If there was ever a moment of inclusive confusion in Lily's life, this must have been it. Lily watched Rhia with teeming perplexity; was this some sort of setup? Was all this "working for Mr. Willy Wonka" a joke? Was Rhia just some cheesy psychic? And what about the Buckets? They had been so generous, and Lily was stupid enough to believe it!
Lily blew an upsetting sigh from her mouth; dropping her head into her hands. Here she sat, thinking there was a bit of a chance left for her to get back on her feet. But no, everything was too good to be true--for Lily. Now she was left feeling like a dim-witted, git.
"It's all a joke," Lily sighed. She ran her fingers through her chaotic hair. "Isn't it?"
Rhia answered with a weary smile, placing her ring absorbed hand on Lily's.
"Why would you even think that, Lily?" she asked. Lily looked away, not able to face the uncomfortable stare.
"Things never seem to go right for me." Lily shrugged, pointing a numb finger towards her. "I mean, look at me!" Instantly an unpleasant scowl formed on Rhia's face.
"Don't say that Lily!" she snapped. "Did you ever think that maybe once in your life, things are going great?"
Menacing stares peered at the two women from around the coffee shop. Clearly, the disturbance they were creating wasn't being much appreciated.
"I know," Lily yelled, jerking up from her chair. "We're very beautiful. But would you please stop gawking at us!" She had implied this cynical sentence at the folks with those protruding eyes that just couldn't help themselves to stare. "Now," Lily sat down, casting glares at everyone, "what were you saying?"
"I was saying," Rhia started. Her face appeared to be a little flushed, "If this was all a joke, how is it that I can read your mind?" Lily thought about this for a second, feeling a wash of idiocy soaking her. "I'm not some cheesy psychic." Rhia added, with a sly smile.
Lily's frown immediately turned upwards; she took the liberty to flash a row of her shiny white teeth (thanks to the delicious toothpaste that had been placed in her bathroom).
"You're right," Lily said. "But you know I would appreciate it if you wouldn't invade my mind all the time. My thoughts are quite valuable and private." Rhia smiled, shaking her head slightly.
Lily then leaned forward, her hands folded together on the surface of the wooden table.
"Now, what was it about my life being in danger?"
(me: to the berry fields we go!) What? What Berry fields? (me: use your imagination you dope!) I am not a DOPE! (me: I have no time to argue with you, I have to post the next part to the story!)
"All right, so let me get this straight," Lily walked along side Rhia, though walking in the most abnormal way--side ways. Her arms were held out as if holding a football, as she tried to recite what Rhia had just told her. "Someone is out to get me. But...we don't know who?" Rhia nodded in consent, pushing the shopping bags up her arms. "And...you're getting visions of me kidnapped, but the nappers face isn't visible?" Rhia stopped in her path, causing Lily to run into a parking sign.
"Ouch..." she mumbled, rubbing her painful nose.
"I didn't say you were being kidnapped." Rhia corrected her, leaning her head to the side. "I said being taken away." Rhia continued to walk, as Lily struggled to catch up to her.
"Same thing." she hurriedly said. "But you're not giving me much to deal with here." Rhia came to an abrupt stop, and this time Lily bumped into the front of a red van.
"Bloody hell..." she murmured, seizing her leg, while attempting to rub her knee from the agony it had just experienced.
"What am I supposed to tell you if you I'm not getting much information myself?" Rhia exclaimed, throwing her arms into the air. Though they didn't seem to go far; the shopping bags had successfully managed to weigh them down. Lily huffed, and ran after Rhia once again.
"Then how is it," she asked, dodging a boy riding a bike, "That you know my life is in danger, if you're not getting enough information?" Lily, receiving the impression that Rhia was to stop again, came to a halt before she was to run into anything else. She was right about Rhia stopping, but unfortunately for the young man walking towards Lily, bounced off her coat and tumbled to the ground.
"I can just sense it!" Rhia cried. Lily threw her a perplexed look, squinting her eyes. "Oh, you won't understand!" Rhia sighed, and took off towards the factory. Lily gazed down to the fallen man who was wincing pain.
