Softly, softly. The words were spoken, whispered.
The wind caressed them, loved them, then threw them back hastily.
Hair whipped in the wind, leaves getting lost inside the mass of curls the hung ever so nicely on her shoulders.
He picked out a leaf, with his large, masculine hands. He examined it, turned it over carefully in his hand, scrutinizing it. He let it fall through his long fingers, the now-still air letting it drift towards the ground. It hit silently, the folds molding into itself. He stepped on it viciously, the folds crunching, screaming, dying.
He opened his perfect lips again, breathing in the crisp autumn air. He brought forth the same audible words, for what seemed like the hundredth time.
"Why did you come?" She heard the words again, and she was still baffled.
"You asked me to..." she replied, playing with a loose strand of material on her torso. Her backless, black dress shifted around as she squirmed. The material clung to her skin, like she did to all her memories with him.
Him, him, him.
Taller than her, the perfect height to hug and never let go. The most rich, chocolatey skin tone she had ever laid eyes on. His hair was short, but she could live with that. His eyes were always sparkling, and alive. His smile was big, full of happiness and laughter.
But not tonight.
His eyes were dull, aching. They lacked colour, emotion, life. His smile was gone, hidden beneath his face of lies.
"I wanted to see if you would," the words startled her out of her thoughts. "I wanted to see if you would leave your party with him, to come see me." He glanced at her face, then at her party clothes. "Fuck, you must be so cold. I'll let you go back to him, I mean the party. I don't have a coat to give you." He rambled on, not listening to her stuttering.
"I'll always come back to you," she whispered, stepping closer to him. "I love you."
His perfectly sculpted jaw unhinged, and his eyes came to life. He mouth curved into a smile, and he enveloped her into a warm, loving hug.
"I knew it," he exclaimed into her hair. "I knew it. I love you too."
She wasn't sure how long they stood like that, together, in each other's arms. But she wished it would last forever.
it's true, romance is dead, i shot it in the chest and in the head.
