Kelly was looking around the diner nervously. The clock said that it was 9:15, Kelly was think of the American History class she was suppose to be in. She put it into the back of her mind though she knew she would never get away with skipping school and looked at the bright red and white booth across from the table she was sitting at.
There were two women that looked like they were approaching their thirties, laughing at some story that one of the ladies with blonde hair was telling. Kelly was starting to wonder if she would ever have a good friend like that at her age, seeing that her friend count was about zero these days.
"Kelly, are you there?" Pete said from across the table holding a napkin to his chin.
Kelly shook her head out of the daze that she had been in and looked over at the boy sitting across from him. He was wearing almost a smug smile which Kelly now thought how much she absolutely loathed that smile he wore.
"Of course, I'm here you idiot. It's not like disappeared or anything," she said with annoyance.
Pete sighed a little, "You seemed troubled. What's on your mind?"
Kelly crossed her arms over her chest, like she was going to tell him anytime soon what was wrong, she thought. Kelly continued to scowl across at Pete hoping to scare him away at some point.
"If looks could kill, I think I might me dead," Pete said again with the same annoying smugness.
"Oh! Are you just so full of yourself?! Thinking you can just own the world with your..."
"Annoying bigheaded-ness?" Pete suggested.
"Yes, exactly! Why can't you just get over yourself and stop pretending like your hot shit or something?"
"Or maybe you are the one annoyed with the world and have preconceived notions of people?"
"Or maybe you're just the biggest jerk that ever walked this planet!"
"I'm the jerk! I didn't walk away that night never to even give me the courtesy to speak to me again!"
Kelly stopped, what was she kidding herself for? What on earth made her think it was a good idea to go into an eatery with this...monster. "I made this mistake once, but I think it will be best for me to go now."
Kelly got up from her booth. Looking frantically for the exit, and now realizing the small crowd of people visiting at the diner and eating were all now staring in her and Pete's direction. She flushed a deep crimson red and tried to rush to the closest exit.
"Stop running from all your problems Kelly, you're only going to make them worst every time you do so!"
Kelly ignored the shouting coming from the booth that she recently resided and ran outside. She was able to breathe easier out in the bright morning sunlight and the traffic was drowning out the horrible shouting coming from inside.
But Kelly knew she had to leave this place, before he found her again. She looked down the street for an available taxi, but all seemed to be occupied. Her next best shot was to run and leave this place as quickly as possible.
So for the second time that morning she was running as quickly as she could. And once again she ran into someone she knew.
But at least this time when she was hurriedly trying to pick up the items she wasn't upset to see this person.
"Patrick? Is that really you?"
"Kelly, what the hell are you doing here?"
