Adriana Adine stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her blue eyes look lifeless and tired. They began to fill with salty liquid and gradually began to overflow their structure, slowly trickling down her high cheekbones. She tried to hold back her tears but crying was the only way for her to release her pain. A sob escaped her pale pink lips and she rested her forehead against the cool surface of the mirror.
The day's events flashed through her mind faster then channels being changed on a television set. Images of the Vice President of Student Affairs filled her thoughts. Six simple words from the Dean echoed throughout the back of her mind over and over again. "You've been kicked out of Julliard." These self-explanatory words crushed Adriana's physiological core. Dancing was the only love she had left and within a matter of minutes, it was taken away from her just like that.
An aggravated sigh escaped her lips. She wanted noting more then to slam her fist against her reflection shattering the mirror into thousands of tiny pieces. She wanted the Dean to feel her frustration, she wanted the Dean to experience her pain, but what she really wanted was the Dean to understand her misfortunes.
The last few months had been nothing but hell. Her life had become an emotional roller coaster with more twists and turns imaginable. At the age of twenty, Adriana Adine had had more tribulations than anyone ever experiences in a lifetime. Life seemed to keep throwing her one obstacle after another- obstacles that only seemed to bring tragedy in the end.
Four months ago, her mother was killed in a tragic car accident. Naomi Adine's car skidded on a patch of black ice causing her vehicle to merge with oncoming traffic. Her black SUV collided head on with a semi. She died instantly.
The news of her mother's death crushed Adriana's being. Her heart went numb as if it had just been placed into a freezing cold ice chest. An icy sensation slowly made its way through her veins sending a chill down her spin. She seemed to suck in nothing but cold air as she gasped for breath but her lungs refused to let her breath. "Your mother's dead," were the only words that her conscious mind could grasp.
The news hit her hard as if she were a crane demolishing a rundown apartment building in the hood. Her exterior seemed to crumble like aged concrete breaking into small fragments of stone. Her mother was dead. Somehow the truth had become separate from reality. Adriana was alone.
She took in her image with clouded blue eyes and watched a lone tear fall down her cheek. She quickly wiped it away with the sleeve of her black leotard and heaved a heavy sigh. She leaned down, picked up her gym bag, and walked out the doors of the dance studio.
"So scared of getting older, I'm only good at being young."
