The bus creaked to a halt outside the school. I sighed again. Couldnt school just...NOT exist? There was no reason for it - most people just treated it like a social occasion. No one needs school.
A person running to meet a friend barrelled me over. WHAM. I hit the ground. The person kept running. I sighed and went to collect my various books, which were strewn all over the entrance to the school. I moaned. Way to start a new school Ashley.
I leant over to collect my maths book (which was 5 metres away) when someone tripped over me.
Yes. They TRIPPED over me.
"Hey! Watch it!" I cried as they spiralled into the ground.
"No you watch it! What are you doing there, lying on the ground in the ENTRANCE TO A SCHOOL?"
"Well, SORRY you highness! Ill just let my BRAND NEW SCHOOL BOOKS get walked all over shall I?!"
The boy sighed and brushed himself down. Loose blonde hair fell into his electric blue eyes. Oh god those eyes.
Shut up brain. We don't need people in our life.
He bent down and handed me a book.
"You dropped this" he told me as he turned and walked away.
"Ahh! You must be a new student! Come, come, we have a briefing to go to!"
I looked at the teacher with displeasure. I didnt want to go to a briefing. I wanted to be at home. In bed. No here.
"Come on! We dont have all day child! Off to the auditorium! You will meet your sponsor there! Your sponsor will show you around! They will be your first friend! Isnt that fun?"
Yuck. Over enthusiasm galore.
Once in the auditorium, I took a seat as far away from people as possible. But the people seemed to follow me. I found myself surrounded by people. And there were only 17 new students.
Funny That.
"Okie dokie aritichokie! Lets get started! Wait for your name, then come up here and MEET YOUR SPONSOR!" He sounded so excited that some people laughed.
Not me. I dont laugh.
"How nuts is this?" Oliver asked me. He had taken the seat next to me. Maybe he was the geek magnet, attracting all these kids here
"I know. I mean, its so demeaning having a 'sponsor'! As if I can't find my own way around here!"
Oliver laughed, and would have said more, but my name was called.
"Ashley Aidem?" Curse my father for having a last name at the beginning of the alphabet.
I stood up, all eyes on me.
Hurry up girl!
I walked even slower down the aisle, up the steps and onto the stage.
Now that youre finally up here, your sponsor will be Jimmy Anderson!
I spun to see who I would be stuck with for the coming week.
Every girl in the auditorium gasped, then sighed with envy when they saw the boy who was to be my sponsor (and his eyes).
Yes, it was the boy who thought it was my goal in life to have my school books walked all over.
The guy with the magic eyes.
That guy.
