Chapter 3:
Her

"Before you break your silence, before we tear this open, we'll count the dead and hopeless, for every word unspoken." You nodded your head to the music blasting in your ears. You were running early today and decided to take your time getting to school. Amaya and Yumi couldn't even be out of bed yet, they would have met up with you by now. 'Lazy butts...'
When you got to the school, you were half surprised to see the grounds empty, half not surprised. Who in their right mind would come to school early anyways? It was a rhetorical question of course. The halls were deserted as well. Now you were beginning to wonder if it was another scene from a horror movie. Now you just had to remember whether it was the brains or the beauty that survived. Now that was a good question.
Opening the door to your classroom, you stopped dead. The class was full, in the middle of a lesson, and everyone was staring at you. But weren't you early? "Oh, Ms. Hitogokoro, you're late. Take your seat." You blinked at your female teacher and brought your watch up to look at it. It sat still at 7:15 AM... the same time you had left home at.
Your shoulders drooped down as you took your seat near the middle of the class. It figures you'd be late. It explained everything. That's why Yumi and Amaya hadn't met up with you that morning. You dropped your bag onto the ground and pulled out your books before you chanced looking at the clock. Only an hour late, huh? Not that bad then. Though if you had of known you were late, you would've stayed home.
Literacy was so boring. You weren't incredible at it either. Who in the world would want to make a living writing essays for somebody? It was a pity you had to take the course. You would have easily chosen something else over it any day. Like Computers... now that was a good course. Hmm, computers, now you'd really love to have yours on hand. Instead of listening to the teacher's tiring lecture, you could be surfing the net while pretending to be taking notes. That would be very fun at the moment. Until then, you had to wait for the next class and lunch for a reprieve.
Oh how you couldn't wait for lunch. You had bought a sandwich on the way to school and stuffed it in your bag along with a bottle of juice. Yes, yes, it'd be a very nice lunch indeed. Better than your normal packed lunch. You sighed. The woman's lecture was getting overly boring. You focused your attention out the window, watching the gym class below. Gym would even be better than Literacy right now. As you watched, a sudden chill washed your body, and you snapped back to your notebook to take notes. It was creepy when a wave of goose bumps covered your skin, and focusing on something else would hopefully make it go away.
~+~+~

