Sonja is such a sweetheart. She caught me walking (or rather, sneaking) out of the bathroom in the morning. I think she was shocked (okay, she really was) to see me, and to make a not so long story really short, she took me in as "her" guest.
Apparently their mom would freak if she found out Brendon spent the night with a girl. Go figure, huh?
Sonja just made me promise that I didn't "do anything with that dork." I laughed. Please. Like I would.
The look on Brendon's face when he walked into the kitchen (boxers!) and saw me chatting it up with his mom and sister was priceless.
I played it up a little, asking, "Sonja, is that your brother?"
"Brendon, go change! Your sister has a guest. Be polite, please," his mom yelled at him. I felt bad. Kind of. He still had "The Look" on his face. And she scolded more than yelled...
Is it too weird (early) to say that I want to have his babies? They'd be adorable.
I made sure to squeal loud enough for Brendon to hear after he left, "He's so cute!"
To say the least, breakfast was interesting enough. Just Sonja asking us questions. And Brendon holding my hand under the table. That was enough to make me smile. It was as perfect as it could be.
Then, everything came crashing down around us when Peter called, saying he was coming to pick me up. There went my happiness.
Once we finished breakfast, I sat there quietly, biting my lip. I really didn't want to go. I would go back to school, and the routine and monotony would surely kill me. Then Brendon wouldn't have a girlfriend anymore. He would be sad.
And all too soon, there was the dreaded knock on the door. Of course, Sonja squealed (I remember how natural squealing was at that age. In fact, it still is.) and ran to get the door. Her "future husband" was on thet other side, after all.
I groaned, "I don't wanna go..."
Brendon mumubled, while hugging me, "Yeah... I don't want you to, either. But I'll be over to visit you soon. I promise."
I wanted to laugh. Promises aren't only meant to be broken. Especially promised visits. I should know. Peter's broken them enough.
But I didn't. Instead I gripped Brendon's shirt in my hands and mumbled into his shoulder, "Thanks."
For what, I don't know. It could have been for letting me stay, for being my boyfriend, for even existing. But no matter what it was, it struck me that Brendon was somebody who could break my heart just as easily as he jumped in.

"Em, it's time to go... We'll miss the flight."
My grip on Brendon tightened. I wasn't ready. Brendon gently pried me off of him.
"Now, now... I know I'm irresitible, but please. Your brother and my sister are in the room. Save it for later," Brendon said with a wink.
I flashed my eyes over to Sonja. She seemed intent with staring (and drooling) over Pete. Uh, ew.
I moved my gaze over to Pete, who was attempting to give Brendon and I some privacy. He was staring at Brendon's school pictures. (Adorable kid. I swear.)
I nodded, moving up to kiss Brendon's cheek, "'Kay... I'll see you soon. Right?" I muttered.
Brendon smiled brightly, "Yeah, of course! Chicago's only a little more than half way across the country..."
I frowned, trying to sound upset, "Stop that. It's not funny."
I failed miserably. Brendon's smile was too infectious. I smiled back at him.
"Ready, Em?" Peter asked softly.
I nodded, but just barely, "Yeah... I guess. But, um. Would you do me a favor?"
Pete stared at me, waiting for me to elaborate. "You see... This morning, to keep order in the house, Brendon's sister, Sonja, claimed me as her friend, so her mom wouldn't freak out on Bren and I. I kind of told her that you would give her a hug. And sign something. And, uh, have a quick chat with her..."
Pete laughed, "Yeah, okay." He turned to Sonja, "I'm assuming that's you?"
She froze, and hardly whispered, "Yes..."
I giggled, looking at Brendon, "They'd make a cute couple."
Brendon looked disgusted, "No way. I mean, no offense to your brother, but, he's old. There's no way I would let my little sister date somebody over ten years older than her."
I laughed, "I was kidding Bren. I wouldn't let my big brother date somebody five years younger than him."
He grinned, "So he's kind of like the village idiot, and you're his keeper?"
I rolled my eyes, "That's one way to put it."
Results.
Thanks.
