Not a soul ever really came to comprehend how she came to dwell in his fortress. Not a soul ever really knew why He kept her either. They reassured themselves that she was merely a token -- one of flesh, and everything He claimed He had overcome. They all had their weaknesses, right? Even Him... In such thoughts, they found reassurance. They made themselves believe she was in no way a threat.
This was the first time... The first war. This was when all of those who dwelled in shadows had hope. And no one foresaw his demise.

Alexandria had been there ever since any of them could remember. She had come in with Him, dangling from his arm and wrapped in expensive black lace. No one had seen head or tail of her before then -- neither during any of the meetings nor during the many dinners they had shared at the Lord's house.
There had always been rumors, though. He was strong, but some knew that all humans were meant to waver at some point or another. The gossips let their lips move at rapid paces, filling others with ideas. Some said Thomas had found a Muggle girl and molded her into what he had wanted. Meanwhile, others claimed she was a girl that Thomas had loved during his school years. Or, some countered, she was just a simple witch -- an ordinary Pureblood that Thomas was infatuated with. Riddle never gave way to the truth, however.
The rumors failed to bother him and Alexandria kept her mouth closed, like he had instructed her. All anyone really knew was that she was stunning... And completely his.
All anyone knew was how much they would come to regret the time that was wasted upon her. For, years later, many would blame her for their own fated downfall. Their sins would weigh heavy on her shoulders.

This is the first installment of my new mini-series, Achieving Freedom. It's more of a prologue than anything really... But, I hope you all can see the foreshadowing. I'm really excited for this series!
