Nathaniel drew his hands up to the stinging and burning sensation of his left cheek. Summer quickly covered her mouth muffling her gasp; she hadn't meant to slap him THAT hard. She hadn't even really intended on slapping him. It was an act on impulse if anything. "Holy shhhiiiiiitttt!" Nathaniel hissed underneath his breath. The security guard's footsteps gave off a slight echo every time it hit the floor as he drew closer towards their stall and rapped roughly against the door, "Is everything alright in there?" he asked. "Yeah, I was just err--- I uhh, just noticed how disgusting these washroom stalls are. Does anyone ever bother to clean them?" Nathaniel asked. The washroom as far as he could tell, was spotless and clean all around. The nightclub's janitors did their job well, but better a poor excuse than to have none at all. "Is that so? How very odd, I'm sure they cleaned this place inside and out before everyone arrived. Come out and I'll give it a good look." The security guard assured. So much for his master plan. Nathaniel looked over to Summer for any suggestions. She shook her head from side to side vigorously. Nathaniel braced himself up against the stall door making sure his feet cast a shadow beneath the open area where the security guard was able to see the bottom of his legs and shoes. Nathaniel pointed to the little open area to the right of the stall where his shadow was blocking all light from. He motioned for her to step down from the toilet rim and quickly slip underneath, switching to the stall beside them where Caleb and Leah were currently in. Summer didn't agree to this. He eyed her sternly, trying to make her see that it was either that or the risk of them getting caught; which was an exponential possibility at the moment. Summer loosened her stature in defeat and tied her hair into a ponytail so that it wouldn't touch the ground, giving them away. She silently stepped down; her foot placed down on the ground where Nathaniel's shadowed feet blocked her own. She couldn't see how this could possibly work, but there was no other way out. She hoped that if she snuck into the other stall quick enough the security guard wouldn't see the flicker of light as her shadow moved or her hands as she ducked under. She inhaled a deep breath and prepared herself to go under. But just then, they heard the shuffling of feet and the door of the stall beside them opening and closing shut with a silent creak. "Ohhh mah-n! That was so-mme partaayyy out there!" Caleb falsely slurred, pretending as if he were drunk. "Excuse me young man, I think you've had enough for one night. I'll take you to the door." The security guard said. "Yes sir!" Caleb exclaimed, saluting the security guard who had a very sceptical look on his face. Caleb marched out, soldier style, alongside the security guard and shut the men's washroom door behind him. Summer, Leah and Nathaniel were all safe to come out of their hiding places. Leah came out first and gave a great sigh of relief when she saw both Nathaniel and Summer in one piece. "I swear that boy's a genius, who knows what we'd have done without him." Leah flattered. "Weren't preaching the same thing 2.5 seconds ago." Nathaniel joked. "I know, but you could be wrong about a person." She smiled, nudging Summer. Summer rolled her eyes, "Let's just call it a night and get out of here alright?" Everyone nodded and quickly escaped through the door unnoticed. The security guard said he'd drop Caleb off at the door, so that was the first place they went to check. And as promised, Caleb was standing tall, waiting at the exit for their arrival. "Am I brilliant, or am I brilliant? I amaze myself with my quick thinking." Caleb boasted. "Yeah, yeah, we got it- you're good. Now let's get out of here." Nathaniel said, ushering them out the door. They walked together with each of the girls separating to follow the boy they'd come with. "Drive up beside me, and then we'll work things out." Nathaniel instructed Caleb. He nodded and with Summer he went to this car. Nathaniel reversed out of the parking space and waited for Caleb. It was around 12:30 am by now and the night sky was at its darkest; the velvet indigo covering the sky like a blanket with scattered stars illuminating the view. "Beautiful night or I should say morning, isn't it?" Leah asked, more to herself than to him. He answered anyway, "Yeah, I'd like to think so." He smiled charmingly. Caleb drove up beside Nathaniel's car and rolled down his window, "Nate, what's the plan?" "Drop them home then we head back out for the usual." Leah turned, "The usual?! What's that supposed to mean?" "Oh you know, just guy stuff." Caleb grinned. "From the look on your face, I don't even WANT to know what your guy stuff might entail." Leah grimaced. Summer looked from Caleb, to Nathaniel then to Leah. "I'd like to come." She shrugged, "Is it strictly for guys or something?" Nathaniel grinned, "Most girls aren't up for it." "Is that like, a challenge?" Leah insinuated. "No, it's a mere fact." Nathaniel responded. "We'll see about that!" Summer huffed. Nathaniel looked over into Caleb's car at Summer and laughed. She was adorable. Absolutely, utterly- adorable. "You'll be singing another tune once you get there sweetheart." Nathaniel promised, grinning widely. "Okay so enough with the jokes, WHAT are you guys doing?" Leah exclaimed, jabbing her index finger into Nathaniel's arm. The two boys exchanged glances with one another, "- - -Ladies, we're going paint balling." The girls moved in their seats so they were able to see the others expression, "Oh for the Love of God." Summer grumbled, purposely banging her head against the leather seat of Caleb's car. "Hey, hey now. No one said you had to come along. You invited yourselves so you can UN-invite yourselves- simple as that." Caleb said. "I seriously hope you didn't think you'd get us out of the picture that quickly because quite frankly, that'd just be tragic." Leah sarcastically remarked. "I like my girls hardcore like that. Make them tougher to break, but worth the candy at the end." Caleb winked. "You're sick. And pathetic. Can we go now?" Leah remarked, turning to Nathaniel to drive off. "Whenever you're ready" "That'd be now, please and thank you." Leah replied. Nathaniel nodded in Caleb's direction and they finally left the nightclub behind and drove onto the road ahead. 12:40 am, Saturday morning in Nathaniel's Car Leah stretched and braced her head back while covering her mouth, stifling an evident yawn. "Tired are we?" Nathaniel casually noted. "Aren't you nosey," Leah said covering a smile. "Just observant." He replied. "Okay, well since we're being observant, as you put it- What happened to your left cheek?" Nathaniel straightened his back in the driver's seat, "Nothing, it was just really hot in there." "Ugh damn it, you and your male pride. She slapped you didn't she?" Leah asked. "You and your womanly mystery. If you knew the answer, why'd you have to ask?" Nathaniel grumbled. "Because, that's what women do. Why'd she slap you anyways, you must of done something to deserve it." She assured. "Of course, I must have deserved it. Shit, you women think you have the world figured out." "Don't we?" she joked. "I kissed her." Nathaniel simply stated. The air between then seemed crisp and it was so cold outside he could see the carbon dioxide spilling into the air in front of him as he exhaled. It was quiet for a moment while Leah contemplated the right choice of words. "I- I don't think she meant to." Leah mummured. His brows were knotted, "Of course not, that's why I've still got her hand print on the side of my face." He seemed angered. "Maybe she was scared?" Leah tried reasoning. "Of what? Me, of her, of me and her? Of the possibilities? Well I'm sorry, if I knew men weren't her type I would have reconsidered the situation." "What situation?" "It was the only way to get her to shut the hell up." "Are you sure that's the only reason?" She asked. "You're doing that female mysterious reverse psychology shit on me again. Stop it." Nathaniel spoke. Leah threw her head back and laughed, "Okay fine. Was there any feeling in it?" "I don't know." He answered in that monotone voice he always used when he either wanted to change the subject or just end the conversation period. "You don't know?" "No, I don't know." And the strange thing was, was that he really didn't know. How could you accumulate feelings for someone in such a short amount of time? Or was that just how Love worked? He didn't know.