"Sorry mate." she shrugged. She stepped over him, and then sprinted towards Rhia.
By the time the two had reached the factory, it had grown dark. As Lily entered the Buckets house, her insides spewed with warmth.
"Hello Bucket's!" she greeted them cheerfully. Even though Lily had just discovered her life was in danger, she hadn't the tiniest feeling of fright. Besides, who would want to kill her?
"Hello Lily!" The Bucket's answered back in unison.
"Just in time for dinner Lily." Mrs. Bucket smiled, setting a plate of chicken on the table. Lily's tummy growled ferociously; she wished no had heard that.
"Someone's hungry." Charlie joked, nudging Lily's side. Lily frowned at him, joining everyone at the table. She reached across the mashed potatoes to grab a chicken leg. Her near moment of joy was taken away when Grandpa Joe just had to ask where Rhia was.
"Oops," Lily giggled, though in her mind she wasn't very happy about dropping her chicken leg, which has accidentally landed on Charlie's plate. "I was so hungry, I almost forgot about Rhia." Glancing sideways at Charlie, she saw a wide smile appear on his face as he eyed the chicken hungrily. "She went to see Willy about something, said she'd be here in a few minutes."
Lily was having a difficult time waiting for the two, she was very hungry. Fidgeting with her hands, huffing, and glancing around the room did not help matters become faster. And then the door swung open, revealing two very lively people.
Finally, Lily thought.
"Took you long enough." Lily scolded them. "We were so worried." She added jokingly. Everyone laughed as Willy and Rhia sat themselves down. Just as everyone began to dig in, Lily smiled and grabbed the chicken leg from Charlie's plate, leaving him with a disappointed face.
Rubbing her belly happily, Lily joyfully cried out how great dinner had been.
"Why thank you Lily." Mrs. Bucket said.
"You're most welcome." Lily thought about the last time she had had dinner, before she had arrived at the factory. That's when she realized, the Bucket's knew nothing about her. They didn't know where she came from, who her parents were, what she did to keep herself visible in this Earth.
"What's wrong Lily?" Grandma Georgina asked, noticing her saddened expression. She shrugged; perhaps this was the time to get to know her better.
"I think I have some explaining to do." said Lily. "I owe you wonderful people an explanation."
"What do you mean?" asked Willy curiously.
"Well, you deserve to know who I am, where I came from." She gazed around at the many faces; she could tell they were all curious.
"Oh Lily," Mrs. Bucket smiled wearily at her. "You don't have to. It's none of our business really."
Lily shook her head, eagerly sitting up.
"No, but I want to." she said. "I supposed it'll make me more comfortable."
"Oh all right." Mrs. Bucket agreed.
(me:I remember walking into a tree once..hurt my nose.) hah, what a loser. (me: *ignoring the reader* It seems that I'm always injuring my nose one way or another.
A good few hours later, Lily had managed to tell the stories of all the bizarre jobs she had once had, and the many places she had lived--including the soggy box. From her favourite color to her least favourite season, Lily had told them everything. Everything except her parents. And she knew that's what mattered the most, where she had came from. Lily figured that soon enough one of them was going to blurt out the question.
"So," Willy asked, raising his eyebrows at the discovery of the soggy box house. "who are your parents?" It was if he had read her mind, was it possible he was a psychic too?
"Willy!" Rhia slapped him playfully on the leg. "That was rude." He scoffed, and merely stated that he was curious.
"It's not as if you weren't all wondering the same thing!" Lily rolled her eyes, and decided to answer the question.
"Benjamin and Charlotte Felice." said Lily. "At least I think that's it." A finger taped at her chin thoughtfully, trying to recall the memory of her parents. "They were young when they first met, or so I was told." Lily made herself more comfortable on the chair, rubbing her hands together. "You see, I was given to my great aunt Evie. She raised me until I turned 14." Charlie pouted his lips as his head wobbled to the side.
