It was a warm Thursday in July, a few months after Yusuke's return from the Makai, when it started. Koenma, the infant-like, prince of Spirit World, was lazily stamping papers while his right hand man, or ogre in this case, had a pile of more files to be stamped by the "young" ruler. As he was "maturely" working on the files at hand, his best guide to the River Styx,Botan, came barging in un-announced.
"Koenma!!" cried the excited reaper. She sat on her oar, hovering in mid air, with a large smile taped on her face. This smile was much larger than he usual ones. The ruler sighed unhappily, however he was very much appreciated that the sudden news had delayed his stamping and given him a small break.
"Yes Botan, what is it?" he said, his index fingers stroking his temple from the strain of the paper work. Reading a paper, especially a white, brightly shone, piece of paper, had irritated his once tolerable eyes, turning them into fragile honeycomb orbs. He reached out from his desk
draw and pulled out a bottle of aspirin. He took a pill, swallowing a bit of water from the cup Gorge had placed a on his desk a while ago. He looked back at Botan in a professional manner, nodding his head to inform his employee to continue. She brought her hand to her lips, clearing her throat, before continuing the supposed "good" news.
"Well sir," she began, but her face had turned a little grim. "You see, it's really bad news. Around the Spirit World district in America, there had been many unexplained deaths and your father wanted to.." Before she could finish her though, her employer had stopped her, by saying.
"Botan, you know how chaotic it can be in America. I think it's just a regular serial killing that the police are capable of solving."
"Koenma sir, the deaths seem demon related. There have been traces of demonic energy in the areas where the victims had been murdered. And they are too cruel to be a human act. In that district they had never needed Spirit Detective, so Koenma, King Enma himself told me to re-assign everyone back on the team to deal with these cases." Botan let out a small smile, remembering her former teammates soothed her heart. In the distance, even the prince himself smiled. It has seemed these months, he had actual missed the many insults and rude comments Yusuke had to offer.
"I see, Botan. Go and get Yusuke, Kurama and Kuwabara first. I will see if Kurama can convince Hiei to rejoin, only for this case though, and hopefully with there new energy levels, it will be quick for them to finish. Also, tell them they have a choice to rejoin or not, but tell them I would like to have a word with them before they make their decisions." The guide happily nodded in agreement and went off to see her former teammates. Even though she knew they may not come back, it was still a happy moment to know she will be seeing them, and not in a matter of a formal visit her job entitles. Koenma's father's, voice roared within the castle, because of his vast height. The prince stood up quickly and rushed to his father's chambers, hearing his call, or demand, to report to him immediately. Not wanting to receive the meager, spanking as punishment, Koenma was there in a few seconds, answering his call immediately.
"Yes father?" The ruler asked, now in his taller teenaged form.
"This case is especially important. Not only is the circumstances great, but Anumai herself, requested that you bring her the boys. She trusts in their abilities greatly, and ask to train them in the process, with Genkai also. If she requested this, than the situation is more grim than we have first thought." The small ruler gulped, nodding his head, and bowing down to his father. Enma motioned his hand in a wave like motion, for Koenma to be able to leave and attend to the matter at hand. Luckily for him, that his three ex-employees were at Master Genkai's temple right now, as they speak, having a short reunion, even though it has been merely five months since there last visit.

[At Genkai's temple]
Yusuke, Chu and Jin were playfully wrestling with one another, while Kurama, Shizuru, and Genkai had a casual talk, and Kazuma was flirting with Yukina. They have been going out for a while since they've settled down since and during the Demon Tournament. Kazuma had confessed his love for Yukina many times, but Yukina, with her naive and fragile personality, was oblivious to Kazuma's constant confessions of love, and still did not understand most of the flirtatious comments he
bestowed upon her. And it just so happened that a dark, hooded, yet calm and at ease, person was watching in the distance, growing angry at Kazuma's human like gestures of love, but slowly, soothing relief that his young sister was at ease and was at no harm now.
