"Where is he?!" A voice ordered angrily. A girl around eighteen smirked and tried to sit up. But the ropes that were tied to the chair and that held her hands together prevented her from doing so. They rubbed painfully against her delicate wrists. Leaving bright red marks.
But she quickly dismissed the pain. She wasn't going to cave. It wasn't in her nature. It wasn't how she was brought up. "Like I would tell you." She taunted. The man grew more impatient with her. And she knew it. But she had to stall him even if it meant risking her life.
"Listen little girl your making me very angry. And you won't like my angry side." he explained nicely. "So to prevent me from taking this gun and making an ugly imprint in your pretty little face you need to tell me where he is and what he is up to. NOW!"
The girl scoffed and turned her face up into the air ignoring him. The man screamed in frustration. "Look princess just because your daddy is high in power doesn't mean were gonna think twice before killing you." another man said with a kinder voice.
"Kill me then. I'm not selling out my father. I'd rather die a hundred deaths then betray my family." she said boldly. "Big mistake sweetie." the first man laughed as he cocked the gun and held it in front of her face.
But she didn't flinch. "You think that's going to scare me? Sweetie I've grown up with guns being thrust in my face everyday. I'm used to it." she teased. The second man chuckled before reaching into his pocket.
"Garret put that down. There's no need for it." He ordered. The first man obeyed unwillingly and put the gun away. The girl glared at the second man as he went behind the chair.
She shuttered at his touch as he swept back her dark blonde hair to reveal her neck. "You know you should have just listened to me. Then I wouldn't have had to result to this." he whispered huskily as he brushed his fingers over her neck.
"Don't touch me you monster." She growled darkly. He laughed into her ear before taking a syringe from his pocket and quickly injecting the fluid into the girls neck. She flinched as the needle broke skin and bit her lip as the fluid began pumping through her veins.
Her eyes began dropping as she swayed in the chair. "Wh-what was that?" she asked groggily. "Morphine." The girl laughed tiredly. "Morphine? Is that the best you got Nicholas?" she teased.
"I wouldn't joke just yet my dear Veronica. I added a little something extra to it. You should start feeling it right about-" Nicholas was cut off by Veronica's screaming. "Now." he finished smirking.
"What the hell?" Veronica stuttered out. "Oh just a little sometime I made up especially for you dear. And mixed with the right dose of morphine it is completely lethal." he explained.
Veronica bit her lip in attempt to fight the pain. "Now I wish I could stay around to watch your death but unfortunately I must catch a plane to Italy. Maybe your brother will be more help than you were." Nicholas contemplated.
Veronica's eyes grew wide and she fought against the ropes, "No! You leave my brother out of this. He doesn't know anything about the family business. He will be no help to you Nicholas." she exclaimed.
Nicholas laughed and shook his head, "Dear girl I already know this. But what would be better than watching each of the Richards children die off due to their own fathers foolish business?"
"You'll never get away with it Nicholas. My father will never let you around Nolan." Veronica told him as she began fading into the black. "Yes and your precious mother said that I would never get to you. And look where I have you."
"Tied up and slowly dying. I think I will have no problem getting my hands on Nolan. Your whole family is going down Veronica and there is nothing you can do about it." Nicholas laughed as he began walking off towards the warehouses door.
Veronica looked up and watched as Garret looked back smirking before slamming the door shut. "Dammit." Veronica paused and looked up to the ceiling, "I'm sorry father." Veronica whispered as she slipped into the darkness.
Baby this ain't nothing but cheap champange
Three months earlier
"Misses Veronica, Your going to be late for school." A woman with a thick Irish accent stated. "I know Carolyn." Veronica said rushing around to grab her books. "Shall I tell Benny to get the limo ready?" she asked kindly.
Veronica turned around and smiled, "That would be amazing Carolyn. Thank you." Carolyn waved her hands, "Not a problem dear." Veronica watched as she scurried down the long hallway to tell Benny to get the limo ready.
Veronica never liked traveling in the limo, she'd rather stay low profile, but when she was fifteen minutes late for her English class she needed the one car that could go as fast as it would like without getting pulled over.
