Justin slowly got used to the fact that he may never be able to forget Max. She would be forever imprinted in his mind. Her eyes. Her smile. Her voice. Her smell. Her laugh. Justin could never forget any of those things and he would never want to.
But many more times than not, Justin wanted to know more about her. He wanted to know what was behind the clear blue eyes. He wanted to know her thoughts, but knowing that would be a perfectly impossible task.
So, Justin was just fine with staring into the clear blue eyes, because thats all he had and he couldnt ask for more even if that was all he wanted. He felt he did not deserve any kind of affection or love, so without it he would stay.
"Hey, Black," Max greeted, mechanically, as she settled herself into her seat. Like always, she was the perfect impersonation of an angel. All she needed was the feathery white wings.
Justin smiled brightly, which took him much time to master. His smiles were normally short lived and forced, but around Max, he found his face being contorted into a new expression. He couldnt believe that he might be happy.
"Ready for the test?" Justin asked with pure interest.
Max laughed, "You know I don't study, Black."
Justin enjoyed the short laugh of which he could only compare to a Goddess, "Just seeing if you decided to have a change of heart."
Max nodded, "Well, I'm sure youre as prepared as always. What are we even studying, anyways?"
Justin chuckled and heard, "Ancient history of the Aztecs and Incas," From a male voice in the seat in front of him. Justin turned his head in the direction of the noise to see a fair-haired boy that must have been a senior from the letter on his jacket that labeled him a varsity swimmer.
The boy grinned widely at Max, "Thanks, Anthony," She gave him a slight smile out of courtesy and he turned back around with much joy.
"Who is that?" Justin demanded, feeling a sharp pain in the pit of his stomach.
"Oh, just Anthony. Hes in like three of my other classes."
Justin clenched his teeth as he turned to face forward so he could take his test.
"Complete jock-you know the type," Max whispered after she leaned over closer to Justin, "Good luck. I'm going to fail." She leaned back into her desk with a small smile on her face.
Justin glanced over at her before he smiled and sighed. He had nothing to worry about, but he couldnt understand why his heart raced from the beginning.
He was passed a packet of three pieces of paper and began with ease to complete his test. He waited for twenty-two minutes before everyone else was finished. He passed up his test when the teacher commanded and turned backto Max. She had a look of indifference on her face.
"Well, my prediction was right. I failed," Max stated with a laugh.
"How do you know? You haven't gotten it back yet. You might have done really well," Justin insisted.
"Sure, Black. Think what you want." Max stood to her feet. "But, maybe I'll see you at Colbys party this weekend."
Justin thought quickly. He hated parties, but loved just spending time with Max, even if it was only before and after History class. He nodded and stood to his feet as well.
"Promise?"
Justin smiled, "I promise."
"Later, Black," Max grinned as she said her common goodbye and walked out the door while Justin watched intently.
"You have no chance, Justin. Give up. She will never want you," Justin heard Anthonys voice from his side and when he turned his head towards the voice he could only see a green jacket disappearing out of the door.
Justin balled up his hand into a fist. He was right, even though that killed him to admit it. Max would never want him. He was a meaningless person she talked to before and after a boring class. He meant nothing to her and he never would.
But, he promised her that he would be there, so he would be there. His word would hold true through anything and that would never change.
Justin walked towards the benches that were massively covered in a sworn of green and white. All of the jocks and cheerleaders proudly displayed their school colors. Justin picked out Gabe as he sat on top of the bench to the far end of the school, a girl clinging to his arm.
"Hey, Gabe," Justin greeted, casually.
Gabe switched his attention from the blonde to Justin and smiled warmly, "Hey, man. Meet Wendy Storm. Wendy, meet Justin Black."
Justin put up his hand in a mid-interest wave. Wendy waved back enthusiastically and giggled. Justin furrowed his brow as she continued to giggle, then shook his head.
"Hey, Gabe, are you going to Colbys party?"
Gabe shot Justin a weird look. For some time now, Gabe had given up even the mere mention of a party, except if the comment included a six-pack, a cheerleader, and a hotel room, "Yeah, why?"
Justin forgot to plan an answer for the presence of Wendy and had to think quick on his feet, "Because I wanted to know if you needed a lift."
Wendy interrupted Gabe as soon as he opened up his mouth to speak, "Oh, my gosh, Colbys party is going to be so fun! I'm not really sure what to wear though. I mean, I could wear that skirt that I just bought, but I don't have anything that would go with it! What do you think, Gabe?"
"Uh, yeah, sure. That sounds great." Wendy giggled and continued to cling to Gabes arm as if she didnt even notice that Gabe wasnt paying attention.
Gabes dark eyes turned back to Justin, "No thanks, I've got to pick up Wendy, anyways." He still had a look of complete confusion on his face.
Justin left with a quick goodbye that was immediately followed by a fresh burst of giggles.
Cover up with make-up in the mirror...
Justin looked at his reflection in his completely sparkling white bathroom. In the matter of seconds he gave an indifferent shrug and left the bathroom after flicking off the lights.
