"You don't get it, do you?"
Anger seeped through bitter disappointment in Nathan Carter's words and mingled with raw agony as he flinched back at the hurt shining in a pair of large, crystalline eyes. He continued relentlessly, frantic to drive his point home,
"Your whole misconception of people is wrong and it's about time your stubborn mind realises it. We do not think about boning a girl 24/7. We do not dump a girl after we get laid the next day and we do not screw around a girl's feelings or lie to her when we tell them that we love them and think they're gorgeous. So what if this doesn't apply to every guy? The majority of us aren't as heartless as you think we are. Why don't you just believe me? I wasn't cheating on you, dammit!"
Breathing heavily, wide eyed with fresh pain reflecting back from those shiny blue orbs, tears a coat, his girlfriend's choked sobs reached his agonised ears, failing to acknowledge his words or comfort.
"You're lying, I know you are! Why can't you just tell me the truth and admit that you were two timing me, you jerk?" A heartbreaking sob followed afterwards.
Summer Wakefield's accusation glared at the boy she fell for, still convinced that he was cheating and lying to her.
"Summer," Nathan held his annoyance as desperation crept into his voice. He moved to hold the weeping girl,
"Summer, I didn't cheat on you and I'm not lying. Why don't you believe me?"
"Don't touch me!" Summer shrieked, attempting to slap Nathan's hands away in vain but failing miserably.
Nathan bought his strong arms around her carefully and crushed her into his chest then breathed deeply into her scent.
"Get away from me," Summer mumbled as her body automatically snuggled closer to Nathan's and relaxed, limp as a rag doll. She felt more tears leak out of her eyes, as she sniffed and felt her heart break more with each passing moment but strangely comforted at the same time, lying in his arms.
"Summer," Nathan closed his eyes and swallowed softly," I love you."
Big mistake.
Instead of being reassured and easing up at Nathan's declaration, Summer tensed and renewed indignation and outrage bubbled within her and she shoved Nathan away forcefully, hissing,
"Stop lying to me dammit! If you love me, you wouldn't have been in someone else's pants!"
"What makes you think I fucked another girl?" Nathan growled harshly, exasperated and irked beyond possible. The sudden change from his submissive demeanour into a dominative predator triggered Summer's adrenaline levels and they pumped into her muscles, causing her to become more wary, alert and enraged than ever.
"I... I... You were! I just know it! Rachel told me!" Summer choked out, suddenly feeling incredibly stupid and small immediately after she had spoken.
"What?"
At the mention of Rachel's name, Nathan's passive grey eyes darkened,
"Rachel Warren? The girl who backstabbed you in Sophomore year? Why would you think that I'd sleep with her?"
At "her", Nathan's lip curled and a look of disgust flashed across his face briefly, reminding Summer of a dangerous feline about to attack.
"She told me so", Summer whispered almost inaudibly, all of a sudden regretting everything she had said to Nathan since the beginning of when she had caused the whole mess.
"So you've convinced yourself that I've slept with another girl just because she told you so, without asking me first or any evidence whatsoever,"
Hearing Nathan speaking so calmly and seeing the emotionless expression he was looking at her with had the same effect as having hot rod pokers twisting into her heart and stomach, as Summer forced herself to nod, inwardly cursing her emotions for blinding her from rationally comprehending the problem. She was the one to blame for this. Upsetting their perfect relationship and disturbing the harmony.
If she was going to lose Nathan, it was going to be her entire fault.
A thick, heavy silence descended among the pair as the weight of the entire situation pressed down onto Nathan and Summer's shoulders.
"I'm so sorry," Summer couldn't even look him in the eye as she uttered her apology, her throat already constricting and guilt crashing into her, suffocating and crushing her,
"I really am, I just -"
Overreacted like usual?
Gave into paranoid and distrust knowing fully well of consequences?
"Am I supposed to forgive you?" Nathan cut her off. At his words, Summer visibly flinched, before overhead; the clouds began to shed their tears, drenching Summer and Nathan within a few minutes.
They stared at each other in silence, for what seemed like eternity before Summer broke the gaze and retreated.
"I'm going to go home, um, goodbye," she stuttered and began running towards home, her feet barely touching the ground from sheer cowardice at fleeing from him.
Half of her was anticipating and hoping that he would call her back or follow her.
The other half wanted to break into a run back to him.
She did not turn back.
He did not come after her.
"I'll be your everything and it'll mean nothing," she recalled what he had first said to her during their first meeting.
It seems his prediction had come true after all.
With every step she took, Summer's heart broke a little bit more, and as the thunder crackled above, she stumbled, terrified, a whimper escaping from her mouth.
Nathan had told her once," I'll follow you wherever you go".
Laughing sadly, Summer wiped her eyes before opening the front gates to her house and pasting on a fake smile.
Where was he now?
He lied.
Moreover, because of the break up with Nathan, her father was probably going to start beating her again because she had lost the opportunity to snag a rich boyfriend and keep one.
Like a domino effect, her world was about to fall apart. Only this time, as Summer trudged into her dad's office, dripping onto the carpet, this time, she didn't have anything or anyone to hold on for.
Anticipation started to build in her stomach as regret and guilt ignited then flickered out.
Nathan's heart stopped and he froze, as he heard a gunshot go off from inside Summer's house. He had tailed her the entire way home and was rehearsing everything in his mind on what to say to her, when the blast fired and his blood ran cold.
She was his entire world.
She was the reason why he bothered to go to some classes and get up in the morning.
Her smile caused all his problems to disappear.
He had finally found a beautiful, down to earth, smart and witty girl who didn't want him for money and wasn't a whore.
Now, his world was falling apart, because of his timing. And pride.
"OH MY FUCKING GOD!" Nathan could identify Mrs. Wakefield's scream," SOMEONE CALL 911!"

The scene that greeted Nathan when he sprinted past the front door shocked him into his very core and was one that would haunt him for the rest of his life.
His Summer. Dead. Lying in a pool of her own blood with a gun clutched in her lifeless hand.
Realization hit him at full force.
Summer was now officially gone...
Soon, Autumn will come to take her place...
It was a cycle of life. Birth. Youth. Fall. Numbness.
Jumping into conclusions leaves everyone with their bitter cold inner demons and a life long of regret.
