A wolf's cry
Chapter Two - Deadly Quiet reveals the protector
{On to!}
After awhile, Kagome lost track of how long she had been sitting in the cave. At least a week she figured. But why hadn't the gang come for her? Surely the forest wasn't that big, not to mention Inuyasha should be able to track her scent.
But still, day after day, she sat there or slept to pass the time. Kiowa didn't let her go anywhere, so she was forced to stay in the cave. The only time she was let out was when she needed to bath, but she had to do that in the pool that the waterfall fell into, with Kio guarding her to make sure she didn't run away. Kagome tried to once, but the demon was just as fast as Inuyasha, probably faster, so she didn't get very far. Not to mention she got her face shoved into the dirt.
She didn't even get 10 feet. And as punishment, she didnt get dinner that night.
When Kiowa was gone, the wolf watched. Kio never let her out of his sight, even though she often lost sight of the wolf when he hid into the shadows of the cave.
The first day, she thought he wasn't there and tried to leave. That only ended up with the wolf appearing and backing her into the corner once more.
But this day was different. Kiowa had been tense since this morning.
It all begin as usual. Kiowa had gone to hunt before she had even woke up. She awoke to the fire crackling, the smell of meat being cooked. Luckily, Kiowa did not seem to thrive on just meat, despite the fact that she seemed to be some sort of canine demon, she got berries and edible plants as well. Inuyasha preferred to eat just meat, with the exception of ramen that Kagome brought from her time.
Anyways, Kiowa was cooking the meat for Kagome, since she liked hers raw, when suddenly the air went still. She and the wolf stiffed, and Kiowa immediately inhaled, taking in the scent of what ever had arrived. After five minutes, the stench that had been so powerful that Kagome could smell it, disappeared as suddenly as it came. Ever since then, Kiowa had been on her toes, very edgy with anything that moved. Now, over the days that she had been held hostage, Kagome noted that the female demon had quite a mild temperament, and was quite reasonable with her.
Now, Kiowa snapped at Kagome more than once today.
Kagome had felt that presence before, but she couldn't quite remember who it was. But it worried her, what about Inuyasha and the others? She glanced over at Kiowa, who was standing at the edge of the cave, looking out. Her dark brown eyes stared out over the forest, the hue of purple glinting and her long dark brown hair had been pulled back by a simple leather tie, the blue tints reflecting from the sun. Out of all the time Kagome had been there, she had never seen Kiowa with her hair down. It was always held up by a hair tie, usually leather.
Suddenly, the air went cold. The cool breeze suddenly stilled, and even the birds stopped chirping. A eerie silence fell over the forest, and goose bumps raised up on Kagome's back. She remembered now. Only Naraku's aura could install such fear in her.
"Kagome." She looked up in surprise at Kiowa, who stilled stared straight out over the forest, only her eyes narrowed in a glare. But what surprised Kagome, was she actually used her name. Over the days, she was just referred to as 'girl' or 'human'.
"You must listen carefully. Stay with Kio, he will protect you. I suggest you try not to run, for I will not be able to guarantee your safety. Afterwards...." Kagome saw her hesitate, "..I will take you back to your friends."
Kagome smiled. "Thank you." She whispered. Kiowa walked over and ruffled her hair affectionately. "No, thank you. You taught me what I forgot."
Before Kagome could question her, Kiowa smiled briefly at her.
'She's a lot more beautiful when she smiles.'
"Kaguya, I suggest you come out right now." Kiowa said flatly, her voice now void of emotion as she turned back to the opening. The waterfall parted, and the deadly but beautiful Kaguya walked through, a malicious grin on her pale face.
"Ah...Kiowa Adzuki....what a pleasure..." She purred. Kio stepped forward out of the shadows, standing in front of Kagome and growling.
"Hardly." Kiowa replied dryly. "Now state your business."
Kaguya chuckled. "So hospitable. Oh well, Master Naruku warned me that you wouldn't welcoming me with open arms."
Kiowa's lips bared back into a snarl, fangs gleaming. "Tell your master that the day I welcome him or any of his kind with open arms is the day he doesn't destroy peoples lives!"
Before any one could do anything, Kiowa lifted her arm into the air and yelled, "Razor streams!"
Kagome watched in amazement as a sudden wind filled in cave, whipping around towards Kiowa. The wind constricted to her upraised hand into a circle, spinning so fast that it was deadly. With a cry, Kiowa lunged at the surprised Kaguya with the bladed wind in her hand.
But snapping out of her surprised trance, Kaguya attacked as well, and the explosion knocked both demons out of the cave, making Kagome cry out.
"Kiowa!"
{Which one of you can guess what type of demon Kiowa is?}
Next time on "A wolf's cry"...
