Six:: Insecurities
Suigetsu looked at the clock for the twentieth time within the past half hour. It was almost nine p.m., and you were nowhere to be found. He knew that you were going to be home late, but this was a bit ridiculous.
"She went out with Juugo," Karin stated from the doorway. She had prepared herself a small TV dinner and was taking it to her room.
Suigetsu's attention turned to Karin at the sound of Juugo's name.
"What?" He inquired, his voice turning steely.
"Yeah, they said they had to finish a 'reasearch project'." Karin continued, not noticing Suigetsu's murderous glare. "I believe they went to the library. They should be back soon, since the library closed a few hours ago."
Suigetsu always had a very creative imagination. A million of pictures formed in his mind...
...you weren't cheating on him with Juugo, right?
But you and Juugo always seemed to get along so well, compared to your and Suigetsu's constant bickering...
The sound of the door opening jolted Suigetsu from his musings. He dove onto the couch and pretended to be asleep.
A few minutes later, a loud thud and a moan from you woke him up.
"You okay?"
"Owww...It's okay, I'm good."
"You sure?"
"Oh yeah, the pain will be gone in a few minutes, this happens all the time, don't worry..."
Suigetsu had enough. He leaped over the sofa and dashed into the hall.
"What the hell are you two..." He trailed off. You and Juugo were fully clothed, with you sitting on the floor, cradling your foot.
"I stubbed my toe against the step and fell over."
Suigetsu breathed a sigh of relief, but tensed a little when Juugo offered you a hand up to a standing position.
"Sorry we're late," you continued. "We had to stop by a friend's house and get some extra materials for our research project."
"Oh," Suigetsu said, a bit miffed.
"Didn't Karin tell you that? We called the house to let you know, but Karin said you were sleeping...so we just asked her to tell you."
Suigetsu clenched his fists. Karin had told him no such thing.
"That bitch..."
"I'll go put this away," Juugo said to you, taking the materials for your project and going up the stairs to the study room.
The pain in your foot subsided and you reached up to ruffle Suigetsu's hair before you made your way to the couch. You tiredly plopped upon the sofa and leaned over to one side. The many hours working on that project wore you out.
A second weight was added to the sofa, and you opened your eyes to see Suigetsu hovering a few inches above you.
"Yes?"
"He...He didn't do anything right?"
"What?"
"He's not trying to take you away, right?" Suigetsu spat, pointing in the direction Juugo had gone.
"No, he didn't do anything," You reassured, "unless you call working on a project 'something'?"
Suigetsu's muscles relaxed.
"Why don't you like him, anyway?"
"Because he's retarded..."
"You are such a big baby sometimes..."
"Who do you like better?"
You laughed and gave him a small kiss on the cheek. "You of course, silly! Why, were you afraid that I would leave you?"
Your laughter continued until Suigetsu bit you on the cheek and stated: "You're mine, you know that?"
"Yes..."
"Good."
Feeling content, he let his head rest in your lap and demanded that your stroke his hair.
You sat there, feeling the silver (or is his hair color green?) locks in between your fingers, you couldn't help but break into a wide smile.
Suigetsu could be so sweet in his insecurities.
"No one but you, Sui-kun..."
