All We Have... (Obito) Part 7
Hey everyone (:. Sorry about the long wait. I've just been totally caught up in school work and such, really. The only reason why I got this chapter done was 'cause I'd take a little bit of time I had updating every few weeks. So, I managed to type up the usual 13 pages (:. Thanks for being patient and not bombarding me with lots of nasty messages, it'll only delay the update anyway. :D THANKS FOR THE LOVELY BANNER, CrimsonxNightmare!I was missing something.
I glanced up at the sky, expecting stars to twinkle down on me, rewarding me with their lovely, faint glows. But I saw none.
They were gone.
Other than the full moon, no other light had been present tonight. How odd.
My lips jerked into a frown, aware of the strange unfamiliar feeling of lost was slowly building up inside my chest.
It was unusual I'd feel so morbid when returning from a mission-- that never happens. Sure, I had some tough, emotional times on a few missions, but I'd get over it. Then, I'd bask myself in heroic glory, the stars would usually enhance the effect, but not tonight.
There were no stars, and there was no pride of being a shinobi in my heart.
Maybe that's what had been misplaced from the mood? Somehow, I couldn't convince myself that the stars were the causes to the uneasiness that inundated my being. Something else was sending the chills down my spine and the waves of alert up to my brain, but I couldn't place my finger on it...
"Obito, we're almost home."
I turned away from the approaching sight of Konoha, our home that sat eerily still in the distance. My nerves were calmed only slightly as I caught sight of Yokaze, bathed in moonlight, the only source of illumination we had at the time.
"Obito?" her voice had been soft, almost a whisper as she tried to maintain her anxiety, but her eyes flashed with angst, betraying her. No doubt she had felt the unnerving force that seemed to have heightened the closer we got to home. "Is something the matter?"
She regarded me, struggling to keep her emotions placid and unperturbed, had it not been those deep azure orbs of hers, she might've pulled off faking those emotions. Seeing Yokaze, who usually did not panic, increased my exposed distraught. I inevitably shivered. "Something's...wrong." I was surprised at how weak my voice sounded as I replied, Yokaze didn't seem to notice, but she nodded at me, agreeing. "It's been bugging me for a while now." I continued, more strongly this time, the tenseness in my tone lingered.
"I..." I glanced at my friend, waiting for her to speak words of comfort, to ease my pestering fears of 'missing' some important ingredient to a fulfilled mission. But judging by the grim line her lips formed and the low tone she was using, I figured what she was going to say, was nothing that would've brighten me up. "I don't know what's going on," her eyes traveled back to our seemingly unsullied village, worry consuming them, "But what ever I'm feeling is nothing good. If anything... I feel as if a large piece of Konoha has...vanished."
It was clear to me that something bad has happened.
I quickened my pace.
-------------------------------------------------
Yokaze watched Obito's figure halt in his tracks ahead of her, his body looked tense, stiff. When she caught up to the still man, she gasped his name, out of breath, "You didn't have to rush off..." her short sentence trailed off as she turned her eyes upon what her teammate had been staring at so intensely.
Not that long a ways off from the two were a large group of ANBU shinobi. They were gathered around a man with silver hair as he gave out orders. When the ninjas received the commands, they loudly sounded out a "YES SIR!" and disassembled, leaving Kakashi and a pair of black ops behind.
"Kakashi!" Obito and Yokaze ran over to their friend, who seemed to stiffened at the distressed call. "Kakashi, what happened?!" Obito had prodded forlornly, his eyes wide with fear. He wasn't certain why he was feeling so anxious. Wasn't it possible ANBU just had a late mission? Wasn't it possible Kakashi left Naruto with who knows who for some simple mission? Wasn't it possible Kakashi was looking at him so gravely and remorsefully because the man just looked sad tonight?
...Wasn't it?
There was a long quiet wait before Kakashi let out a sigh. He solemnly bowed his head.
"Obito..." the somber tone only alarmed Obito more.
"What is it? Why are you acting so funny, huh?" Yokaze worriedly looked over at Obito, whose voice had suddenly started to quiver. There wasn't even a hint of blithe in the chuckle that had followed.
Kakashi ignored the oddity and turned back to the other two ANBU who waited for him silently. He whispered a short request and they disappeared, splitting up in different directions. His eye then focused on Obito again, "You have to listen to me, Obito. You can't lose control of yourself. What I am about to tell you... isn't going to make you happy..."
