah looked left and right to see no trains as of yet. Maybe it already left. Yippee. She deviously thought to herself.
"Well... in you go" Her mother ordered and she creased her slim, light brows in confusion. Christian lifted Aaliyah off his shoulders and placed her in front of his tall body.
"In where?" She asked as her bewilderment mounting by the passing seconds. Christian took her hand and walked over to a pillar with two signs indicating to the left was platform ten and the right was platform nine. Aaliyah squinted slightly in wonder when her father looked around briefly and stood her in front of a specific side of the pillar.
"Just lean on the wall with me Al" he smiled and she did as she was told.
"Merlin, dad, a bit of warning would be nice," Aaliyah stood brushing herself off from her fall into this new concealed platform. He laughed at his little girls cheek and then Kani came through with the trolley changing his expression.
"Will you just let me take it Kani?"
"No!" She recoiled from him "Just because I'm carrying your fat child doesn't mean I'm incapable of pushing a trolley Christian," she said steering the trolley away from Christian's grasp as he made a move to take it.
Aaliyah laughed now. She loved seeing her dad brought down to size by such a tiny woman. But knew it wasnt weakness but intelligence. Getting the tiny form of Kanika Adams angry would be a very, very bad idea. Very bad indeed. Christian just rolled his eyes towards Aaliyah when Kani turned her back.
"I saw that" she said walking quickly towards the scarlet steam train as she spotted a familiar face.
"Only Merlin knows how,"said Christian making sure Kani couldnt hear and Aaliyah laughed as he put her back on his shoulders once more.
"Lula dear how are you?" Christian asked politely towards Aaliyah's youngest aunt. Aaliyah smiled down at her from her perch and she smiled back kindly. Lula was Aaliyah's favourite aunty because she was the one Aaliyah saw the most. She'd come to Australia to visit once a year and looked almost exactly the same as Kanika but just the tiniest bit taller, which Kani hated. They were the closest out of their mass of brothers and sisters because they were born merely ten months apart.
"Hi Mishi" Aaliyah waved happily to her favourite cousin who was nervously hanging tightly to her mothers arm.
"Hey Aaliyah" she waved up to her releasing her grip when she noticed someone her own age she knew was there now. Christian placed Aaliyah down and she threw Misha into the biggest hug she could manage. Misha was a lot bigger then Aaliyah. She was actually the right size for her age. Misha had the same dark complexion that her mother and aunty had and large chocolate eyes. Her hair was straight and extremely long and Misha was at least a foot taller then Aaliyah.
"Well girls, its time to hop on the train" Christian smiled at the amusing sight as Aaliyah and Misha laughed when Misha's older brother walked over to the little group that had been formed and tripped on his pants.
"What's up Nay?" said Misha and she and Aaliyah cracked into a fit of laughter as Nay picked himself up and brushed himself off. Nay was the same height as his sister and had cropped neat black hair and dark skin. He enjoyed teasing his sister and cousin when he came on holidays so this was an opportunity of a lifetime for the young girls.
"Send us a post card from your next trip" Aaliyah added and now even Chiristian chuckled, but quickly stopped at the glare emitted by Kani.
"Shut up squirts you'll get your own back," Nay said waving to a friend of his a little while away.
"I believe you're getting your own back" Aaliyah accused him and Nay just shrugged messed up her hair, bade his farewell's to the small family gathering and left to board the train with his second year friends.
Misha and Nay were older brother little sister till the end. Nay would tease her and she'd complain to her mother but whenever anyone else would tease Misha, Nay would flare up and protect her. Aaliyah didn't and couldn't understand how it worked. 'If someone teased you then they didnt like you' in her opinion. You can't call someone an annoying little prat and then turn around a tell someone else off for doing it. Aaliyah thought. She'd never understood that though because she'd never had any sibling rivalry. Well not as of yet anyhow. The entire concept on inter-social contact Aaliyah was indistinct to. She never learned how to distinguish a persons signs through body language or the way they reacted to you. Her parents were straightforward with what they wanted as all parents were. She never had to figure out that sometimes when someone was upset and told you to 'go away', for instance, it really meant 'please stay'.
"Okay lets get these blasted things on and find you both a compartment. Are you ready girls?" Aunty Lula asked levitating the two trunks from their trolleys.
"I just have to use the bathroom,"said Aaliyah letting go of Misha's waist and looking around. She spotted the sign instantly. "I'll be right back"
"Okay dear, dont talk to strangers," Kani called as Aaliyah walked away from them and she merely nodded back her answer.
