"Mom, regardless of how my expression may be after today, I want you to know that I Love you and that I'm not mad at you for deciding to move."
"Oh! Victoria, stop! Don't start with your senseless humor. It will be a wonderful first day of school. A chance to start over, a chance to create a better personality and establish a new image for yourself."
I wasn't sure if my mother was talking to me, or out loud to herself.
My name is Victoria (Vicky preferably) Anne Taylor and I'm 17 years old. I was born and raised in Orange County, California. My life was not so similar to the popular series called "The O.C." but I can't complain.
My mother is a real estate agent and her name is Patricia. My fathers' name is Robert and he's an accountant. They were high school sweethearts and got married once they graduated high school. 5 years later they had me and I completed their happy fairy tale family.
I have my mothers bright blue eyes and my fathers Dark brown hair. My skin is very delicate, I can be as white as snow during the winter, but I tan very easily during the summer and develop a nice gold skin tone.
Like I said, I couldn't really complain about my life, until my first day of Junior year, which was three months ago.
I usually drove home after school but my mothers car was in the shop so she borrowed my car. I didn't agree with the idea knowing that I would have to walk home, but it's not like I could refuse to let her borrow a car she bought me.
It was a bright salsa red Volks Wagon beetle convertible and even though it seemed like the typical California girl car.. I had to admit I loved it. I wasn't very popular and my only friend was a shy girl I've known since preschool. Her name is Samantha and even then, I believe we were only friends because my father did her families taxes. She had offered me a ride but I refused deciding to take advantage of the situation and actually exercise.
One thing I'm grateful for and that's my great metabolism. My looks were average compared to all the other blondes and brunettes in my school.
Everything was Average about me, I was 5'5 weighed 110 didn't have much of a bust or a butt, but I rather have close to none then too much. So there I was, walking home when I heard a familiar honk from behind me. When I turned around I saw my mom wearing my big white sunglasses and the top to my car down.
"Hey there pretty chick! Do ya need a lift?"
I was MORTIFIED! Thank the heavens no one was around.
"SShhh, mom! Someone might hear you!" I hissed as I ran to the car and hopped in.
"What are you doing out early? I thought you had a busy day at the office?" I asked as I noticed that it was only 4 o'clock.
"Yes I know, but the meeting got cancelled and I decided to be a good mom and pick you up and actually cook a decent meal tonight!" she said rather excited. I always thought my mom was a beautiful lady. Her eyes had Adventure written all over them, it was a happy moment. If I would have known it would be one of the last times I'd see her that full of energy, I would have taken the time to memorize as much as I could about her face and the wrinkles that were beginning to develop around her eyes when she had a smile that big. As we approached the house we noticed my father was parked in the drive way with another car parked next to him, where my mothers car usually parks.
"Hmm, I wonder why dads home."
"Well, he did say he might be coming home early, and that's Jennifer's Toyota, maybe she's having some problems with her bills.. or something."
Jennifer was my mothers best friend from childhood. They were always seen together and always voted best friends. But it was more of a rivalry then a friendship, they always competed to see who would end up being the most popular or who would have the most admirers.
My mother parked the car in front of the house and we walked in. I knew something wasnt right when I entered and didn't see them in the living room or dining room. I remember giving my mother a sympathetic look as she turned and slowly walked up the stairs to her bedroom. It was there that she found my dad cheating with her so called "best friend"
So here I am, three months later in Snow Hill, Maryland. My mother got custody of me and a divorce. We moved as far away from California as possible and moved in with her brother, my uncle, who was mayor of this small town.
I figured my mother chose this place because it was nothing like California. There was nothing here that could remind her of the sunny summers and life California had to offer. I never really was close to my uncle, but from all the stories my mother used to tell me, he seemed like a very interesting man.
He was recently married and had a son of 6 months. I had to admit though, with the house that we were currently staying in, things seemed a little too good to be true.
oOo nice house!