He jogged down the cherry wooden stairs to his warm, cozy living room. His mother was busying herself by fluffing the pillows on the couch and dusting every wooden surface, as always.
Justin shook his head at his mothers actions and grabbed his keys from the small table beside the door, "Bye Mom!"
"Bye sweetie!"
He closed and locked his front door before he got in his jeep and made his way towards the party.
In ten minutes his dark green jeep was pulled up in front of a huge brick house that should be more commonly referred to as a mansion. He parked his car among the other numerous vehicles. The music was already blaring loudly, so that it was audible from the streets and was even shaking the ground Justin walked on. He noticed the door slightly creaked open and decided to merely push it further, enough so that he could walk through the threshold.
Inside of the party, there was no room to breathe. As Justin expected, there were far too many people for it to be comfortable inside. It did not matter how huge the first story of the house was, there was just too many people. Another thing that wasnt that convienent of having so many people in any given space was the body heat that they created.
Justins eyes caught hold of many beer games, dancing couples, and drunken acts. What a typical high school party. Justin walked into the kitchen to escape the loud music and laughter and found little peace around the stain-less steal appliances.
The volume of noises was turned down a few octaves, but all the lyrics could still be heard to the latest song that was coming out of the high-tech speakers. But, at least the kitchen was abandon. No one could be seen or heard inside of the expensively designed kitchen.
Justin turned quickly at the sound of the swinging door being opened and a large figure staggering in, "Justin!"
Justin scoffed at his slightly tipsy friend. He had never seen Gabe drunk and thought it as maybe the only thing to look forward to at this party. That and maybe seeing Max, which made him realize the soul reason for him coming to the party.
Gabe stumbled further into the kitchen and leaned against the island countertop next to Justin. He used his hand that held a bright red cup to point at Justin, "How you enjoying the party?"
"It's great," Justin lied.
Gabe hiccupped and finished off his beer before tossing the red cup over his shoulder, "I need another beer," Gabe announced and staggered out the door he came through.
Justin laughed openly now, finding the whole situation ridiculous. The whole process of getting hammered drunk every weekend to only wake up to sickness was completely pointless in Justin eyes, but to be a part of it was something that was even more ridiculous. He laughed at his stupidity.
"What are you laughing at?"
Justin turned around to see Max coming through a hallway that opened up through the kitchen. He wasnt sure how she could walk on the wooden floors, but never make a sound and look so stunning, but never even look like she cared.
"Uh, nothing," Justin chocked back his laughter and watched as Max walked over to take the place that Gabe once had.
"I didn't think you would come."
Justin stared at Max, "I promised, didn't I?"
Max grinned, "Yeah, I guess you did."
Justin smiled at Max, which seemed like the only thing he did lately.
After a while of talking, Max opened up more to Justin then she ever had before. She told him that she lived with her father and her younger sister, Katie. She said that her mother died in a car accident when she was young, so she never really got to know her. She said that it was better this way, since you cant cry for someone that you never really got to know. She said that her father worked a lot, so she always had to look after Katie and since Katie is only two years younger than Max, they are very close. She even brought Katie here, but lost track of her sometime around entering the door.
Justin told Max that he only had one parent, as well and that parent died in a car accident, too. He was pretty young when his father died, but he can still remember everything about him. He has two siblings, Luke and Lilly. They were very young when their father died, so they dont remember him at all. But sometimes, when his mom isnt cleaning, he can see her just staring out the window at nothing. It almost seems like shes waiting for something to happen or for someone to come back to her. He knew she was still waiting for his father to come home from work.
Sometime during Justin and Maxs conversation, they found their way into the party and sat down on one of the tan leather couches, without any bright red cup of beer in their hands.
"I have to do something with my family tomorrow. It would be really bad to have a hangover while I'm with them. You know have to set a good example for Katie," Max smiled.
"Yeah, me too," Justin smiled back, even though he had nowhere to be with his family.
They talked for a while longer, until a familiar green jacket came into Justin peripheral vision. He looked to his side and saw Anthony walking right up to Max.
"Hey, Max. You look great."
"Thanks," Max gave a quick smile up at Anthony.
"Do you want to dance?"
Max looked quickly at Justin, before she nodded and stood to her feet. As Anthony led her to the crowd of sweaty dancing teenagers, Max looked back at Justin and gave him a smile.
Justin lost sight of the two from his seat on the couch and decided he had to find a new place to stand so that he could watch over Max. He walked around the crowd of people and found that he could stand against a wall near a large plant of some kind and see Max and Anthony.
Anthony continued to try to pull Max closer to him, but she continued to wiggle free from his grasp and dance by herself. Even if Justin wanted to look anywhere else it would have been hard to shift his eyes to any other female dancer. He was totally intoxicated by Maxs swaying hips, that he was lost in a trance until Anthony tried one last time to pull her closer to him.
Max tried to push him away, but Justin could tell that Anthony merely laughed. Justin grew hot with anger. He watched as Max struggled to get loose from Anthonys arms until he had enough.
