"Hey! Check out that cutie!"

"What?" I looked up from my A.P. Art History reading to my friend Kate. We were sitting in the library during our study hall attempting doing work. It was only the first week of school as seniors, and yet we were already bogged down with busy and tiring schedules.

"That would be Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome, and totally yummy, at one o'clock," she said with a small smile. Her eyes were completely glued to some boy over my left shoulder.

Casually, as to not draw attention to the fact we were ogling a boy across the library, I turned in my seat slowly to see whom she was talking about. Kate's description coudln't have been more accurate.

"New student?" I asked.

"No idea."

I stole one more glance. He was sitting in his chair, slouching, yet totally focused on some writing (or doodling) he was doing in a black notebook. But we weren't the only one's noticing him. The entire surrounding female population was being tripped up by his very presence. I shrugged him off and went back to my reading, which was due next period.

...

...

...

"Do you think he's European?" Kate interrupted by concentration.

I couldn't help but let out a loud snort that could only draw the attention of the librarian who flashed me a glare.

"Kate," I whispered. "Why don't you go talk to him?"

She scoffed in response. "I've never seen him before in my life. Is he even a senior?" She pointed at me. "Besides, what would I say?"

"How about: 'Hi! You must be new here. My name's Kate, and I think you're hotter than Ashton Kutcher. Wanna date me?'"

Instead of snickering at my sarcasm, she rolled her eyes. I continued, and lowered my voice for the freaking librarian was still giving me a death glare.

"And who cares what grade he's in, right? We're at the top of the food chain now."

Kate did smile at that. "And it feels so damn good." Her eyes wandered back to Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome. I was quick to imitate her.

It was kind of amazing. He seemed completely oblivious to the awed stares, drooling girls, sighs, and whispers of the Greenwood Preparatory Academy female population. Either that or he didn't notice or didn't care.

It was right then when life started to get interesting. Before I could look away, he suddenly lifted his head up from his notebook, catching my eyes. For some reason, I found myself unable to break eye contact. I was entranced. From my distance, I could see that his eyes were a dark and shadowy brown, and they glinted with a hint of humor, mystery, and flirtatiousness. The edges of his lips curled into a mischievous smirk.

For some reason I felt my breath hitch in my throat as if I lost all sense of breathing. Apparently he noticed my discomfort, and to make things worse, he responded...with a very slow and deliberate wink.

My face began to heat up and to prevent any further embarrassment on my part I quickly turned back to my Art History reading to hide my blush.

Damn, he's hot! My mind was racing and my face was still warm. Really hot.

I shifted in my seat from even more discomfort when I couldn't help but feel like someone - that guy - was still watching me. I ignored the chills on the back of my neck where my hairs were rising. I mean, not only was he making me feel really uncomfortable that I had been caught staring (and did nothing about it!), but I was kind of turned on by it.

He had to the sexiest thing that walked this planet.

After realizing that I had been reading the same sentence at least five times and wasn't soaking anything up, I decided to bother Kate.

"So what time's lunch?" I asked, remembering to whisper.

"After third block." She didn't look up from her happy-highlighting. I wondered if she had seen that wink, she was either acting like she hadn't seen it at all. Or she could have done the smart thing in this situation and look away when she was caught staring.

...Or he could have been winking at her?

At that thought (which I thoroughly convinced myself to be the truth) I felt like what could have easily been a ton of bricks release from my tense shoulders. Of course, he was actually winking at her, and she was just playing it off. Common mistake, since she's directly behind me from his position. Whew.

I went back to my reading, where I wasn't progressing very much, still due by next block.

...

...

"Hey! Do either of you know what time lunch is?" asked a foreign voice.

Both Kate and I looked up. My throat instantly closed. It was him. Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome, in all his glorious mystery and moodiness standing right in front of us. No less than a couple feet away.

I'm positive my jaw dropped right to the ground and my eyes bugged out so much that I must have resembled one of those stuffed animals that actually look like their being chocked to death.

"Uh, ummmm..." I started, unable to form coherent words.

"After third block." Kate spoke for me, giving him the same response she had given me only moments before.

"Alright. Thanks." He smiled. A gorgeous, perfect, pearly-white smile. I melted...And he looked right at me. Okay, now I was definitely a puddle on the floor.

"How much reading for class do we have to do? I'm afraid I wasn't paying attention last class." he was pointing to the heavy book in my hand.

"What?" I felt Kate train her eyes on me. But I was only paying attention to him, who was giving me a weird look.

I continued. "Wait, you're in my fourth period Davidson's A.P. Art History class?"

"Yeah," he said, giving me that look which made me realize how much of an idiot I sounded right then.

Smooth.

"Oh right," I said. Somehow I couldn't remember ever seeing his face in that class. I really needed to pay more attention to people, not what the teacher is saying all the time.

"Um...chapter one in the text and start reading that book for our first-quarter essay."

"And that's all due by next block?"

"Yeah."

Sweet. I sound so intelligent right now. What is wrong with me?

"Sweet. Thanks ladies. Enjoy your day." He flashed us both a dazzling smile and then he disappeared.

I'm an idiot.
