Oh, I'm going to feel bad for her friend Midori in this chapter. This chapter is also very short. Well, is short to me. I don't really like the layout.
I didn't edit this story real good so I might have gone comma crazy.
Midori who?
She always smiled. No matter what happened to her in her life she always kept that cheerful smile. When ever she smiled at me it would make me wonder. It worried me. What was behind that smile? Sadness, sorrow, or anger? What could it be?
I've asked her plenty of times, but she'd just object to all those accusations which would cause her to get angry at me. Was I doing a horrible job as father since she left?
The sound of footsteps were heard from the nearby stairs. "Morning! I'm going to be late for school. I might be out late since I'll be at the library with Midori-chan!" She hurried to me and gave me a quick peck on the cheek. "You better hurry too dad or you'll be late for work."
"Have a good day! Good-" But she already slammed the door behind her before I finished. "-bye."
I am a father. I'm suppose to worry. Even though I didn't know what she was hiding behind that smile, it brought me utter sadness.
"Hurry up Amaya." A black haired girl called with her hands forming a megaphone around her mouth. "We're going to be late for class."
"I'm coming. I'm coming." I told her not really caring anymore if I'm late. "You're such a nerd Midori."
She sent me a death glare and began power walking towards our classroom. "I care about getting into a good college, unlike you."
"I care," I protested. "Just not today."
She just rolled her eyes and took hear seat next to me in the back of the class room. We chatted some more like everyone else in the class until the teacher came into the room holding a book. Like every other day, Midori and I just kept chatting away to each other making sure the teacher didn't hear us.
The day went by quickly and school was almost out. That was mostly because I kept tuning out all the teachers and kept talking to my friends which was odd since I always listened to them.
Then there came a certain subject. Midori, who was also next to me in this, hushed up knowing that I would listen to the teacher. I usually payed attention to the him when he started talking about God, but not today. I could care less about that subject now.
"Mrs. Suzuki," the teacher called, "please read the following line from your book in Japanese."
I stared down at my book in confusion. I hadn't even opened it, unlike Midori. Opening to the page we were on, I stared down once again at the book in confusion. I had no idea where we were. Midori usually helped me, but not today.
He stared at me with a frown, "Were you paying attention?"
"Yes. But I forgot where we were." I lied, he obviously knew that. I'm such a terrible liar.
He shook his head and turned to face another student. Hopefully this person was actually paying attention.
"What's with you today?" Midori asked with concern in her voice. "You usually pay attention."
"I'm fine. I'm just out of it today. Don't worry." I assured her turning to read the book. When ever I heard a certain voice reading the line from the book, my tilted my head up to look at him.
Light Yagami.
He was probably perfection himself. Good looks, good grades, and more. All the girls wanted to get with him. I didn't care about that though. I admired him. He finished reading the sentence, flawlessly I might add, and sat back down.
'Hope he doesn't notice I'm staring at him.' I thought. I'd be extremely embarrassed.
As if he read my mind, he turned his head and stared right back at me. I quickly averted his gaze and pretended to read the book. My cheeks turned red with embarrassment. Ah, my thoughts came true. He probably thinks I'm another one of his fan girls.
Midori giggled in amusement and said, "Saw you staring at Light-san. I think little Amaya-chan has a crush."
"In your dreams." I scoffed, deciding to ignore her for the rest of the class. Some thing caught my attention from outside the window, but I only caught a glimpse of it since I was I was in the third row.
'Probably a bird.' I guessed resting my chin in the palm of my hand.
School ended and I was currently being interrogated by my best friend. We were at her house and I was waiting outside her bathroom waiting for her to get ready.
"That's not it all Midori!" I protested ready to punch her in the face. She's been accusing me of liking Light Yagami since class. It has really gotten annoying.
"Liar. It's okay. You can tell me, I can keep your secret."
In an attempt to change the subject, I commented her about her looks. She was just like any other girl who worried about looks. "You know Midori, you look like your around twenty. You look like a beautiful twenty year-old."
She bursted out of the bathroom with stars in her eyes. Her hands clasped together near her face delighted by what I had just said. "Really?! I've always wanted to look older!"
"Doesn't everybody..." I muttered under my breath. Another subject change would be nice before she gets into another one of her beauty discussions. "Are you ready to go?"
