There are some nights where no matter what I do, I just can't fall asleep.
This was one of those nights.
I tossed and turned.
I changed my position in attempts to be comfortable, but failed more times that I could count.
My headphones played a slow, soothing song in my ear as a way to relax me, but something kept my mind buzzing and my eyes were wide and alert.
I got up and stretched out, reburied myself in the covers, but to no avail...
I just couldn't sleep.
It was about 2 in the morning when I realized that my efforts to fall asleep were futile, and I decided on going to get a drink of water.
Beats hanging around my dark, silent room.
I crept down the stairs as quietly as possible, the small house managing to echo even the smallest of sounds to a colossal proportion.
Cringing, I finally got to the last squeaky step and stood on the cold wooden floor.
I just hoped I didn't wake anyone up.
The kitchen was close by, but what surprised me was the light flooding from it's entryway.
I inched closer and closer, until the light was now bathing my body in a glow and I stepped fully into the room.
"Looks like I'm not the only one who can't sleep." Bert said, raising his head and smiling at me.
I bit my lip, then returned the smile.
I didn't answer.
I cursed myself for still having those "first date" jitters about me.
"Yeah." I said quietly, and sat down next to him at the table.
"Here, have some." he said, handing me a glass of water.
Read minds much?
"Thanks." I said, grabbing it from him.
"I was watching this movie the other day..." Bert began.
And it was then I knew I should never feel uncomfortable around him.

"It's really late. I'm actually getting kind of tired." I said, stifling a yawn.
A glance at the clock told me it was almost 4 a.m.
"Spending time with me usually wears girls out." Bert said with a cocky grin.
I rolled my eyes and stood out of my chair, heading for the upstairs once more.
I heard the screeching of the chair on the floor beside it, and noticed Bert was coming up as well.
A shiver ran up my spine, and a sense of comfort bled through me as he placed his hand on my lower back and we both climbed the stairs.
I'm sure he could tell I was going excruciatingly slow on purpose, but he didn't complain, he just smiled at me.
"I guess I'll see you in the morning?" I asked, just as we reached my doorway.
"It is the morning." he said, still smiling.
"You know what I mean." I said with a sigh.
"Yeah, see you then." he said.
I was about to turn around, disappointed, but instead was caught off guard when Bert took my head in his hands and gently pulled me forward.
For a second I was frozen, but I soon reacted and moved my face towards his.
I could tell you what I was feeling, but I'm sure it would be impossible to describe.
Mix some sweaty palms, heart racing, anxiety, and joy and you've pretty much got it.
His breath was warm, but it was those lips that I was focused on.
They moved with slow tenderness, and the minute they reached mine I nearly melted into a puddle on the floor.
We stood there for a moment, savoring this as long as we could before we reluctantly broke off.
You can never have too much of a good thing, I suppose.
Rest in results...<3
"Night." he whispered.
"Night."
I turned around in a daze and stumbled into my room, nearly falling on top of my bed.
This time, I got to sleep.
With very good dreams, I might add.
