English went by much faster than I had hoped it would. At the end of the period, I gathered up my books and smiled at Elle as I stood.
"Thank you for letting me use your book, Raychel," she said quietly.
"Any time," I replied, leaving the room to see Maggie waiting for me.
As Elle smiled at me and walked in the opposite direction of Maggie and I, Maggie stared at her, then turned to me.
"Was that one of them?" she nearly yelled.
"Shh," I said, supressing a giggle. "Yeah, her name is Elle Hart. She sits beside me."
"She's pretty," Maggie replied, sounding as if she was forcing out the compliment. She wasn't very familiar with not being the prettiest girl in school. I'm sure this would be an interesting twist in the daily high school drama.
"She's really nice," I said back, opening my locker. I threw my books onto the shelf and pulled out my wallet, sticking it into my pocket.
Maggie didn't reply, instead she just looked in the direction that Elle had walked in, waiting for me. Once I was done, I nudged her slightly, and we headed down to the cafeteria. Walking through the doors to the cafe, we went straight for the growing line to get food. We didn't speak as we both took caesar salads and a bottle of Dr. Pepper. We paid for our food, and when we turned around, Maggie stopped dead in her tracks.
"What?" I asked, walking to stand beside her.
"Is that them?" she asked, gaping at two boys who sat down with the blonde girl I had just been sitting beside.
"I think so," I replied, unable to stop myself from staring at them too. "Let's go sit."
I nudged past her and smiled at Elle as I walked by. I made my way to our regular table and sat down, moving over slightly as Maggie sat beside me. Right away some of the girls started chatting about the new students, and Maggie's attention was torn from staring at them, to talking about them. I sighed and rolled my eyes as I rested my head on my hand, trying to make myself look as involved in the conversation as I could.
I just couldn't help but look over at the family of three, sitting not two tables away from me.
Two of them had very light blonde hair. Elle and one of the boys. The blonde boy looked an awful lot like Elle. Probably twins. Then the other boy had very dark, messy brown hair, which was the only thing about him that made him different than the other two. They all had the same pale skin and absolutely beautiful faces.
As I was thinking to myself, the brown haired boy looked past Elle to me. As he looked at me, I could feel my face growing hot. Normally, I would have looked away by now and just told myself he was looking at someone else around me, but not this time. I could tell he was looking at me. It was the way his ice blue eyes locked onto mine. I just couldn't look away.
It wasn't until Elle waved a hand in front of his face, then looked in the direction he had been looking that I was finally able to break away from his captive stare. I looked up again quickly and noticed Elle looking at me, flashing me a quick smirk before turning back to her brothers. I knew my face was probably really red, so I quickly finished my salad and said bye to Maggie and the other girls before picking up my tray to leave the cafe. I threw out the garbage from my lunch and set the tray on top of the pile, then headed out into the hallway, toward my locker.
Once at my locker, I opened the door, and grabbed my science textbook and iPod, then shut the door again. I turned to my right and let out a squeal as a tall boy stood in front of me. I put my hand on my chest and took a deep breath, then attempted to glare at the angel with messy brown hair from the cafe, in front of me.
"Y-you didn't have to scare me like that," I mumbled.
"I'm sorry," he replied, a smirk playing on his lips. "You're Raychel, right?"
I looked at him for a second then nodded. "I am."
"Nice to meet you, Raychel," he said, holding out his hand. "I'm Aiden Hart."
I moved my hand from my chest to his hand, timidly placing it against his surprisingly cold skin.
"Elle told me you're in my english class, so I figured I may as well introduce myself," Aiden said, smiling politely at me.
"Oh," I said, glancing at my watch as a bell rang in the halls. "Um, I don't mean to sound rude, but I really have to get to my next class."
"What do you have?"
"Uh.. art," I replied, looking at him awkwardly.
He flashed his white teeth at me and said, "Awesome, me too! Would you mind waiting for me? I'm not sure where to go."
"Oh, well, I suppose," I said, looking down. "Where's your locker?"
"Just over here," Aiden said, turning to point down the hall. I nodded and he dashed toward it as I walked quickly after him. By the time I caught up with him, he had already opened it, got his things and closed it again. I smiled at him as I continued walking toward the art room.
Once in the room, I took my seat at one of the large tables, Aiden sitting down beside me. I ran my fingers nervously through my hair as he silently looked around the room, watching the kids that slowly came in, each of them staring stupidly at him.
"So, where did you move from?" I asked, trying to start a conversation with him.
"New York City," he replied, smiling again. "I'm guessing you've lived here your whole life?"
I nodded and bit my lip. "How can you tell?"
"I can't really," he said. "Just a guess."
I laughed quietly and turned to look at him, surprised to see him looking right back at me. I could tell I was starting to blush because he started smirking, so I quickly tore my eyes from his, opening my sketch pad in front of me.
As I tried to let my hair fall in front of my face, I could hear him chuckle, causing me to blush more.