Nodding, she grabbed her jacket and purse then we headed out. We both found some really good books at the library. What surprised me at the library was that she was always so different outside of school. It's not like she's pretending to be someone she's not at school, she's outgoing and bubbly at school. But when we're outside she's so much more calmer.
"What book did you check out?" I asked curiously. I wasn't with her when we were in the library. We have different tastes in books, and I usually like to be alone when I look for books.
She grabbed the book from her bag and showed me. "This one. I love adventure and romance books."
"You're such a hopeless romantic."
"Am not."
I raised my eye brow at her and smiled lightly ready to laugh.
"Okay, maybe a little." she confessed putting away her book. "Want me to carry your books?" She asked since I hadn't brought anything to carry my books in.
"It's alright I can carry them. My bus stop is just around the corner anyway." I told her crossing the street. "Be careful!"
"Geez. I'm not a little kid, Amaya!" she shouted back.
"Sometimes I wonder..."
She ignored my comment and continued walking. I chuckled to myself with pleasure. Midori doesn't really like it when people treat her like a kid, or she'll snap at the person even if they don't mean to. It made me remember how she use to be so shy when we were little and hanging out with me brought her out of her shell. But with her more outgoing she always got us into trouble. Then my mother always got us out of that trouble...
My eyes fell as I stood next to the bus sign. The street was empty, except for the few cars that would pass by. The smile was gone for now. I fought back a few tears when four guys on motorcycles. My back was turned to them, so they couldnt see me. A few seconds had passed when they had passed and I heard barely audible cries.
"Take of her clothes!"
"No! Stop!"
"That sounded like Midori!" I spoke out loud already heading towards the directions those bikers went. Even though I was a fast runner it felt like I was running slower than ever when I finally reached them.
They were hold her with a pipe at her neck. She struggled to keep them from unbuckling her belt. I tapped the shoulder of the guy who was trying to pull down her pants. He turned around obviously annoyed. He didn't get a clear look at me since I punched him right on the nose.
'I'm lucky I know how to fight, but I don't think I stand a chance against all these guys.' I doubted kneeing the guy in the stomach. 'Damn, this guy can still stand up. He probably already been in tons of fights!'
The other three turned the attention towards me, surprised that I had shown up. The leader of the group was focused on me that he wasn't holding the pipe right, which gave Midori the perfect time to escape.
"Run Midori!" She didn't need to be asked twice. She got out of his grasp and ran down the street. The man quickly followed behind her on his bike, completely unaware of the truck down the street.
"Taku! Watch out!" one of the guys warned.
Everyone one of was stared wide eyed at the scene before us. The man was hit. There couldn't have been any possible way the driver could have avoided him. It took me moments before I could regain my thoughts. I ran across the street and aided Midori who had fallen on the sidewalk and gawked at the street trembling.
"Are alright?" I asked trying to remain calm, but my voice cracked. Nobody can remain calm in this type of situation.
Second passed before she could answer, "T-That... could've b-been me too...Amaya." She said in a low shaky voice.
"Taku!"
"T-That idiot!"
"He just dove right in front of it!"
They spoke when one of them had let out a scream. The police came and asked Midori and me questions. The other bikers had left seconds before the police came. They drove us both home, but before I stepped out of the car I gave Midori a quick hug.
"I'll be in my room. Night." I told my dad quickly before he could even say hello. I walked passed the living room and towards the stairs.
'I hope she'll be okay...'
I kept thinking about the whole event over and over. What also bothered me was when ever I saw a someone walk out of the store where the thing had taken place. Light Yagami. He seemed trouble. I mean who wouldn't be, but...far more than troubled.
'Wonder what's botherin' him.'
A yawn escaped my lips, time to go to sleep. I grabbed some clothes to sleep in from my closet and quickly changed. Another yawn escaped from my lips. I got under the covers, snuggling deeper into my pillow. My bed has never felt so comfy. Turning to my side I flashed a great big smile to the picture that was on my night stand.
"'Night mom."
When will Amaya show her true feelings?
I love it when I put the layout code in the results just to have the background white. =D
Oh right.
What is wrong with Mr. Yagami? Will Midori be all right? When will L make his appearance?
I personally don't care about Midori because she's not my friend! >=[ I'm a heartless person from now on! [Lie]
