Inside the club, loud music was bouncing off the brightly colored walls. The band playing on the stage was giving an all out performance adding to the excitement already felt inside. Tons of people moshing nearing the stage completely losing themselves to the music. Greg already could feel himself shaking with anticipation. Deciding to find a place to sit first the girls, headed off towards the tables while Billie Joe and Greg went to get some drinks.
As soon as they find an open table, seconds after sitting down a guy approached Hailey for a dance. Smiling she told him sorry she was with someone, so he moved on to Ana with the same results. Hailey turned to Ana and laughed. "Well that was quick. Two minutes inside and we're already getting hit on." She beamed as she looked around the room. Ana nodded in agreement as she tapped her foot to the music, feeling the vibrations under her feet.
"We've got the drinks!" Greg announced cheerfully placing them down as they took their seats. Billie pulled out a chair taking a seat next to Ana, laughing at Greg's overenthusiastic behavior. Surprised that they actually managed to get the drinks Ana leaned forward towards Billie Joe.
"Were allowed to drink here, too?"
"Yeah, my cousin doesn't mind. He says that we can drink, just as long as we don't end up in jail." Greg smiled, liking the idea that he could drink, typical Greg. He had found his paradise alright.
"Dude, that's cool." Greg said taking a large gulp of his beer before turning to Hailey, "Hey, Hailey, wanna dance?"
"Sure," Standing up, she followed Greg to the dance floor leaving Ana and Billie at the table.
"Guess it's just you and me now." Billie joked placing his beer down.
"Guess so; leave it to those two to get riled up so soon." She looked over at him smiling, her gaze lingering slightly on his. Turning her head, she wondered why she suddenly felt a slight tingle in the pit of her stomach. Letting it pass she started up a random conversation with him which soon ended up getting pretty deep when they were interrupted by a questioning voice. "Oh thanks but I'll pass."
"Come on it's just a dance I'm not going to bite you or anything."
"Yeah I'm sure but that answer's still no." Ana replied coldly not liking his persistence one bit. It didn't seem to phase him one bit though as he continued to ask her despite her already repeated no.
Listen, she said she didnt want to dance so why dont you just shove off, loser. The guy looked at Billie Joe with a deadly look but decided to let it slide and walked away. Ana thought she head him say something to himself but ignored it.
Looking over at Ana a bit of concern reflected in his light eyes. You good? There are a lot of jackasses like him in this place. Ana nodded picking up her beer.
Yeah, Im okay. Thanks though. That was pretty cool of you.
No problem, I'm just awesome that way. Laughing at his statement Billie smiled to himself before continuing. "What it's true, didn't you notice it when you met me. I just radiate awesomeness."
"No sorry," She kept laughing, "Must have missed your awesome vibes jumping out of you." Shaking his head in disappointment, he sighed.
"Shame really, they're so impressive." Laughing they ordered another round of beer just as Greg and Hailey came back, slightly out of breath.
"God that was great. This band kicks ass." Hailey said wiping her brow free of the tiny beads of sweat. Greg agreed picking up the newly arrived refreshments. Somewhere between their third or fourth beer Hailey and Greg had disappeared from the table. Noticing their absence Ana peered around the club until she spotted the two teens going all out on the dance floor. Smiling to herself, she had a slightly wistful look dusting her features.
"Want to dance?" Tearing her eyes away from her friends, she looked back into two emerald eyes staring at her.
"Huh?"
"Dance, do you want to?" Shaking her head lightly Ana smiled a little embarrassed.
"Oh, I can't dance really."
"Neither can I." Billie replied smiling, as he extended his arm out for her hand. Unable to hold back the tiny blush Ana nodded taking his hand.
"Okay." Making their way towards the crowd, they danced a couple of songs before retreated back to their table. Not long after they followed Hailey and Greg for another go at the dance floor. Without even realizing, exactly when it happened Ana was finding herself having fun, which she hadn't had in quite a while. So much so, that she didn't want to leave and lose that feeling again. Yet as midnight rolled around, sadly for her they had to.
Deciding to crash at Hailey's for the night, they decided their sleeping arrangements. "You two can fight over who gets the couch. Have fun." Smiling brightly Hailey turned for her room, Ana following behind. Two steps later, a chorus of dibs rang out followed by long-winded explanations, retorts and insults. Sighing Hailey shook her head suddenly finding both of them quite moronic at the moment. Shrugging both girls shut the bedroom door figuring they'd manage somehow without too much trouble.
Lying in bed Ana stared at the dark ceiling about her. Despite her efforts, she had managed to scare off her need for sleep. Next to her, she could hear Hailey's soft breathing signaling that she was fast asleep. Crawling out of the small bed, Ana tiptoed out of the room and took a quick peek into the living room. Spotting the two-silhouetted figures, she squinted making out Billie's form on the couch and Greg on the floor. Guess Greg lost. Hearing the light snoring coming from the floor she imagined Billie too was slumbering peacefully. Quietly making her way past them, she stepped outside onto the porch. Taking a seat on the second step, she breathed in the night air.
Staring out into the dark neighborhood Ana began to think about her parents, school and her life in general. She wanted out of that house but where would she go? The idea always ended at a dead end. She only had a few more months before she graduated and then she'd have to figure out what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. At least she had her friends that in itself was something. Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door opening behind her. Turning around she saw Billie standing in the doorway. By the look of his face, Ana could tell he hadn't just woken up.
Walking up to her, he sat on the step beside her. "Can't sleep?" He asked.
"Insomnia. You?"
"Same. I hate it. It happens to me all the time." He said. "So, what are you doing out here?"
"Not sleeping." Ana joked.
"Really? Never would have guessed." Smiling Ana looked ahead of her.
"I was just thinking."
"About what?"
"Oh, just about everything that's going on in my life right now."
"Like what?"
"You're very inquisitive, aren't you?"
"Im curious."
"Curiosity killed the cat." She stated glancing over at him.
"Well could thing I'm not a cat then." Ana laughed, a smile delicately lacing her lips. The moment passing, the smile with it she drew her knees closer to her.
"I was thinking about tonight."
"At the club?"
"Yeah, I had a lot of fun."
"Me too."
"I can't remember the last time I had that much fun."
"Well then it's a good thing we went out today." She nodded looking down at the bottom steps.
"I was also thinking about my friends."
"You're friends? Which ones?"
"Just Hailey, Greg, and you." He wasn't sure why but that fact that he was included in the list made him extremely happy but he didn't show. Billie merely nodded his fingers tracing the engravings in the steps.
"At my old school, I didn't have many friends either."
"I don't like having a lot of friends. It gets too complicated, I guess."
"Yeah." Billie agreed quietly staring out onto the street. Ana followed his gaze out into the distance and for a long time, they just sat there. It was nice, a sort of comforting silence. Despite the comfort she decided break the silence.
"Well, I'm going to head back inside. Maybe I can get to sleep now. Thanks for keeping me company." She smiled softly at him.
"Any time." He replied following suit. Taking Ana's hand, helping her up leading her to the door, where he held it open, "After you."
"You're such a gentleman." Laughing quietly she went inside being swallowed by the room's darkness. Shutting the door behind him, Billie stepped over Greg back onto the couch. Giving a short wave, Ana headed back into Hailey's room finding her friend still asleep. Crawling back into bed, she pulled the sheets to her chin before closing her eyes. The clock read three in the morning before she fell asleep.