Kakashi stopped in his sentence, his attention, along with Obito and Yokaze's darted towards sounds of footsteps. They heard a loud cry, a panicked shout of a name, "Yokaze-senpai! Yokaze-senpai!"
Running up to them had been a young man, dressed in the usual attire of a Jounin. "Kenji," Yokaze had realized who the ninja had been when Kenji reached the three, looking unnaturally pale and frightened. "What's wrong, Kenji? Why are you..." she looked at his uniform, noticing how much darker they were, "Why are you covered in blood?"
Trying to keep his composure steady, Kenji took a deep breath and replied in a much more softer voice, "They're... they're all dead," he breathed, throwing a wary glance towards Obito. Noticing the older ninja watching anxiously, Kenji's eyes lowered as he uttered shakily, "The Uchiha Clan was massacred."
No one said a word, no sound followed, only distant cries from afar, probably from the Uchiha compound, could be heard. In the most hushed tone Yokaze has ever heard Obito use, he asks, "...What?" he spun around to stare at Kakashi, his eyes wide with shock and skepticism, "What?!"
"Obito, look, calm down..." Kakashi tried to quiet down Obito, placing a hand on his shoulder, but he violently jerked away.
"No, no..." Obito had instead started to proceed forward, away from the group, clearly ignoring what ever words Kakashi wanted to nurse him with. "They're not dead. They're not dead... they're not dead."
While Kakashi and Yokaze worriedly watched Obito sprint away to his home, Kenji had finally remembered why he was sent out. "Yokaze-senpai, the Hokage wants you out there immediately... he asked me to get you..." he shook his head, placing his face in his hands, "It's horrible... all of it..."
Yokaze hadn't spoken. She had been too stunned to say anything, even to comfort Obito. Her throat felt dry when she inaudibly replied, "Thank you, Kenji," she quickly gathered her nerves as she had been taught many times before and hardened herself. She wouldn't be able to accomplish much if she was a shaken wreck.
"I'll come with you," Kakashi says, starting to run with the woman as she followed after Kenji. "I'm afraid the dead will not be the only ones who will need our help."
-------------------------------------------------
"Dead, all of them."
The words left her mouth quietly, sounding unbelievable and eerie in the night. Yokaze and some other medics under her had checked the whole compound for any survivors, for anybody that could've had the chance to live. Their killer wasn't so merciful.
Yokaze had just finished checking Uchiha Mikoto and Fugaku's corpses in their room. She had been disgusted when they had been found. They were slaughtered to the point of being undistinguishable.
"Not all of them," Kakashi reminds, his eye tearing away from the two bodies that laid motionless on the floor, "that kid is still alive..." he paused before adding, "and Obito."
They shared an uneasy look as they proceeded out of the room. Yokaze was thankful, even she, a medical ninja, grew ill at ease around the dead. It was natural, Tsunade had told her many years ago. Yokaze and her sensei were on duty, checking bodies after a raid, when they left the scene, Yokaze had cried. The feeling around the dead was... sad and grotesque. Humans knew lots about death, the causes, the effects. But the living will never understand how it feels like to be them. And it was only natural that people feared what they could not understand.
"How is he?" she asks when she and Kakashi turned a corner.
He gave her a glance, looking none too happy, "Not good," he shook his head, "He left to the hospital with..." Kakashi couldn't remember the little boy's name, he could remember his oldernow. brother's name...well, everyone can
"Sasuke." Yokaze provides, getting a muffled 'yes' from he ninja besides her.
"He didn't want to leave him alone."
"I can understand that," the kunoichi frowned sullenly, recalling her own memories, "he probably feels some paranoia of losing Sasuke, seeing how he's the only one left of the clan. I remember that night when my clan died, I held onto Naruto for dear life...I was so scared of being alone."
Kakashi carefully eyed Yokaze as they walked down the long hall together, approaching the front of the house. He was surprised at how open she was being with him, and how different she looked. The Uzumaki didn't look like the tough gal with a too sharp of a tongue. The woman looked strangely sad and tranquil...she even looked gentle in this state.
'She's probably thinking about... that day.'
"Yokaze." Kakashi's voice brought the attentiveness back to Yokaze as she realized they had reached the front, now packed with ninjas of all kinds, working. Kenji had jogged up to the pair, looking even sicker than he did before.