You sat on the back school steps with Yumi and Amaya. Finally you could eat something! You were starving, and the last half of your sandwich that you hadn't already eaten was looking mighty delightful right about now. That was until you felt a hard kick to your lower back. You yelped and flew into the dirt head first, not only getting dusty, but aching too. Snapping up and glaring, your eyes met dark purple ones. "You twat! What was that for?" Ah yes, cursing was lovely at the moment.
Rubbing the back of your head in annoyance, you watched the girl bend down and grasp your untouched half of your sandwich and take a large bite out of it. "Hey! Dont touch my food!" Your food was God when it came to your day, you weren't just gonna let her eat it. Oh no, you'd get it back and she'd pay for taking the bite from it. You'd make sure of that.
Amaya and Yumi looked very confused. You were just pissed. How dare she touch your food? It came out of your allowance! She was smirking too. "Don't worry so much about your food, cousin dear." 'Dear'...? Now that was just pushing buttons. She was not being very smart today. Well, other than the fact she managed to sneak up on you.
You glared at her, still on the ground. She seemed to find it very amusing. Then again, you weren't best at glaring. "Hey Etsu, who is this girl? Do you know her?" Yumi blinked at you, completely lost. Amaya was waiting for an answer too. You had to admit, to anyone who didn't know what was going on, the anti-social and the new girl interacting would look pretty strange.
"Yeah..." You stood up again, drooping your head. Snapping it up, you glared coldly at the girl. "She's the girl that's eating my lunch!" You pointed at her, trying to get the message across. You huffed and dropped your arm, staring at the black haired girl for a moment. She seemed to find what you said stupid and boring. Well, it was kind of obvious. But you wanted to avoid answering Yumi's question and it was the best you could come up with.
"What are you doing here anyways, Noz... Did something happen?" When she turned away with a cold look on her face, you knew the answer was 'yes.' Nozomi just wouldn't say anything in front of other people. You could relate. If it was something bad or embarrassing you wouldn't want to say something in front of other people either.
You began running possibilities as to why she was in Karakura at all. The thoughts didn't process very fast, and you brought your finger up to your lip to buy time to think with one hand on your hip. Though when you saw your dearest cousin take another huge bite out of your food, it distracted you completely. "What the heck! Stop that!" You pointed at her again and scowled as she stole your spot between your friends. Now you had no where to sit either. It was then you spotted her wrapped up wrist and got an evil idea. "How'd you get the sprained wrist Noz?" It was her turn to glare. "Did you get in a fight?"
Now you understood why Nozomi liked to piss you off. The result was rather funny. "Did someone have to save you?" A look of realization hit her and she smiled before she stuffed the last bite of your sandwich into her mouth evilly. You just stared at her with your mouth slightly open. 'How could she be so cruel?!' "You know... you could saved me some..." You were about ready to kick her in the ass when she picked your drink up too. At least she didn't get to drink any of it before some pink haired girl tackled her from behind. Now she knew how it felt! The two went tumbling down onto the ground like you had before.
Only now did you realize that your drink went everywhere. "Now I don't have a drink!" Yeah, as if you'd have had one if Noz had managed to get a hold of it. You looked at the empty bottle, ready to whack Noz over the head with it. "You're a real dope Noz." You sighed and stretched. Your next class was the one you hated and the only one you were managing to fail. "Well, I might as well head over to Social Studies I've got nothing to eat now." You started walking for the stairs when Noz stood up too.
"I'll walk with you." You blinked at her as she turned to start walking into the school. When she realized you weren't walking too, she stopped and turned around. "What?" What did she mean 'what?' Why the hell would she walk with you? She wasn't in your class, was she? You didn't remember seeing her there.
You pointed at her for the third time today. "You have Social Studies too?" She stared at you for a minute before looking at you with a bored expression as if you were dumb. The look was highly unnecessary though. You just weren't that observant was all. If she had been in your class for a week now you probably wouldn't have noticed. You didn't really bother to take the time to know who was in your class.
"We're in the same class Etsu" You gave a small 'oh' and started following her, racing towards the doors so that she couldn't walk in first and decide to lock you out. Your hand touched the door handle, but you hadn't even heard her take a step yet. She was either tricking you, or she really was staying put. You couldn't decide whether it was smart to look back or to keep going.
You turned your head and saw Noz staring at something far off. As far as you could see, there was nothing there at all. "What're you looking at Nozomi?" She blinked and came back to reality, shaking her head 'no' for an answer. It wasn't really an answer that most people would accept, but you weren't most people. Shaking her head like that meant 'nothing' not 'no'. In this situation at least.
You shrugged and walked into the school, the pink haired girl that had knocked Nozomi over earlier trying to start a conversation with you. "Hi, I'm Kei. What's your name?" You answered with your name and only your name. A simple 'Etsu' and she should get the picture that you didn't want to talk, right? "That's cool. How do you know Nozomi?" You shrugged your shoulders, yet another attempt to make her go away. "Really, you don't know? Well that's dumb. What kind of music do you listen to?" Did she ever shut up?
You sighed, answering with a 'lots' hoping to high Hell she'd stop talking. Nope, didn't work. "What's your favourite movie?" Thank your sanity the classroom was in sight. She'd have to shut up in there. You rushed forward and grabbed the door, opening it. You could hear Nozomi laugh behind you and sighed again.
You rushed to your seat while Kei and Nozomi were introduced to the class. You stared out the window the whole time. This class had to be the least fun. But hey, housewives have their duties! "Ms. Hitohana, you can sit next to Ms. Hitogokoro there. You two seem to get along nicely." Get along nicely? With pinky?! Yeah right!! Someone was hexing you for sure.
All you could do was twitch your eye at the teacher. Oh how cruel he was! How very, very evil! How- "Wow, I guess we're sitting beside each other for the rest of the year huh? That's good. So what's your favourite movie?" You groaned and hit your head off the desk. It would be a long day indeed. And you'd starve all through it.
You turned your head away from the babbling Kei. She was growing very annoying. What you saw next shocked you. You had never noticed before either. You were staring at Uryu Ishida, not two rows from you. You really never knew he was in your class. Well, that just topped off your day. Now you could make a fool of yourself in front of the person you had asked for help. And in the class you needed help with too.
~+~+~