Then again no cop dared mess with the Richards. It may have to do with the fact that the Richards were one of the biggest Mafia families in New Jersey. Though no one outside of the mafia knew what the Richards did or who they were.
All they knew was they lived in a mansion on the outskirts of town. And that their daughter, Veronica Richards, attended NYU, and their son, Nolan Richards, was living in Italy for some bizarre reason. They also knew that Mrs. Richards had died when the two were just small children and that Mr. Richards was never home.
Also that Veronica was almost always ushered around and always had a couple body guards following her around. So the citizens of the town the family lived in had decided it was better to just not ask questions and go one with their lives.
But that didn't mean they didn't get curious. Soon rumors began flying around and the family tried their best to ignore them. But some were harder to ignore than others. Veronica sighed as she began running down the hallway and down the steps quickly.
"Hi daddy bye daddy!" She greeted and said goodbye to her father as she slipped out of the door. She smiled gratefully when she saw Benny standing there with the door to the limo door open. "Thanks Benny." She said as she slipped into the back of the limo.
Veronica got comfortable and made sure she had everything together since she wouldn't be able to come back home until after school. That was a downside of not living on campus. "Benny step on it I'm totally late for English." Veronica ordered kindly.
Benny obeyed and began to speed up. And in a matter of ten minutes they were in front of NYU. Veronica grabbed her books and slid out of the limo. She bid Benny a quick farewell as she began racing off to class.
She twisted down every hall until she finally found her classroom. Without thinking she burst into the room gaining all the attention from her fellow classmates and from her teacher. "Ah Miss. Richards how nice of you to finally join us." he said in a snooty tone.
"I'm sorry Mr. Reeds. I uhm had a family emergency." Veronica lied. It wasn't a complete lie though. Last night there was a family emergency. A mafia family from California, who had it out for the Richards, had found their hide out which resulted in a massive shooting.
But nothing Veronica wasn't used to. "Miss. Richards that is the sixth family emergency in the last two weeks." Mr. Reeds stated. "I'm sorry sir. But...the uh family business is kind of in a rough spot so the whole family is stressed." She lied again.
"Whatever you say Miss. Richards just take a seat." Mr. Reeds ordered. Veronica nodded immediately and rushed to her seat in the back of class. She slumped down in her chair and pulled out a notebook that had notes from English along with notes on the next family meeting.
She tuned Mr. Reeds out as she began writing down ideas to keep her families positions hidden. As Veronica was writing she felt eyes on her and that was something she never felt. Everyone always tuned her out just like she tuned everyone out.
So she curiously looked up and came in contact with deep chocolate brown eyes. Even though Veronica didn't date, mainly because she couldn't, she couldn't help but think this guy was gorgeous.
His brown hair with blonde highlights stuck up in random places and his eyes shone with innocence. Something Veronica's hadn't done since she was ten. Veronica sighed and looked away from him. She couldn't get interested in a guy.
It was against the rules. You were not permitted to converse with anyone outside of the family or allies of the family. That was one of the biggest rules you had to follow. It could determine the outcome of the day depending on who the person was.
And naturally Veronica didn't interact with anyone besides her body guards, her maid, her father, and a few select family members. She was very anti-social but it kept her safe. And in this line of work that was all that mattered.
Veronica jumped as the bell rang signalling that the class was over. She sighed and grabbed her bag and weaved her way of the class. Meanwhile the boy in her English class was watching her walk away.
"Hey Derek, Kyle." He said trying to get his two friends attention. "Yeah?" Derek asked. "Who was that?" he asked curiously. He hadn't ever seen that girl on campus before and he was determined to find out who she was. "Who?" Kyle questioned.
"That girl." he pointed to Veronica. "Oh man that's Veronica Richards." Kyle explained. "Don't even try Greg. No one has ever gotten close to Veronica. The teachers here rarely ever actually talk to her." Derek added.
Greg looked at his two friends wearily. "Youre kidding." He said. "Dude she is the one who created anti-social." Derek laughed. "She can't be that bad." Greg tried to reason. Derek and Kyle just laughed and shook their heads in disagreement.
'She really couldn't be that bad? Could she?'
and a complicated lifstyle!
