All through class you felt dizzy. You sat with your head down and barely paid attention. The only thing that you caught was that there was a test in the next week that was important. You couldn't really hear anything else. You were too focused on not giving up your small breakfast that was so cosily in your stomach. You wish you had brought your headphones now. It would be much easier to ignore the chatter around you with them on. Then again, you'd also get in trouble for not listening to the damned teacher. You seemed to be in a lose/lose situation.
You sighed and lifted your head slowly. When you saw that you had missed a whole note, you groaned. This day was not going good at all. Now you almost wished you had stayed home that morning. But you just couldn't miss school, now could you?
You focused on breathing slowly while you tried to read the note on the board. It wasn't anything you didn't already know. You were lucky there. You supposed in the rest of your classes you should pay attention to what's going on. It would be better for you than to have to catch up later.
You felt a poke on your shoulder and slowly turned. Amaya sat behind you in this class. "Hey Etsu, did you get that note? I need to borrow it later." You half closed your eyes at her. Did it look like you got the note down? You could probably hold Amaya's sensibility to a pixie-stick's.
You only shook your head at her. She seemed defeated for a moment before she looked more curious. "Hey Etsu, you ok? You're pale..." You just nodded at her. You didn't feel like striking up a conversation with anybody at the moment. Especially when the teacher was already throwing you dirty looks for talking. And you did not need to listen to the rambling on about how you should be paying attention in class.
When the bell rang for lunch you were glad. It hurt your head, but you were free of classes for the time being. You felt tired and wondered if you could chance napping or not. If you slept, you weren't sure if your friends would wake you up for the next class or leave you there. Such were the friends you had acquainted yourself with.
Out on the back steps, you lied down and just waited for lunch to be over. You didn't want to eat in case you got sick. You just wanted this day to be over. Facing the doors, you watched as Nozomi came out. She was probably looking for your lunch again. She walked up to you slowly, a smirk on her face. If you were a little kid, you'd think she was coming to beat the hell out of you. As she reached you, you held your hand up with your lunch. She seemed shocked for a second, but took it and your usual spot on the stairs.
As soon as she began eating you got hungry. Figures. "And what exactly is wrong with you, sunshine? I didn't even have to steal your lunch today." You sat up so you could talk properly. You were probably covered in dirt, but you didn't care until you had to go back into class. It was then that you would dust yourself off as best as you could and forget how messy you looked.
"I'm just not hungry..." Nozomi shrugged. Really, it didn't matter whether you had given her your food or not, she would have gotten it either way. You'd have to start packing two lunches eventually. If you ever remembered. Soon enough the bell rang again. You didn't want to go back to class, but dragged your ass off the ground and dusted yourself off anyways. You felt a little wobbly. If you were smart, you'd go home. But you had to walk home anyways. So really it didn't make too much a difference.
As the day went by you felt worse and worse. The dizziness kept increasing no matter how many times you laid your head on the desk. Yumi told you that you should probably go see the nurse, but you really didn't want to. You hated any sort of doctor.
As the next class began, you sat quiet as usual in your seat. You were finding it hard to focus on anything. Your stomach was keeping you from doing any real work. You just wanted school to be over. You would walk home and sleep for the rest of the day. That's all you felt like doing.
As school ended you walked out the gates as slow as you could. Yumi and Amaya got fed up with you and just went ahead. Some friends. You'd get them back later, but at the current point in time, you were stuck on the empty back roads. Not long after you had left the school you had to stop and rest against a fence. Your dizziness only increased and you were ready to fall over if you took another step. "Hey, you alright?" You looked up from the ground to an orange haired guy. He had his bag in his hand and over his shoulder. You remembered his face from when Nozomi got into a fight.
You gave him a weak, sarcastic smile, lowering your head again. "No, I'm good..." You tried to walk away to avoid talking to him. He was weird; his orange hair said it all. And if you recalled correctly, he was the one who had thrown the fork at your head in the café. You only got about two steps before you started to fall over.
"Hey!" He had caught you, that much was going your way. But now you had to deal with him too. "Are you stupid or something?!" He grumbled and picked you up so that you could hang on to him as he gave you a piggy back. You had no clue where he was going, but you had a feeling you wouldn't like it much. Now you really wished you had brought your headphones with you. You could go without the honking of car horns at the moment. You felt like you were going to pass out soon.