After realizing that Kei would just keep on talking you had tried your hardest to block her out. It wasn't very easy either. But now, now you were gathering your stuff up to go home. And on the way, you'd grab a bite to eat. 'Damn Nozomi' You sighed again, a new found habit. Slinging your bag over your shoulder, you trekked off towards the school's gate. Kei had left long before you had, so thankfully you wouldn't have her follow you home. That would be horrible.
In fact anybody following you home would be beyond creepy. What kind of person does that? Oh yes, murderers and rapists. Was this a good thing to think about when walking on the back roads all alone? You grimaced and looked behind you for any sign of someone following you. There was no one there, so you shouldn't feel so paranoid. But then again the murderers were always good at stalking too. 'Dammit, Etsu... stop thinking!'
You grabbed your headphones and decided to blare your music to keep your mind off of your new found paranoia. "Before you break your silence, before we tear this open, we'll count the dead and hopeless, for every word unspoken." You hummed along with the music. Demon Hunter was your favourite band at the current moment.
"...We'll count the dead and hopeless, for every word unspoken..." If someone were close enough they'd hear your music loud and clear. Especially the parts you liked to say out loud. You began to get goose bumps again and got paranoid. What if someone was following you? You felt a tap on your shoulder, almost jumping into the air but instead shrinking down and away from whoever had touched you.
Turning and pulling on your headphones, you spotted Uryu staring at you. "Oh, Ishida-san, you scared me!" He could probably tell. There was no way you didn't scream at least a little. Was there really a need to be formal with a classmate? Your headphones still played the screaming band. You turned it off out of embarrassment. "Um...?"
You began to get uneasy. Uryu had blown you off the other day, so what did he want? Revenge for the way Yumi acted? You hoped not. He reached up to fix his glasses, his school bag in his other hand. "You needed help, right?" You answered with a dumb look and a 'huh?' You needed many types of help, that was for sure. What was he talking about? "With your sewing. You asked for my help, did you not?" Well, what a weird place to talk about it. If it were a different circumstance, you may be less creeped out by his sudden appearance.
"Oh, um, yeah I did. Why?" You were starting to creep yourself out again. What if Uryu was some secret mass murderer who stalked teenage girls and killed them? Now that... was just silly. But it was a thought. It was always the nerds who turned out demented after all. Wait... weren't you a nerd? 'Off topic...'
"I'll be willing to lend a hand. You appear to have caught my interest." Well, you understood the helping out part. But 'caught his interest'? What did he mean by that? You blinked at him confused, giving him a small 'ok' before he walked around you and off into the deserted streets. Well, that was awful weird.
You decided to keep your headphones off in case any more stalkers decided to show up. It would be your luck. It was Nozomi's luck too after all, and she ran into a pervert only the day before. "Etsu?" You froze for a second before turning around slowly. There behind you was Noz with a guitar in her hands. Oh perfect. The girl who had eaten your only food was now keeping you from more food. "Where are you going?" You watched her for a moment before glaring at the road you had been walking along.
"I'm going to get food." 'Since you ate mine...' You wondered if it was smart to say that. She suddenly perked up as if she wanted you to say that. Oh great. She offered to get you some food at some café that you had never heard of. Then again, you hadn't heard of many places. You needed to get out more. You just agreed with her. She was going to buy for you after all. It would make up for her stealing your lunch, and you'd be mighty happy to order a meal. Uryu may have disturbed you a little bit, but as long as you were getting food, you'd be happy to accompany Nozomi.

Before you could mutter a word, you felt like something heavy suddenly weighed on your shoulders. You could feel your face pale and your fingertips turn cold before your stomach lurched.
As you reached the end of the hallway, you were almost hit by Nozomi's body as it flew into the wall.
You honestly didn't know any 'cute' boys that would be bothered to bring you home if you passed out in a public place. And who the hell would do that out of sheer kindness? It was just dumb.

Now, for your own good people, please go to Lp's chapter as well. And I know if you do or not. We've been patient. We've been nice. Do it for the sake of your own knowledge.
