With a heavy sigh, Leah decided to just drop the subject altogether. No use in trying to get a stubborn, hard-headed and self consumed boy to open his heart. That would be the day. . .
Hah! Like THAT'D ever happen.
Trying to make light of the previous conversation since things were starting to get awkwardly quiet, Leah asked, "So, you had fun tonight?"
"Before or after I ran into the men's washroom holding my stomach, praying to the God I never knew, wondering if I'd die on the spot?"
"Whoa, somebody's in a bad mood. No need to be a grouch; if you didn't wanna talk then all you had to do was say so." Leah snapped.
"Who said I was in a bad mood? This is me perfectly calm." Nathaniel lied.
"Then I don't want to know you when you're not." Leah grumbled, folding her arms across her chest.
"Hey, hey, I'm sorry. Just don't pout like that. Makes your cheeks sink in and your forehead wrinkle. Not a good look for you." Nathaniel joked, flashing a smile.
Leah smiled back, appreciative at his motives of trying to make better of the situation. They rolled into her driveway and parked.
"So, I guess I'll be seeing you in a few hours then?" Leah hesitantly spoke after a moment of silence.
"Yeah, after I catch up on a few hours of sleep. Should I uhh, call you or something?" Nathaniel asked. She smiled at his fumbling of words.
"Sure. My number's 905-739-0132" She said, unlatching Nathaniel's car door.
Leah stepped out of the car and with a slight wave of her hand she quickly walked up her front driveway and went into her house, closing the door behind her. When Nathaniel was certain she was safely in her home, he backed out of the driveway and drove his way back to his own.
It was well past 1:00 am in the morning when Nathaniel walked into his house, immediately kicking off his shoes and throwing his jacket into the nearby closet. He quickly stuck his head into the living room and found his mother silently sleeping on the sofa. Nathaniel watched his mother asleep with the gentle humming of the television playing in the background and the vibrant colours reflecting across her face. He smiled to himself and quietly walked over to turn off the television. Nathaniel gently pressed his lips against his mother's forehead and began to walk away.
"Home so early?" She asked, her voice still filled with sleep.
He laughed, "I guess you could consider this early."
As soon as Nathaniel reached the stairs, he'd already began to undress himself. Rubbing at his eyes, he pulled his long sleeved shirt over his head and unbuckled his belt, undoing the zipper of his jeans. He groggily opened his bedroom door and threw his clothes to the hamper located to the far corner of his room. Wearing nothing more but a pair of boxers and socks, Nathaniel crashed onto his bed and instantaneously fell into a deep sleep.

2:00 pm, The next day
"Rise and shine sweetheart, it's no longer sleeping time!" Nathaniel's mother cheerfully sang. She pulled back the window's blinds and allowed the light to filter through, glinting into Nathaniel's eyes.
"Jesus, mom! What are you doing in my room?!" Nathaniel asked irritated, shielding his eyes from the rays of light.
"I'm your mother, you can't speak to me like that! And besides, I own this house." His mother scolded.
"You own everywhere but here." Nathaniel argued.
"Typical. You're just like your father, always fighting to defend their territory or what's theirs." She sighed.
"Then why didn't he fight for us?"
The room went quiet, and for a moment his mother just stood there with her back drawn away from him and her posture rigid. "Because maybe we weren't worth it." She said, and left his room.
"Shit." Nathaniel hissed as soon as he heard the door close.
He fell back into his sheets and decided to lay there for a few more minutes before getting up to face his mother.