"Uchiha Mikoto and Uchiha Fugaku are inside their room," Yokaze informs the younger ninja, not missing the dismayed expression on his face deepening, "Get them out." She ordered, getting a simple nod.
Just as Kakashi and Yokaze were about to part ways with the medic ninja, his shivering voice stopped them, "Y-Yokaze-senpai..." said woman looked at Kenji, her eyes questioning, she asked what was wrong. "It's... it's a tragic thing. What happened here...to all these innocent people."
"Yes, yes it is, Kenji." His superior agreed, saddened at the reality.
He let a moment of silence pass before finding his words again, "...It's too much for me, I don't think I will go through with this, being a medic..." he looks down at his bloody, sweat covered hands, "It's all too... heartless."
-------------------------------------
"Ano sa, ano sa, nee-chan," Naruto peered up curiously at his sister, who was holding his hand, "Why are we here? And what is Kashi-nii-san doing here? And where is Obito-nii-san?!" He looked from Yokaze, to Kakashi, and back to his sister, hoping to get some sort of answer.
"We're in the hospital because, Naruto, we're going to see Obito," she then nodded at Kakashi, "he is here because he wants to see Obito-nii-san as well."
Kakashi gave a short wave to Naruto, he then apologizes to the child for waking him up so late and leaving him at Asuma's. "I don't like Asuma's house," Naruto muttered, scrunching up his nose, he adds, "it was stinky." Kakashi had chuckled in reply, agreeing that it was indeed "stinky." Being a kid with a short attention span, Naruto remembered once more of their early morning walk in the hospital, and how his hero was in the scary "doctor place." "What? Obito-nii-san is in the hospital?! Is he hurt?!"
Smiling sadly, Yokaze gives a small nod, "In a way, yes. His body is fine though, it's not that that's injured."
Naruto stared at his sister, inquiring her quietly. He then lifted a finger up to his chest, the look in his clear, blue eyes reflecting the pained expression in hers. "His heart hurts, nee-chan?"
Yokaze is quiet and does not say anything as the trio made their way down the hall of the hospital, finally reaching the room it was said Obito and Sasuke had been staying in.
The three walked inside the room, disturbing the silence with their footsteps as they made their way to a figure that was looming over a sleeping Sasuke.
"Obito." Yokaze calls out softly after a long moment of waiting.
As if startled, Obito winced, rearing around to see his friends with wide eyes. When he recognized the newcomers, his eyes relaxed and regarded them tiredly. "Oh, it's you guys." He mumbled dejectedly, then looked back at the unconscious Sasuke.
"You almost sound disappointed." Kakashi puts out, most likely trying to loosen up the stifling anxiety. Hearing not even a sound of a snicker, Kakashi frowned deeply, "Sorry." He apologizes after getting a light glare thrown at him from Yokaze.
Obito gives a shrug before looking back at Sasuke, his steady breathing was the only sign that he had been alive. "He should be awake in a few days," Yokaze says as she approached the bed, leaving Naruto with Kakashi, "The doctors told me he was going to be fine. Itachi had...--"
"Don't you ever mention that name around me." Obito growled lowly, taking Yokaze back by surprise.
Her eyes kept steady focus on Obito, not looking mad, but compassionate.
Cooperatively, she nods her head slowly, "Yes. I'm sorry," Obito, looking irritated and enraged, jerks back to Sasuke, leaving Yokaze to continue with her analysis, "his coma wasn't serious. He'll be able to leave in a few days. Two at the least."
Obito doesn't say a word as his friends watched him, waiting.
Figuring Obito was probably not in the mood for company, Kakashi walks up by Yokaze, "We're going to go, Obito. We'll come back and see how you're doing..." he nudged his head towards Yokaze, signaling her to leave, "If you need us, we'll come right away."
Not looking as if he had heard anything, the older Uchiha kept staring solemnly at the comatose Sasuke.
Kakashi and Yokaze looked at one another, both mirroring worry in their eyes. With a final look at him, the three quietly left the room, leaving the last two Uchiha's alone.
When they were outside, the door shut behind them, Naruto pulled on his sister's sleeve, averting her hurt filled eyes down at her brother, who looked at her with equal sadness.
In a hush tone, Naruto asks, "Will Obito-nii-san be okay?"
Kakashi watches the corner of Yokaze's lips pull downward more than before as she shakes her head, grasped onto Naruto's small hand tighter.
"I don't know."
