I got back into my Skyline. "Well, whos coming then?" I asked while starting the engine. They all walked to the car. Henry and Mia scooted into the backseat before Cameron took shotgun.
Ten minutes into the drive we were all arguing about where the Mustang was located. Cameron was acting rash and Henry looked damn right volatile because of it.
"Look! You see that sign? It says Ridge Fir circle. It will not turn into Nyberg road!" Henry shouted from the backseat into Cams ear.
Cameron took a deep breath and I could hear him grinding his teeth as he turned in his seat and yelled back at Henry, "I dont need you to tell me, to tell Sage where to go!"
"Will you nimrods stop bickering!" Mia huffed and I could see in the rear view mirror her nostrils flaring at the twos ignorance. "If Sage just takes a left at this next intersection well find it." Mia finished fairly annoyed and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Hey, hey, hey! Mias right. Look over there," I said, pulling over to the curb of the road and pointing to a rather charming looking apartment complex.
"Jeez. Who the hell owns that car, anyway?" Cameron said shockingly, as he looked out the window to the complex, which looked more like a four star hotel from the outside.
"I dont know and I think its better if we kept it that way." I whispered, as I turned of the engine and got out deciding to take a closer look at the parking garage.
There was a sliding gate, which appeared to only open to a password being punched into a keypad, there was one camera pointing at the entrance and another inside. It looked like there was a guard posted on the inside, within an alcove. I walked around the other side of the parking garage and took pictures with my camera phone. I sent the pictures to my email and than legged it back to my car.
"Well?" Asked Henry.
I rolled over the engine as quickly as possible. "Its rigged with camera, a security guard, and a password protected entry keypad." I told him as I drove back to the mechanic garage.
When we got back we settled into our chairs and started to hatch out a plan. Boosting a car, especially a vintage Mustang from a place like that would test what we were capable of. To say it was a challenge for the four of us would be the understatement of the year.
Mia pulled a notebook and pen off one of shelves and handed it to me. I grabbed a frayed rag and wiped the engine oil off the pen and flipped to a clean page in the note pad. I started to scribble some information down, in fear I would most likely forget the details.
After about four minutes Henry brought it upon himself to break the silence. "Sage, do you remember Jay? Im not sure what you think, but Im not sure the four of us can pull this off without someone who knows the techy stuff. I think I can get him on board with us."
I looked up from the little notes I was hurriedly writing down about the heist. "Yeah, thatll work. I think well need an extra man. Otherwise I dont know how Ill get into that garage and get out with the car unnoticed." I told him as I leaned back in my chair and stretched my achy upper body.
"Its nearly eleven. I think we should pack up and meet back here tomorrow morning." Cameron said, getting up from the table and scooting his chair giving us all an earful of screeches.
"Cams right. Ill see yall tomorrow." Mia said, looking at all of us tiredly.
We said our goodbyes and I waited for Mia to lock up the garage and get into her car before I left. I had a habit of being a little protective and making sure everyone was safe.
I got home and went straight to my room. I didnt think I could bear facing my mom knowing I was doing things, which were illegal behind her back. If she found out, it would surely give her a coronary. It was at that precise moment I realized I wasnt entirely sure I could pull of jacking a car. I couldnt help thinking things like, "Im only seventeen. Will I be able to handle the consequence of jail if Im caught?" The whole ordeal flew through my head that night. Racing in large groups was fine by me even if it was illegal, but stealing a vintage RB25 Mustang for a notorious familys son? That was an entirely different and un-natural situation I had never even considered doing before.
It was all just too much to think about in one night.
The next thing I knew my alarm had started beeping incessantly. Signaling the inevitable. I groped around trying to find the 'snooze' button that would put a stop to the cruel and irksome noise. That morning I followed my normal routine-wake up, shower, and dress. I walked by the kitchen and saw my mom sitting at the table with a letter in her hands.
"Mom?" I said, trying to catch her attention.
She looked up from the letter and asked, "What's this about?"
I looked at her oddly before replying, "What do you mean?"
"This letter is addressed to you from the police station. A detective Tanner more specifically," she told me whiled sliding the letter across the table towards where I stood.
"Oh. You know it must be a thank you letter for all that money I helped collect for the injured policemen drive," I lied.
I hated not telling my mom the truth, but if I had said "I don't know" or "Nothing" she would have opened the dang thing herself. Whether or not it was illegal made no never mind to her in a case like this. It was just a guess, but detective Tanners letter was most likely pertaining to my shifty racing record he had no doubtedly uncovered by using undercover informants or most commonly know to the racing world as "moles". Cops can be coning even in stupid uniforms (or in this case civy clothes) I folded the envelope and shoved it into my back jeans pocket to read at a latter time.
"I'm going to go out for a bit but I'll be back." I said, as I searched for my keys on the kitchen tables "bowl of everything from keys to watches to rings". I watched a look of sheer joy pass over my mothers face. I knew what she was thinking- "My daughter is going to be a valedictorian when she graduates!" And that was just a load of crap, but why spoil her cheerful thoughts?
"Okay then. Be careful please. I'll be out for the day as well, with Linda." She said happily, picking up her purse and walking me out the door.
I arrived at the auto shop earlier than I thought I would. However, Mia and Cam were already there. This came as a no surprise to me because Cam was about as unpredictable when it came to timing as I was when it came to racing.
"Hey." I said and greeted the two with a hand-slap-shake of sorts.
"Hey." They said in unison.
We chatted for a while about random tools and techniques and life in general while we played cards. I quit after I had lost two games in a row and went to print off the pictures I sent to my email the night before.
"How f*ckin' long does it take for Henry to grab Jay and get their asses over here?" Mia asked, in a slightly distraught tone.
"I swear that kid doesn't know the meaning of punctuality." Cameron said as he put the cards away.
"Um Cam, do you even know the definition of punctual?" I asked, from the back of the shop as I collected the disheveled papers, which had been flying out of the printer like a child with food poisoning.
"Well, why wouldn't I? I'm not a dunce." He said, in a matter-of-factly tone.
"You're grades might say otherwise." Mia nearly snorted out, laughing at her 'B rated burn'