Something inside of Justins legs moved them to step once, then again and again, until he was right next to Anthony. Something in his arm forced it to reach forward and pull Anthony by the shoulder. Anthony spun around and glared at the cause of his abrupt movement. Justin could see Max behind Anthony and to Justins surprise she looked neither scared nor frightened. She looked more furious, like she was ready to kill Anthony, but something was holding her back.
"What is your problem, Justin? Why don't you just back off?" Anthony snarled.
The party seemed to go on without any disruption, as if this has been rehearsed hundreds of times and it was just being rehearsed one more time. What was any good high school party without a little tension?
Justin glared back at Anthony, and something in his voice caused him to say, "Max obviously doesnt want to dance with you, so why dont you leave her alone?"
Nothing in Justin was prepared for the fist that in one second met his face. As the amount of pressure forced his face to the side, he mentally thanked a non-exist God that he didnt hear any cartilage break. With the force that came with the hit, Justin fell to the floor and could feel the trickle of blood that began to fall down his upper lip.
Max pushed Anthony aside and hurried to help Justin up.
"Are you okay?" Max asked in a rushed voice.
Justin smiled through his pain. He had a guardian angel by his side, why is there any need to feel bad?
"I'm great."
Max gave a short laugh as she helped Justin to his feet and glared over at Anthony, "Did you get what you wanted, Anthony?"
Anthony stood in shock as his beers he consumed began to wear off and he started to realize what was happening. He watched with anger as Max led Justin right passed him, through the mass of people and out of the party.
Max helped Justin to sit down on the steps in front of the house that should be referred to as a mansion.
"You really shouldn't have done that. I could have handled Anthony by myself," Max sighed.
"It didn't look like you were handling it," Justin said underneath his breath.
"Well, I was going to. You just came too early. If you were there two seconds later he would have been limp on the floor."
Justin chuckled and winced as a sharp pain went through the area Anthonys fist touched his skin.
Max moved closer to Justin and held his head in her hands as she tilted his head up, "Thank you, though."
Justin smiled.
"But, you could have ruined your pretty little nose," Max smiled, "Your lucky its not broken."
Justin heard rushed footsteps come from behind him, but didnt want to turn and look for Max still held his head in her hands.
"Here, I got it from the kitchen once I saw him confront the jock. I knew it wasnt going to go good."
Max smiled as she was given a damp rag, "Thanks, Katie." Max began to clean off the blood from Justins nose, "Oh, Justin, this is Katie, my sister. Katie, meet my friend, Justin."
Katie moved to stand next to Max so she was in Justins view, "Its Kate. You really need to stop calling me that. It sounds like a chubby kindergarteners name," Kate turned to Justin, "Hey, how's the nose feeling?"
"It's not bad."
Kate directed her attention back on Max, "God, does a fight follow you everywhere? I mean, seriously, everywhere we go two guys are either fighting over you or you are getting in a-"
Max cut Kate, off, "We get the picture, Kate! Here, take my keys and just sit and wait in the car."
Max stuck her free hand in her pocket and tossed the keys to Kate. She caught them and smirked, "Fine, then I'm driving."
"You touch that steering wheel and you will wake up missing a kidney!" Max shouted at Kate as she jogged across the street to a black car that looked like its main purpose for being created was to drive over the speed limit.
"'Very protective of your sister?'" Justin quoted Max in a mock disbelief.
Max chuckled, "Well, what I didnt tell you was that I am more protective of my baby. And I mean, cmon! Its a 1967 Chevelle Super Sport! Why wouldnt I be protective?"
"Oh, right, of course. How could I be so foolish?"
Max and Justin laughed as they heard the roar of an engine. Max turned to see Kate behind the steering wheel, grinning wildly.
"Is she even legal?" Justin asked.
"No, I just hate seeing her drive my baby."
"She drives, but doesnt even have a permit?"
Max shrugged, "Well, where are the cops to give out the fines?"
Justin was surprised to see how comfortable Max was with breaking the law, but in this moment he couldnt even care.
Max finished cleaning Justins nose and asked for his phone. He questioningly gave it to her and she began to quickly stab in a number with her thumb. She smiled as she tossed it back at him and leaned in towards him to whisper in his ear, "In case I need some tutoring."
Max pressed a soft kiss against Justins cheek and hurried off to the revving engine. He watched in a daze as she climbed into the drivers seat and smiled back in his direction. Justin couldnt wipe the grin off his face as he watched her drive away.
How did it end up like this? It was only a kiss. Oh, it was only a kiss...
Hey readers! You are awesome! Now go rate, message, and c-box! Woot=D
Just a side note to anyone who's name is Katie. I meant nothing by that at all! My friend's name is Katie, so this is only the views of the character in my story, Kate, not mine at all. Even though she is my creation, her words are her own.
And for everyone else, if I ever have any content in my writing that offends you, I am truely sorry. Most of the content I do not agree with myself. Like for instense, Justin, he does not believe in any god, but I do believe in God.
I barely ever will write in my own point of view, so don't hold me to anything I write.
Stay awesome=)