He looked beyond the two lovers, or the two confused friends, and focused his thoughts on Genkai's little chat session. He looked at his friend, the first and only person he had ever considered to be caring enough to be considered friend, Kurama. Now a days, he watched as his friend lost interest in his former demonic life, and grow into an intelligent,
strong, and well minded human. He was being called Suichi more, even by those that knew the truth, to hold on to the fact, that he has chosen to leave his demonic past, his thieving and lying life behind. On some occasions many, even himself, had called him by Kurama instead of Suichi, but the kind red-headed male just brushed it off, knowing it was just a little
mistake, and that his friends had truly accepted his decision to leave his past behind. He had wondered casually, whether he would permanently leave his past life and alias, Kurama, or if he would remain Kurama, only "resurrecting" him when the time was right.
A cool autumn breeze blew by, rattling the trees, forcing them
to she there dried and wrinkled leaves. He looked from his spot on a tree branch and in the distance saw a familiar blue blur, but he couldn't place a finger on it. He had seen it many times, but it was as if he forgot. He was about to question his sight, when a call caught his attention.
He turned around, still on the branch of the tree, and peered down, staring straight into a pair of emerald eyes. He had always thought of them as a series of an abyss, a shining gem, showing mischief, cunning, and a small hint of pain, confusion on what the boy truly was, but now in those eyes, he sees that his greatest friend was content, at ease with himself and everything around him. He let out a small, very faint smile, and looked down at the red-haired warrior dubbed Kurama.
"It's good to see you again Hiei." Kurama had a playful smile
on his lips. Teasing the apparition, in a playful and happy way. To see those crimson orbs at ease, a hint of happiness and content within them, was enough to know that his first demonic friend, and greatest partner, was happy with life. Both men looked back at the group, their attention drawn towards there leader.
The man that made all of this happen. Each one smiled, one on the outside, the other on the inside, and couldn't help but laugh. Their boss, leader of the team, right hand man, eager and trouble some friend, the man whom none of their happiness was possible until he had entered their lives. Each one recalled the day they met. It was the boys first mission, to retrieve the mystical items they had stolen together along with an accomplish who has been dead for years. Kurama can't help but thank his friend over and over again. He gave them strength, courage, meaning, and everything they needed to be happy. Without him, Kurama would be dead. His mother, mourning his lost, his battle with Ura Urashima, finally awakening his Yoko alias, his friendship with Kaito, and his confrontation with his former partner Yomi. None of which would have happened if the energetic teen hadn't interfere with their affairs. Even Hiei had to thank him. He was, after all the one who saved his sister, his own life, and had stopped him before a rein of terror that may have ended with his sorrow increased with the many bloodshed that could have occurred. He owed everything to him, they both did. The young detective must have noticed their starring, because he turned around and looked in their direction. With a smile on his lips, he waved his hand at them.
"Hey Hiei!!! Long time no see!" He chuckled a little and the
others turned there attention to the two demon friends. Each one said there "hellos" in different manners and the two friends casually walked to their leader, the boy whom they owed everything to, Yusuke Urameshi. As the two approach their remaining friends, the blue blur had come by again, but this time, the blur was followed by a chipper, to-happy voice, that they were either happy to hear, or annoyed that the voice came back.
"Hello everyone!" Called Botan, the grim reaper and former assistant. She hovered over them, then dropped to the ground, landing
gracefully on her feet. She was in regular clothes, and not the attire she had constantly wore before. She made her oar, which she used to fly, disappear from her hands, but not for long. Everyone had their attention on the happy girl, but grew concerned with her serious face.
"Here's the thing everyone. Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei,
Koenma needs all for of you to come back and become a team again, but!"
she said rather loudly. Each boy was ready to give a word of protest when she continued. "But you don't have to go if you don't want to. We know you're all retired, but this is a serious order from King Enma. He wouldn't ask unless it was very serious, and it is. Koenma is willing to pay a good amount for your services. He wants you guys to hear him out first before you decide. And Genkai," The messenger turned her attention towards the fragile, old woman. "This goes for you too. Koenma wants you to accompany them to where they're going, to help train them if they decide to go. You don't have to go either, just go to Spirit World and hear what Koenma has to say. So, will you go?" She looked at each one, with hopefulness in her eyes. She would be delighted to be with them a longer while. Each looked at one another, they thought. Again they looked at each, and nodded. They looked directly at Hiei, and he nodded as well, though he was very reluctant.
"Okay Botan," Kurama began, speaking on behalf of everyone,
"We'll go to Spirit World and hear Koenma out."
