"Bert, I think we're lost."
"Eliza, I think you're crazy."
"Bert, you're ridiculous."
"Quinn shut up."
We burst into laughter, licking our ice creams, and smiling. Bert shoved me playfully and I slumped into Quinn. Quinn pushed me back and I leaned on Bert. Bert let me stay there and I was comfortable with that.
"But seriously, where the hell are we?"
"Chicago."
I giggled into Bert's shoulder. "I know that."
"We're on a bench in Chicago?" Quinn supplied and I waved my ice cream cone at him.
"Aw darn it fell off!" I frowned at the ball of splattered ice cream on the asphalt. "Quinny?"
"No."
"Please?" I gave him my amazing puppy eyes. He shook his head.
"No, you can't have my ice cream."
"Damn you." And I began eating the rest of my cone.
"So, you and Andy seemed chummy today?"
I groaned, sitting up and away from Bert McCracken's comfy shoulder. "And why does it matter to you Robert? And where is your girlfriend?"
"Bert with a girlfriend?" Quinn chuckled.
"What?"
"His last girlfriend dumped him for Gerard Way."
My jaw dropped. I gazed at Bert who was conveniently looking in another direction. "Is that why you two aren't friends anymore?"
"Partly, but it's none of your business either." Bert jumped up, stretched and started walking down the sidewalk. The infamous lead singer stopped and looked back at us with a smirk. "C'mon slow pokes we've got a parking lot to find."
It took a moment for me to realize he was walking away. I was still wrapped up in the thought of him and Gerard. It didn't really make much sense. Wouldn't it have been in the tabloids?
"Eliza, wake up," Quinn said as he tapped me on the head. "He's gonna leave us if we dont hurry up."
I laughed, "He wouldn't do that!"
"Maybe not," Quinn got this funny look on his face as he walked next to me.
"What is it?"
"Nothing," he shook his head and smiled. I stared at him for a moment then shrugged.
"Tag," I pushed him, "You're it." I laughed as I ran to Bert, jumping on his back once I was near enough.
"Whoa!" Bert laughed and spun around making me dizzy. He didn't put me down though. So we walked with me getting a piggy back from Robert McCracken and Quinn laughing beside us.
The street light flashed green for "walk" while the cars went to a halt. And we walked across and once upon the other side Bert set me down on my own feet.
He pulled me into a store and Quinn fallowed quickly behind us. The store was a small deli with a pudgy man with a turban working behind the counter. We smiled sweetly at him as we ducked behind a self.
"What the hell is going on?"
"We're being fallowed," Bert hissed as he pretended to look at a package of potato chips.
"Great," I slumped against a wall.
"We'll have to split up again," Quinn was watching the door as he whispered this.
"Hell no!" I jumped up. "I thought we're supposed to stick together."
"How about this," Bert huddled close to hear Quinn's plan. "I'll distract them while you two make a brake for it. Once I get away I'll call you and well meet up."
"That'll work."
"That's a stupid plan," I crossed my arms and glared at them.
"C'mon Eliza it's our only chance."
"Our only chance my ass."
"Don't be a b!tch."
"Don't be a f**king a-hole."
"We're going through with it," Bert grabbed my arm and started pulling me toward the door.
"Ow, let go."
"Hey," the clerk pointed at Bert. "You heard the lady. Let her go or I'll call the cops."
Bert let go, "There is no need for that."
The clerk glared at us as we left the store.
It was then they made their move.
"Hey! You're Quinn and Bert from The Used!" It was just a bunch of teenagers. They didn't look so terrible.
"Yeah, do you guys want some autographs or something?" Quinn started signing things this way and that. He chatted with them and made all their eyes go to him. I was amazed he had that sort of magic. They didn't even notice when Bert and I slipped down the street.
"Wow that was super easy."
"Quinn comes in handy in situations like this."
"That's the understatement of the year."
"Oh I can think of a better understatement."
"Oh and that would be?"
"That I like you."
I was confused. "How is that an understatement?"
"Because."
"Because of what?" As we turned down a lonely side street I found myself being pressed against him as his lips crashed upon mine.
Something burst. Something passionate must've devoured my thoughts and stole my reasoning because I kissed him back. I kissed him back enthusiastically.
Then it was over and he was whispering in my ear, "Because of that."
Oh was all I managed to say.
Do you remember the first time you made out? Probably not, but I remember. I remember how it made my knees knock and my legs wobbly. If I try hard enough then I can still feel the tingles washing through my body and washing away commonsense. Sometimes I can even feel the pure pleasure and giddiness. How your insides twist and your private parts dance around like you're on the most amazing high ever. The pure bliss of it is so hard to come by again. The feeling of being complete and loved, the security it makes a person feel is impossible to duplicate.
Bert duplicated it.
You know you want me so bad.
Yup. Banners and loveins!