Aaliyah stood on her highest tiptoes to try and reach the sink and only just managed to turn the tap on after lathering her hands. She jumped trying to see what the mirror reflected, but it was useless all she could make out were the top of her amber curls, her forehead and ocean blue eyes.
She sighed, "I wish I were taller," She lamented cursing her mothers genes and her small frame. To get into the bathrooms of platform nine and 3/4, as Aaliyah found out the hidden station was called, one had to first enter one swinging door then choose their pathway of girls, to your left, or boys, to your right. There was also a door straight ahead saying something Aaliyah couldn't read yet, but thought must have been for other creatures.
She exited the girls bathroom with an extra sigh and turned to exit the small corridor of the lavatories but were bowled backwards when some idiot flung the swinging door open so fast Aaliyah had no idea what hit her.
"You silly prat!" she cursed with the best swears she could remember whilst rubbing her little temple.
"Such harsh words from such a little girl. Truly Im wounded" a boys voice washed over Aaliyah. She looked up to see a boy not much older then herself clutching his chest in a mock death scene. He had midnight black hair that fell into his closed eyes and flicked at his collar. He was a lot taller then she and he reached out a hand to help Aaliyah up. Aaliyah looked at his face and saw a pair of stormy grey eyes smiling down at her.
"You're joking right?" She mused in her light voice raising her brows at his offer. "First you knock me over, then you call me little, then you dont even apologise. Get out of my way" Aaliyah helped herself up for the second time that day pushed past the boy and stormed out of the corridor.
On her way out she knocked into someone in her blind fury and the figure stumbled a bit.
"Whoa watch it whirl wind" he played steadying Aaliyah as his stump of a friend laughed at the comment. She looked up at the boy who saved her the humiliation of a third fall that day. He was quite a scrawny little boy but still bigger then she was as he had quite long legs. His messy brown hair cropped up everywhere and he wore a pair of glasses over his dark brown eyes. He smiled at Aaliyah and she unwittingly apologised.
"Its nothing. Just look up when you're storming through innocent bystanders next time" the other boy laughed again. Aaliyah looked over to him and liked that he was not much taller then herself. He was large and squat and his facial features reminded Aaliyah of a mouse she'd found Mitzy torturing last month with his large front teeth and mousey blonde hair. Her attention suddenly averted to the boy next to him. He was holding onto a sling bag that was over his shoulder and had no expression on his lips. If Kanika thought Aaliyah was skinny it was nothing compared to this boy. She would have had a heart attack, it was like he was made of nothing but skin pulled over bone. His eyes were an amazing amber hue and slightly sunken looking and his sandy brown curls fell forwards into his face. He also had several noticeable, long, thin scars on his neck and forearms.
"James Potter at your service" the boy flung a hand forward and Aaliyah jumped back before realising all he wanted to do was greet her.
"A-Aaliyah" she stuttered shaking it.
"These strapping lads before you are none other then the great Remus Lupin, boy of intelligence beyond belief," he indicated to the sickly boy "and Peter Pettigrew..." the stump laughed. Aaliyah raised an eyebrow wondering how he managed to laugh at such an unfunny situation.
"The boy of immense stupidity beyond all comprehension" a voice came from behind them. Aaliyah swung around to face her attacker once more. Her baby lips pursed and she glared at him as if he'd stolen her favourite doll and ripped its head off in front of her.
What a bad little boy. I know I dont want to get to know you. You dont even know how to say sorry. Aaliyah's thought filling the airwaves with negative energy. But she couldn't glare for long because in a bustle to get onto the train people around her were knocking into any and everything they came across. Someone collided with James again and he stumbled forwards crashing into Aly.
"Oh ah, sorry" James smiled at Aaliyah apoligetically.
"Oh ah, sorry" the other boy mocked and Peter snorted with laughter.
"Hes an unforgivable klutz this on-" the boy Aaliyah had yet to be introduced to spoke again. Everything about him made her want to punch him. He had an air of arrogance about him that was intoxicating not to mention the way he was teasing the nice boys she'd been talking to. Aaliyah was too young to overlook his attitude due to his looks as most of the girls at hogwarts did. He was unforgivably handsome but she just couldn't see it. All she saw was a cruel boy who wanted to banter people and bring them down.
"You're the klutz," she said without even letting him finish. She turned without even saying anything to the others and stormed off to find her parents. Aaliyah wanted to go to this school even less now that she'd met that boy. She just knew he'd become a nuisance.
Once she located the others near-by she argued uselessly with her parents about staying home. Their reaction was shoving Aaliyah in a compartment with Misha and kissing her goodbye.