Summer Lee awoke with a start as she remembered last night's milestone. She swung her legs to the side of the bed and allowed it to dangle there. She gently raised her fingertips to touch the part of her lips where Nathaniel had kissed. To her surprise, Summer found herself smiling at the remembrance of it. She walked over to her bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. Her cheeks were rose tinted from unknowingly blushing.
"I'm being ridiculous. This entire thing is ridiculous." Summer sighed to herself.
She turned on the sink tap and allowed the cold, fresh water to fill up the bowl of her two hands. She splashed the water across her face and sapped it with a nearby towel and walked out after she'd taken her shower and freshened up. Summer called her best friend Leah and after three rings, someone picked up.
"Mmmm, what time is it?" Leah sleepily asked as she picked up her private phone line.
"2:00 in the afternoon. Or is that still too early for you?" Summer sarcastically remarked.
"After last night, yeah I would call this too damn early for me to function! My entire body aches" Leah complained.
"Yeah, you and Nathaniel were going at it pretty hard on the dance floor." Summer mused.
"Yeah well, I wasn't the one that locked lips with him!" Leah blurted. She heard the gasping of Summer on the other end of the line.
"He TOLD you?!" Summer gasped and she felt the heat rise to her cheeks.
"Well. . . look at it as more of a confession than as just telling." Leah replied.
"Ugh, that's the SAME THING! Confession, revelation, telling. Same old shit, just one sounds better than the other. Oh God." Summer groaned, rubbing her hands over her face.
"Was he good?" Leah curiously asked.
"LEAH!" Summer squeaked.
"SUMMER!" Leah yelled back into the mouth piece of the phone.
"Well. . . was he?" Leah pressed.
"Considering the current situation-" Summer began. "Damn it, is he good or NOT? It's not that hard." Leah exclaimed.
"Just listen!" Summer grumbled.
"I've been listening for a long time now." Leah snapped back.
"As I was saying, considering the fact that we were in a male washroom stall with little breathing space and not much room for anything else it was. . . amazing" she confessed.
Summer heard squeals coming from Leah on the other end. "But it also felt so wrong." She added. The squealing suddenly stopped.
"That makes no sense. What so ever." Leah said.
"I barely know him! Jesus Leah, I've known him for less than 3 days." Summer complained.
"Does a girl ever really know a guy before she kisses him?" Leah asked.
"Well, no. I guess not." Summer replied.
"Exactly." Leah grinned to herself.
"Okay, okay, so it was amazing. But it's not like he felt the same."
"Oh, I wouldn't say that just yet." Leah squealed.
"Dear God, what ELSE did he tell you?" Summer asked.
"Well you see, he didn't exactly tell me. But it was pretty obvious. He felt it too." Leah exclaimed.
"You think so?" Summer pressed.
"I KNOW so." Leah finished.
"Are you just saying that because I've been your best friend since 5th grade?" Summer inquired, arching an eyebrow Leah wasn't able to see.
"Now why wou-" Leah started. "Wait! There's someone else on the line." Summer quickly said before pressing the flash button on her phone.
"Hello?" Summer spoke into the phone.
Awkward silence.
"Umm yeah, is Leah there?" a voice Summer recognized as Nathaniel's, asked.
"Mmm, no. This is Summer. Could you wait a second please? I've got someone on the other line." She said.
"Oh? I could have sworn this was Leah's number. I guess I should just go, don't want to bother you or whatever."
"No!" Summer said a little too loudly into the mouth piece of the phone. Her cheeks were burning a crimson colour at this point.
Summer didn't wait for his reply, she was now too embarrassed and switched the phone line to Leah.
"Dear Jesus you won't believe who's on the other line. It's NATHANIEL. Oh Christ." Summer panicked, on the verge of hyperventilation.
"Step one: stop crying wolf to Jesus or else he'll stop listening to you. Step two: Calm the fuck down. Step three: find out what he wants and phone me back as soon as possible. Registered all that?" Leah sternly said.
"Stop with Jesus, breathe, find out what he wants. Got it." Summer replied, exhaling a deep breath.
"Good, now go!" Leah scolded.
"Wait a second . . . he asked for YOU. Which means that he thought MY number was YOURS. Which also means that yo- -" Summer was immediately cut off.
"YesIknowI'materriblepersonIloveyoutalktoyoulatertellmehowitgoesBYE!" Leah quickly rambled and hung up.
Summer switched back the phone lines after Leah hung up. "Hey, you still there?" she asked.
"Yeah, I'm still here." Nathaniel said.
"So sorry about that. That was Leah on the other line. Apparently, she got our phone numbers mixed up."
"I wonder why she'd do that." Nathaniel laughed.
"Probably thought she was doing you a favour." Summer mused.
"I'll thank her for it then."
"What?" Summer asked, now more attentive.
"For the favour." Nathaniel finished.
"So. . . this is getting really awkward. I think I should just say it and get it out in the open." Summer inhaled a deep breath, "You kissed me. I kissed you back. We kissed together. In a stall. Very unorthodox I might add."
"You finished?" Nathaniel asked.
"Wha-? Yeah, I'm just about done."
"Okay good. What are you doing this afternoon?" Nathaniel abruptly asked. Summer was taken aback.
"Errrrmm, I dunno. What am I doing this afternoon?" She asked back.
Nathaniel grinned, "There was the option of paint balling. But that's a total game killer with the ladies; they usually don't take well to me shooting them with a paint gun."
"How unromantic." Summer smiled to herself.
"I thought you'd say as much. I'll be there in five." Nathaniel said, about to hang up.
"BUT WAIT! In 5 minutes?! You haven't even told me where we're supposed to be going." Summer grumbled, aggravated.
"It's a surprise." Nathaniel said, his grin evident in his tone.
"Oh joy." Summer muttered.

"If I kissed you where it's sore, would you feel better? Would you feel anything at all?"