-------------------------------------
"...Itachi...killer.."
"...the whole clan, dead..."
"Obito and Sasuke...only survivors...clan is doomed..."
Voices floated through the air, drifting pass anyone in a three feet radius. Kakashi heard all of it. Knew all of it already and even more. His eye glanced over at the clock. The meeting didn't start until 10:00 AM... but people were already discussing the big problem at hand.
He sat in the front of the rows of chairs, his arms crossed over his chest as he lazily stared at the blank wall in front of him, listening in on whatever conversation took place nearby.
It was until he felt a familiar present sit beside him, he had torn his gaze away from the starch barrier. He grinned, "This seat is taken."
Yokaze spared Kakashi a light glare before leaning back into the chair, situating herself, "Yes, by me." She mutters decisively.
After a short laugh, Kakashi looked back at the front of the room, noting that the three seats were not occupied as of yet. "It's pretty hectic," he comments, feeling her stare on his face, "I wonder what they're going to say." By "they" Kakashi had been referring to the Hokage and the elders.
"Not much, I would imagine. We'll just discuss what all of us already know and plans on how we may pursue Itachi," Yokaze gives a shrug, looking bored, "shall I continue?"
"I get the idea." He assured his comrade with a slight nod before looking back at the front, where the three awaited politicians had just arrived, seating them selves. "...I'm guessing Obito's not coming."
Yokaze is quiet for a moment before sighing, and shaking her head.
The room had silenced when Sandaime Hokage looked out sternly at his elite ninjas as they all waited. "As you all know by now," he started, hoarsely, "a great tragedy has fell upon us..."
As the solemn words floated through the air, a sense of deja vu struck Yokaze. Her eyes teared at the thought of Obito's current state...and just how much it could possibly change him.
It had happened to her when she was just a young girl. She knew how it felt, and it was thanks to Obito she had developed into such a happier person...
And it worried her. What if she couldn't do the same for him?
"Last night, the entire Uchiha clan was massacred, " a few gasps could be heard in the crowd. Yokaze wondered if it was just for the effect of the horrible episode, or some people actually hadn't been aware of the killing. 'Kinda hard to miss, seeing how everyone is talking about it... not to mention the strong stench of blood in the air...'
"According to some witnesses and the confirmation of our medical team, we can conclude that the murderer of the clan is indeed Uchiha Itachi."
Around her, Yokaze felt the tension of the room, the silence only made it more penetrating. Itachi. A ninja that was bound to be something extraordinary, a prodigy, like Hatake Kakashi. He was already an ANBU captain before he left Konoha, and he was only thirteen.
"Nothing appeared to be wrong," Yokaze remembered hearing as she past through the hallway, she had happen to overhear some ANBU talking amongst themselves about the teenager, "When he left for home, he acted like he always did. He smiled and waved goodbye."
The kid had so much ahead of him, so many opportunities other shinobi of this age would kill for... why did he do it, especially to his own clan, his family?
"What course of action, shall we take then, Hokage-sama?"
The Sandaime regarded all of the ninjas in the room with a grim expression, not a trace of grief was on his face, but it was there. All that anguish was very visible in those gentle, charcoal eyes. "We will try to locate Itachi, and when we find him, we will bring him back to Konoha."
"What if we can't bring him back?" was the next question, the question that brought back the hard, stern look back into his eyes, eyes of a strong ruler.
"Then, annihilate him."
-------------------------------------------
After the meeting was over and the first squad of ninjas was assigned, the shinobi were dismissed. It had been a long, and tiring conference filled with depressing, gory details and anger. It had started from 10:00 AM and had dragged out all the way to the evening. There was so much information, so much things to do. Yokaze and a few other medic ninjas were given the task to record the causes of death of the dead Uchiha, and to perform examinations on them on how they were killed and what methods might've been used.
She was sickened at the thought. Yokaze was never one to like working with the dead, she always preferred the screaming living to the silent dead.
All that talk of Itachi was probably what made her most upset. Something about cold-blooded murdering traitors made her blood boil, especially the ones that hurt the people she took a liking to. It hurt Obito, the loss of his family. She was aware that the vivacious man didn't have the best of relationships with his clan, but he did love them, some of them at least.
'I'm glad Obito was out on that mission,' Yokaze thought, sincere in her gratefulness. Ever since she had seen the bodies of the no longer living Uchiha's, that thought had always crossed her mind. 'if he had faced Itachi... he probably would not be here.'
