A silver whip materialized and lashed at the stem of an apple. Instantly it fell from the tree only to be caught by Serazel and placed into her basket. She saw something silver out of the corner of her eye and stopped. Looking over, she saw a demon with beautiful silver hair and a scarred chest dozing under a tree. An apple fell to the ground next to him and, startled, awoke. She giggled and when he turned his head in her direction, she looked away.

As she caught another apple and placed it into her basket, another apple dropped; this time on her head. She turned around to pick it up and rub her head when she heard laugher coming from the demon. Oh yeah? she thought. We'll see who's laughing next.

She picked the apple and threw it at him. He blocked it with his hands but didn't realize she had simultaneously cut another apple from a branch above him. It hit him on the head and as he rubbed it, she laughed.

"Clever," he mumbled.

She continued to pick her apples and moments later, when her basket was full, she started to exit the small grove of apple trees.

"What is your name?" she heard the silver demon ask.

She turned. "Serazel," she replied.

"Lady Serazel, why do you leave so soon?" he asked the beautiful demon before him.

"I must go home to cook these apples, silver demon. It is a special day today."

"Call me Yoko," he told her.

Serazel nodded and didn't move from her spot.

"Serazel, would you mind it terribly if I asked you to keep a lonely soul like me company?"

She inched forward slowly before making up her mind. "I would love to," her voice was soft as she sat down next to Yoko. Her loneliness poured out of her just by sitting inches away from another person. Her long, flowing green hair fell around her face as she leaned back against the tree and her purple eyes bore into the ground.

"You mentioned earlier that today was a special day. May I ask why?"

"Today I celebrate the anniversary of the day I met of the man I love. I bake an apple pie for him every year, hoping he will return to me," the loneliness and despair she had been feeling for the past seven years crept into her voice.

"From the tone of your voice I am guessing you do not celebrate this day with your lover?"

"He left me seven years ago...he told me he couldn't protect me...he had an amazing talent for gardening, it was as if he could communicate with the plants...he had the most beautiful gardens and his green eyes shone so even brighter when he was working in them...," she paused. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bore you. I haven't talked about him to anyone since he left me."

"May I ask you what his name was?"

"Of course," she was curious as to why he was interested in her story but dismissed the thought as they were both lonely and that was explanation enough. "His name was Shuichi Minamino, but I called him by Kurama, his real name."

"Sayu?" Yoko questioned her, looking deep into her eyes.

She looked back into his and blushed. "How do you know that name?" she questioned and started to move away.

"Sayu, I am so sorry," his appearance slowly changed, silver hair turning to a deep shade of red and his gray eyes turned green. He pulled her close to him and held her.

"Kurama?" she questioned through her tears as she leaned into his embrace. Slowly she released her demon form and changed into the true Sayu he knew.

"If you'll let me, I will protect you forever," a single tear shone in his eye.

"I wouldn't expect anything less of you," she smiled through her tears. She was no longer alone and would never be alone again.

Kurama moved away from Sayu. "Close your eyes," he asked of her.

She hesitated.

"Don't worry. Hold onto me if you wish but I will never leave you again."

She did as he asked and holding his hand in hers, Kurama led her away from the orchard. Sayu still carried her basket of apples.

Kurama led Sayu a short distance. When they reached their destination, he whispered, "Open your eyes," in her ear.

What she saw when her eyes had focused from her dried tears was the most beautiful garden she had ever seen. "You made this?" she questioned even though she already knew the answer.

"I finished it years ago. I was hoping to take you here one day when it was safe for you to be with me...oh Sayu, can you ever forgive me for what I've done?"

"You've done nothing that needs forgiveness," she turned around and her soft hand rested on his cheek. "I thought I'd never see this face again."

In response to her statement, Kurama leaned toward her and pressed his lips gently over hers. As she deepened the kiss, he picked her up and, lips still locked, brought her to his room. They both sat on the window seat of his room and looked out the huge arched window overlooking the beautiful garden Kurama had created.

"When I was younger, I'd have loved to sit out there and read all day," she mused.

"Maybe one day we'll have our own children playing out there," Kurama suggested in a soft voice.

She leaned into him and he held her while they looked out at the garden and then into each others' eyes. "I hope that day is soon." They both smiled.

"I love you Sayu and nothing could ever take you away from me."

"I've loved you these past seven years and nothing will ever change those feelings for you," Sayu whispered. "You are the only man I've ever loved."