Before you realized what was going on, you smelled something horrible placed in front of your nose. "Ahh! That's disgusting!" You fell backwards onto the floor, hearing someone laugh at you. Peering over the table you had been sitting on, you saw some guy in a white coat with a small tube in his hand. 'Ammonia...?' Well, you certainly felt much more alert than you had before. Taking a deep breath in, you tried to calm yourself. You were starting to feel down again. It wasn't as bad as before, but it wasn't much better either.
"Well, since you seem so alive now, I guess you're free to go." You looked at the doctor again before trying to stand up. It wasn't easy much to your disappointment. You were still rather wobbly. "If you give me a name and number I can have someone pick you up..." He looked at you funny before shrugging. You nodded and gave him your mom's cell number. You didn't want him knowing your home phone. That'd be too weird, doctor or not. You guessed your mom would drive over immediately. She was rather over protective.
You noticed that the orange haired guy from before had walked passed the door a couple of times, but never stopped to look in the room. Good, you didn't want him to. Within minutes your mom had arrived anyways. "Etsu! Are you mad! If you're that sick you should have called me sooner!!" Yup, that was a sure sign that she had walked into the room.
You merely ignored her and stared at the corner. She would blab for a minute or so before you could go anywhere anyways. You tried to tell her with little effort that you weren't sick but she talked over top of you. You sighed and walked out to the car to wait while she talked to the doctor. Though she had brought your headphones for you, you hoped she wouldn't be long. You wanted to get home and sleep.
"Mrs. Hitogokoro, has your daughter been in that state for a long period of time?" She just blinked at the Kurosaki and answered with a simple 'no', shaking her head. After adding in that it had only been since yesterday Etsu had been sick the doctor's eyes narrowed. "Ichigo, could you leave the room please?"
Though the boy was surprised, he left the room anyways. He had homework to keep him busy for a while. "Mrs. Hitogokoro, I'm concerned. Teenagers don't just pull a one-eighty out of nowhere for no reason. Ms. Etsu's state, I would say, was caused by something traumatic. I'm not suggesting anything out of line, but I must insist you talk to her." The woman merely nodded. She couldn't imagine what could have gotten Etsu into the state she as in. She almost never got sick. But she would make sure the problem was solved. Her children came above all else in her eyes.
You were getting impatient with having to wait. You just now recalled that Uryu was planning on coming over again. Though with Tsuki in the back seat, you'd prefer you go to his house. She was such an embarrassment. At the moment, she was kicking the back of your seat with much vigour. It was annoying as hell.
You were about to turn and yell at her when your mom finally got in the car. As she drove away, you reminded yourself that you'd have to sneak Uryu somewhere where Tsuki wouldn't see him. She'd be all over him. It was no wonder your friends hated coming over. At least for now she was forced to stop bugging you and you didn't have to listen to your mother.
When you got home you were more than happy to flop down on the couch as your mom made you some tea. You weren't up for it really, but she seemed awful insistent. Now you just had to relax until Uryu showed up. Before he even got there, you came up with a brilliant idea. You searched around for a piece of white chalk, smirking when you found a good sized piece. "Tsuki, come here!" You stood outside one of the doorways to the living room. In no time she popped in front of you.
"Wanna play a game with me?" You weren't feeling too good when she squealed out her answer. "Ok..." You knelt down and drew a prominent line along the carpet. Going to the other doorway, you did the same thing. "It's a fun game. We have to see how long we can keep from crossing these lines, okay? The winner gets the loser's dessert."
She gladly agreed and ran back up to her room. You threw the chalk up in your hand and caught it before going to sit back down. Such enthusiasm, and standing up of course, took a lot of strength. As lazy as that sounded, it was true. Now that you were back home, you felt miserable. Now though, all you had to do was get Uryu in the house before he had the chance to knock on the door.
Ah, perfect, there he was now. You snuck up to the front door, trying to make sure Tsuki didn't catch you. She seemed rather content in her room for once. You opened the door just before Uryu managed to get to it. You brought your fingers up to your lips to try and tell him to be quiet. He obviously got the idea, because he stayed quiet. Once you ushered him into the living room, you sighed. You had managed to avoid Tsuki for now. You went and sat on the couch again, exhausted already. Eh, pinpricks might get you moving again. "Sorry, I couldn't let my sister see you."
Soon enough you managed to get everything set up for him to teach you more sewing. Before you actually began, Uryu seemed a little hesitant. You glanced over at him, wondering what could possibly be bothering him. "Are you sure this is a good time? You're awfully pale..." At the mention of being sick you felt nauseous again. If he hadn't said anything, you wouldn't have thought about it.
