The butterflies that I haven't felt in over five years returned to me. That feeling of acceptance, reassurance, and affection crawled over my body once again.
I looked up at Jared when he pulled away. I smiled at him and he smiled back. It was the first time I've seen him smile in a long time. I almost forgot how amazing it was to see it.
"I think the food may be done," I laughed and turned around to take the sizzling pot off the stove. I heard Jared's footsteps go back to the table to sit down.
I served him some on a plate and placed it down in front of him. He said his thanks and I sat down with my plate.
"Will you ever give me a second chance?" I asked as I put a bite in my mouth.
"Yah, right now," he chewed his food and swallowed. "I have a feeling you won't hurt me again. You have changed. I can really tell." He smiled at me again.
"What does that mean though?"
Jared swallowed and took a sip of his soda. "It means we're dating again." He grinned and wiped his mouth.
"I've missed you, Jared. I have thought about you, you know." I said placing my drink down.
"I've thought about you too."
"Can I tell you something?"
"Yah? What is it?" He asked.
"My ex-boyfriend, Jakob. I think he's going to try to rape me. He called me this morning and yelled at me for running away. I heard him say 'I'll ge-' but I shut my phone before I could hear the rest. You do know that he raped all of his ex-girfriends and killed one of them right?"
"I won't let him hurt you. And yes, I know he did."
"Thank you, Jared."
"You're welcome, Remy."
"Well I'm heading up to bed." Jared said as he washed off his plate. "You're welcome to sleep in my bed if you'd like. I know how hard that mattress in the guest room is. Someone always complains the first morning their here." He turned toward me and smiled.
"Okay." I said as I got up and gave him a hug. "Thank you so much."
"You say that wayyyy too much lately." He walked up the stairs and soon disappeared.
I sat in the living room and watched T.V. until my eyes began to get droopy. I clicked off the T.V. and walked up the dark staircase. I grabbed my sweatshirt off of a desk in the guest room and walked into Jared's room. I looked at him as he slept. He was so motionless.
I lifted up the bedspred and slipped under. Jared shifted a little and turned toward me. His eyes opened and he let out a small yawn.
"Goodnight," he said as he closed his eyes again.
"Goodnight," I turned over and cuddled into his body. He draped his arm around my waist and I fell into a deep sleep.