She played the image through her mind, what if Obito had been home and was killed along with his clan? He would've probably been lying in his home, dead on his living room floor, behind his orange goggles would've been empty eyes, staring hauntingly at her. 'I don't know what I'd do if I saw him...'
At the thought of Obito, Yokaze took a right turn to the hospital, quickening her stride towards the white building. Upon entering, she was greeted respectfully from some other medical ninja and a few nurses. Being a student of a Legendary Sannin, one whose specialty was in medics, Yokaze was well known through out the hospital.
The Uzumaki woman strode up to the main desk, immediately catching the person behind it's attention, "What's Uchiha Sasuke's condition, Ame-san?"
A nurse of about the same age as Yokaze glanced through some notes that had been specially left aside in its own pile, "He came out of his coma in the afternoon, Yokaze-sensei and appears to be healthy. He just had his dinner and is resting now." She replies with a grin, the blonde haired woman returned her own relieved smile.
"That's good to hear, very good," she paused as she did a quick look over of the information, "I presume Obito-san is still by his side?" there was kindness in her tone as she said this. She wasn't sure if it had been the alleviating thought of Sasuke's condition, or that Obito was so dedicated and caring that caused the softness.
The long pause caused her to look up, throwing Ame a curious expression, "Well?"
Ame's eyes were wide with stupefied shock, "You mean, you don't know where he is?"
Yokaze frowned, "No, I was at a meeting with the Hokage and ninjas all day," she began to worry, "Where is he?"
"We don't know, Yokaze-sensei, all of us thought he left to seek you out. He just walked out of the hospital without uttering a word. He did that after Sasuke woke up."
Yokaze loudly sighed, feeling fatigue. She muttered something about not being in the mood for this, and then briskly walked away and out of the hospital.
For two hours, Yokaze searched the whole village, frequently checking Ichiraku's, aware of how vicious Obito's appetite was. She wasn't sure he'd be in an eating mood, but every time she came around, she hoped to see him, slurping away some miso ramen.
"No luck?"
A worn out Yokaze shook her head and seated herself upon one of the stools of the ramen stand, "No."
The old man places a cold cup of water, which Yokaze accepts and drinks.
"He's nowhere, and I'm worried," she puts down the empty cup on the counter, "I hope he isn't doing anything stupid."
"Ah, Yokaze, such a tragic thing happened to that poor boy, he is prone to doing foolish things," the owner says, smiling sadly at the blonde, "in a time such as this, I would believe he would be grieving."
"Grieving," Yokaze breathes, having her own flashbacks. The old man nods. "Thanks, oji-san," putting some change on the counter, Yokaze slides off her seat, slowly walking away, "I think I got an idea where he might be."
While she was still in earshot, the old man said, "That's good. It's always nice to know that one isn't alone especially at a time like this."
-------------------------------------------------
The strong stench of iron clung to the air, as fresh as it had been the night of the massacre, causing a wave of uneasiness to pass over an already unnerved Yokaze. She warily examined the abandoned Uchiha compound. Its dark buildings looking ever so ominous against the unlit, evening sky, no sounds could be heard. All the ninjas had completed what needed to be done on the scene of the crime, and now the area was closed off.
It was somewhat scary for Yokaze. Sure, she was usually a brave, straightforward, strong type of gal, but the idea... the vibes of Death just sent chills down her spine.
Pushing down whatever doubts that might've reached her thoughts, Yokaze entered the compound, determined to find her friend. 'There isn't any other place in Konoha I haven't check,' she reminds herself, avoiding looking in on any unlit homes for too long, 'He has to be here.'
She surveyed the area, her eyes quickly adjusting to the darkness. If there were any movements, she wouldn't be able to miss it.
Continuing down the road, Yokaze slowly started feeling disheartened. There wasn't a sign of Obito. Just as she was about to reach the end of the street, a loud crashing sound erupted behind her. This sent her into a defensive position with her chakra flaring as she turned around, already glaring at her target.
"...It's just me," Obito, still dressed in the clothes he wore the night they had returned to Konoha, kicked away buckets of some sort that were knocked down.
Shoulders slackening in relief, Yokaze sighed, "Obito," she smiled softly at him, inwardly overjoyed at finding the Uchiha. "I've been looking all over Konoha for you, literally. I was...worried."