"Why's that?" he asked. Lily turned her head towards him, and with a straight face she answered,
"Because she died." Charlie gave her an apologetic look, and she soon carried on. "After she died, there was nothing left for me there. So I decided to look for my parents." Lily remembered that quite well. She had carried a small suitcase everywhere she had went. It was filled with all the money she had left, a couple pairs of warm clothes, and button of her great aunt's that had always caught her attention. She had explained to the Bucket's that her aunt had given her the button just before she died (Lily had always loved the button for some odd reason as a child), though it wasn't much, it was the only part of her family left. "I couldn't stay at my aunt's house, because I knew I would be put into an orphanage, and I didn't want that to happen. So I traveled the streets, avoiding social services and all those bunch of nasty people." Lily took a deep breath, and carried on. "After a few months, I gave up on looking for my parents. They were no where to be found." A small image floated in the back of Lily's head. It was a small girl, wearing a bright red coat that came down to her knees. Big, round black buttons went down the middle of the coat; there were five of them Lily had remembered. There she stood in the middle of the street, lonely, cold, and hungry, with no where to go. "Before Aunt Evie had died, she told me how my parents had me." Willy's eyes widened exceptionally large at this point.
"Please," he prayed. "Don't go into detail." Lily glared at him through her brown eyes.
"I'm not talking about that!" she barked at him. "As I mentioned before, they were young when they had me. Though they weren't married, they were deeply in love. My mother's father, or my grandfather, told my mother to give the baby away...because I was a burden to the family." Lily didn't realize that at this point her eyes had begun to water. "She refused to do such thing, but as soon as I was born my grandfather had taken me and gave me to my great aunt Evie. He then told everyone that I had miraculously appeared at her doorstep in a basket with a letter from my real parents. He was lying, of course, and he never told my mother and father where he had taken me."
Charlie's nose was slowing becoming red; he sniffed.
"Why didn't your aunt Evie tell them?" he asked. Lily shrugged, as if not knowing the answer herself.
"I don't know Charlie." said Lily. "Perhaps because she knew they wouldn't be able to take care of me, and that my grandfather would take me away from them and do much worse."
The room remained silent, not one breath was withdrawn into the lungs.
"Well that's it!" Lily threw her hands up, surprisingly smiling. Everyone else replied with uncomfortable smiles, patting her on the shoulder awkwardly.
"That was beautifully told." commented Rhia. She stood up, and headed for the door. "Well, I'll be off now. Thanks for the dinner Mrs. Bucket; I'll see you all tomorrow. Goodnight sugars!" With that said, she stepped outside, closing the door behind her.
"Best be getting some sleep now Lily," Grandpa George said, patting her leg. "You've got work tomorrow." Lily nodded, and stood up. At the exact same time, Willy had stood up, and his bare hand (he had taken his gloves off, as astonishing as it was) grazed against Lily's. Violently blushing, he turned around in embarrassment (though no one had noticed besides Lily) and hurried towards the door. Lily followed him out the door, after bidding goodnight to the Buckets.
"Willy," she called out after him. "Wait!"
"I don't have time to dilly!" Willy called out, not even slightly turning around. "..or dally!" he added as he reached the door to his room.
"Willy!" Lily quickly ran towards him, just as he was about to close the door. She grabbed his hand, and pulled him out. "You have some serious issues with touching people Mr. Wonka." she complained, shaking her head in worry. Willy stood still, staring awkwardly at Lily. "I just wanted to ask what time I start." His shoulders suddenly relaxed, and he released a breath that he had apparently been holding.
"That's it? That's all you wanted to ask?" Lily raised an eyebrow, and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Why..." she inquired." What did you think?"
"Nothing!" he stated instantly, his face straight as a pin. "You start at 8:00 a.m.!" He turned around to open the door, but Lily grabbed his arm again.
"Wait," she said eagerly. "Not going to say goodnight? Where are your manners?" she smiled. Teasing Willy had to be the most fun she had had in ages.
"Goodnight." he said hurriedly.
"Goodnight." Lily smiled, and with one last thing on her mind to torment Willy, she leaned over (after standing on her tippy toes) and kissed him on the cheek.
As Lily's lips met with Willy's soft cheek, she could have sworn that it tasted just like chocolate.
oo, a kiss on the cheeks, how exciting. (me: keep up that attitude and I might just replace YOU with another reader.) O.O
