[pgbr]Alexa's Prologue
The days had been dragging by recently, tearing at you as you were bombarded with school projects and so called "volunteer" work. You needed a break. There was no doubt about it.
Your mother was off somewhere with the boys again, probably spoiling them with ice cream because they won a silly soccer game again. Maybe, if you were lucky, which you doubted, they would bring you back a sundae. Psh. Yeah right.
Walking out into the kitchen, you grabbed the box of Cinnamon Toast Cruch that was sitting on the counter, hoping for a decent breakfast before you went out to get away from everything, but you were left frowning as the box turned out to be filled with nothing but crumbs. Your stupid little brothers were going to pay.
The box was in the trash before you opened the fridge, looking for something decent -- and not moldy -- to eat. Nothing, as usual. Your stomach growled in protest, and you patted it gingerly, deciding it would be best if you went to bed and pretended that you had never woken up this morning.
That's when something caught your eye on the kitchen table, a thick, white envelope stamped with pretty cursive writing sitting apart from the other mail and looking out of place.
You blinked, then let your curiousity get the better of you as you walked over to it, picking it up and trying to decipher the name written above your address in the center of the envelope.
"Alexa . . . Diane . . . Cherry . . ." you read quietly, digesting it for a moment before your eyes widen. It was for you . . . When was the last time you had actually gotten mail?
The letter was open in less than two seconds, and the cover page was pulled out almost immediately, taut under your hot and vicious gaze.
Dear Ms. Cherry,
We were pleased to receive your application for our yearly student exchange program, and we have considered it thoroughly. Because you have such a strong understanding of the Japanese language and culture, and your interest is quite genuine, SEPA is proud to have chosen you for this year's program.
All arrangements have already been prepared for you, and we are pleased that your host family will be as thus:
Ms. Yoshiko Higurashi (host mother)
Mr. Satou Higurashi (host grandfather)
Ms. Kagome Higurashi (host sister)
Mr. Souta Higurashi (host brother)
The school you will be attending is Sarayashiki High School, who is happy to have accepted you with your excellent test scores. Arrangements have already been made for your classes and schedule, which will be provided in this letter. School supplies are also listed.
Your plane tickets are enclosed, and your flight out is scheduled for April 23rd at 8:32 a.m. and will arrive in Tokyo at 9:06 p.m. (in your current time). We ask that you please be prompt, as we will leave if you are not on board.
Sincerely,
Martha Gibbert
President of the SEPA
You stand still for a moment, attempting to figure out what you had just read. Yes, you had applied, but you had never, not even in a million years, thought that you would actually get accepted by the SEPA as a foreign exchange student. Your eyes traveled back the top of the letterhead, and your heart skips a beat. It really was for you . . .
You were really going to Japan . . .

[pgbr]Kaitsurinu's Prologue
You were out of class almost before the bell had finished ringing, ducking through the doorway and out into the school hall as quickly as humanly possible. School was out, and there was no way in hell that you were going to hang around here anymore, not when you knew that . . .
You tore out into the schoolyard, eyes alive with anticipation as you started to run, seeing the gate and whisking off towards it, blue uniform billowing out behind you.
And there he was, waiting for you as always right behind the wall, arms out and ready for your tackle.
"Well apparently someone missed me today." His arms were protectively around you as he ducked his dark head for a kiss, pulling you close to him. "Good thing. I missed you too."
"I wish you'd come to school every now and again." You smiled as he grimaced at the thought.
"And get chewed out for not wearing the school uniform? You wish." He smirked, brown eyes flashing. "So how was your day?"
"Same as always, I guess." You took your weight back onto your feet, straightening your hair. "Though Kuwabara was getting horny on Ame again."
"I hope that's not talking behind my back I hear." In an instant, a familiar bouncy red-head was next to you, pig tails swishing beside her round face. "We all know how I feel about that."
"Kaitsurin . . . why do you always have to get out here so faaaast . . .?" The final member of the three woman army, Tomoe, appeared, huffing slightly at the run out to the street. "I barely had time to put my things away before you were already out of the classroom."
"It's not my fault that the teacher is boring, and I'm forced to stare at Yusuke's empty seat the whole time. Seriously, who wants to learn English anyway?" You cling to your boyfriend tighter.
As if on cue, another student walks by, nose deep in an English textbook as they read aloud. "Rituru bai rituru . . . ai raan toruu happinesu."
You shove a finger out to point at the guy. "That doesn't even sound like English!"
"Apparently, you didn't hear that we have a quiz over that exact passage tomorrow." Tomoe gave you a typical idiot look, then rolled her eyes as your mouth opened in shock.
"But I don't have my book!" You let go of Yusuke to flail your arms in panic. "I'm going to bomb it for sure!"
"Yeah, like you're going to fail. Seriously." Ame joined Tomoe in rolling her eyes. "You're lucky we love you so much."
"As friends." Tomoe quickly added, glaring at the snickering boy behind you as she held out a plastic covered textbook.
You grabbed the textbook, kissing the cover as you held it tight to you. "You guys are the best! The absolute best!"
The shorter of the two girls took a quick step back, waving her black nail-polished hands. "Bubble!"
You hugged her and Ame anyway, laughing as you felt her tense. "I couldn't ask for any better friends!"