"Nah, I'm ok. It's nothing bad." Well, you didn't actually know what it was, but still. He nodded and picked up the tools to get working. Though no matter how many times he told you to be careful where you stuck the pin, you never got it through your head. You almost always pricked yourself.
You wouldn't say you had improved from him helping just once, but it was fascinating to watch him. You had never seen a guy that was good at sewing. It was actually kind of a funny thought. About an hour after you had started, you were surprised you hadn't made yourself bleed from all the times you had stabbed yourself. You were about ready to pick up a different piece of fabric to start working again. You had totalled the last one.
"Etsu..."
You froze. That eerie, almost evil voice could only come from one person... "Yeah, mom?" You tried to make it look like you were innocent, that you didn't do anything at all that could have pissed her off. Uryu was there, sure. But that wouldn't be what made her talk like that. She didn't care when you invited friends over, just so long as there weren't boys in your room, late at night, with the door shut. Not that that would ever happen. Other than that she was all good.
"Why is there chalk on my floor?" You tried not to smirk or laugh at the many arrogant comebacks that crossed your mind. Nevertheless, one managed to make its way onto your face. You'd be in deep trouble now... She always got pissed when you had a, what she called, 'cocky' look on your face.
"I'm paying attention to Tsuki." You scrunched down on the couch, ready for a blow up. It was hard to tell whether she'd embarrass you and herself in front of Uryu or not. Thus, why not hide while you had the chance? It was much better to be safe than sorry. So the old proverb did turn out to be true after all.
When she only sighed you figured you were safe. At least until later. "Just clean it up when you're done..." At this you smirked again. Oh you'd be playing this 'game' every time you had a friend over now. Tsuki treasured her dessert too much to cross the line. It was your new saving grace.
As you worked on in silence, you wondered how Uryu could stand it. In ways, you normally would appreciate the silence, but in others you wished he might strike up a conversation. Maybe one on how you could stop pricking yourself... That'd be nice. You'd ask him to talk, but you didn't want to seem rude.
Out of no where a black and white lump dropped onto your lap. "Ahhhh-ahh-ahhh- cat..." You felt like an idiot for such a stupid yell. You looked at the small kitten for a second before looking behind you. Your dad was there smiling at you. You could only blink in confusion. What the hell was a cat doing in the house?
He winked at you, smiling devilishly. "And here I thought you could use a friend, but I guess you already have one." The small cat curled up on a cushion not far from you and started purring. He seemed friendly enough. Though you wondered how your mom would take to having it in the house... let alone Tsuki.
You scrunched down on the couch grumbling, trying to focus on sewing. "I have friends..." He seemed to find your pout ever amusing, because he laughed at you. He pressed his hand down on your hair and ruffled it up. It was an annoying habit of his that your mother defended, calling it 'affection'. "Go away..." You swatted his hand and made him laugh again.
"Alright, alright, don't get your hair in a knot." Oh, very funny. He should have been a comedian. He made it to the doorway that led to the kitchen before he stopped and turned. "You feeling any better since yesterday?" You only shook your head no in hopes of him leaving sooner. "Oh well, maybe tomorrow, huh?" You only shrugged. Eventually he got the point and left.
After a few minutes it was deathly quiet again. Points for you though, you hadn't pricked yourself in those few minutes. "You should have told me you're not feeling well." You 'hmm-ed' and looked over at Uryu, wondering what he meant by his statement. "I told you, I can come back another time."
You shrugged and went back to trying to sew. You ended up pricking yourself again before you got to speak. "If you don't want to be here, you don't have to be you know." You turned and gave him a small smile. "I'm not going to force you to help me." You felt bad that maybe he had the feeling he had to help. You also felt downhearted at the thought he might not want to be there at all and was just looking for an excuse to leave.
He seemed a little surprised at first before fixing his glasses and averting his gaze to the wall that held all of your family pictures, staring intently. "That's not what I meant." You 'hmm-ed' again. You were glad he wasn't trying to find a reason to leave at least. And at least he was talking somewhat. You wouldn't be bored to death with silence.

You looked around the room before setting your eyes on the picture frame that held your great grandfather's charm.
You were growing frustrated. There was no getting comfortable so long as you couldn't go in your room.
"I got you this from the store. I figured you probably wouldn't eat anything else."