All the while Yokaze had been talking, Obito had approached her lethargically, his expression, melancholic. "I've been here the whole time." he quietly responds, stopping to stand in front of her, his hands shoved in his pockets as he slouched.
Yokaze doesn't utter a word as she inspected him quietly. Obito looked exhausted, mentally drained. He had dark circles under his eyes, the eyes themselves looked abnormal and drowsy. His lips were dragged down into a frown, emphasizing the depressed look on his porcelain face. Even his ridiculous goggles were gone, the object Yokaze had associated his youth and lovable childish personality.
"Why are you here?" Obito's low voice had brought Yokaze out of her thoughts, causing her to calmly make eye contact with those sad, deep onyx orbs.
"Like I said, I was worried," Yokaze answers softly, careful not to sound harsh, something she tend to do especially to Obito. "I went to visit you and Sasuke and the nurse told me you left and I went to look for you."
For a moment, a flash of surprise past through Obito's face before retaining the gray expression, "Well, I'm fine." He mutters, his stare averting to the ground.
Letting a long silence pass the two, Yokaze sighs before placing a hand on Obito's shoulder, then with a kind smile, she asks, "Would you like to talk about it?"
Obito stared at her, his own gaze seeming to soften, "There's only so much I can say, Kaze."
The mention of her nickname brought some hope back inside the Uzumaki, maybe Obito had a chance of recovering and not becoming like she had, cold and bitter towards the world.
"I know how it feels..." she starts as she looked to the skies, her eyes wandering the star speckled sea, as if she was searching, "it's painful to lose your family. After mine died, I don't think I've ever felt so alone before," Obito watched as sadness took over Yokaze's once placid demeanor, his heart aching even more as he watched a loved one suffer of the same pain he was.
"I felt so horrible. I felt as if it had been my fault. As if I had let them all down and allowed them to slip from my fingers," From looking at the night sky, her eyes shifted towards the city, in the direction of where her home had been. "That's probably why I'm so protective of little Naruto. If I ever let him down... if I ever..." Yokaze took in a sharp breath, forcing the tears down, "If I ever lost him... that'd be it."
Finally, her teary gaze meets Obito, his own eyes starting to water. "You know, if he ever lost you, that'd be it for him too," he whispered.
"Yeah, we live for each other... we are our own family," Yokaze smiles, still trying to push away the tears, "Understand, Obito, this goes the same for you and Sasuke," slowly, Yokaze pulls Obito into an embrace, protecting him from the shrouding darkness that surrounded them, "Of course, Naruto couldn't live without you either... I swear, he loves you more than he loves me..."
For the first time for what seemed like forever, Yokaze hears the comforting chortles from Obito, although there was an inkling of sadness, he was laughing none the less. "Just Naruto? Aren't you missing someone?" he quietly asks, his return of the hug easing her fears of the desolate compound.
"I wasn't gonna bring up Kakashi..."
The pair chuckled. Then, Obito dug his face into golden masses of hair, hiding his crying eyes. The two stood still, allowing the man to shed his pain.
Muffled sobs could be heard as Yokaze cradled the crying Obito, stroking his hair, trying to soothe him. She held back the rising pain inside her as memories of her past came back to her. Those lonely nights as a young girl, she remembered she never shed a tear in front of her baby brother.
She'd tuck him in at night, showered him as much love as she could, she fought the animosity the village threw at him. After he had fallen sound asleep, she would stay up at night, protecting him... a lot of the time, she cried and prayed to her clan, hoping they would grant her strength to go against the world. Yokaze clearly remembers the empty feeling inside and those cold winter day she would long for her parents' warm hugs and kisses as she tried to provide the same treatment for her own sibling.
It was a long, and lonely journey... but she stayed alive. Besides, it all hadn't been bad, because of her behavior, she gotten the attention of a certain "annoying" guy.
"The best thing you can do for your clan, Obito, is to live on," Yokaze provides, suddenly feeling newborn confidence in her, "Protect what you have left. And..." Pulling Obito away from her neck, she stared into blurred eyes, "And, my dear, don't you ever feel alone. Remember, you still have us, your family."
Obito never found out what it had been that made the sick, lost feeling inside him vanish. Had it been Yokaze's genuine, simple smile, or the kind words she had spoke to him whether they were true or false (he liked to think she had been sincere), but whatever it had been, it had helped him feel the first step of recovering and returning.
