"My Belle, come look at this one for Candace," Derrick said, calling me over from the book department of the store towards the photo frames.
"Derrick, anything that’s pink or has to do with cheerleaders will be something she’ll love," I told him, rolling my eyes before returning to the back of the book in my hands. "Stupid book costs twenty-six dollars!" I whispered harshly, more to myself than anyone else.
"Magen… come look, please"” He begged, flipping his shaggy black hair out of his eyes and smiling at me. Stupid smile, every damn time I say no he just has to pull that pathetic smile.
"Oh my god Derrick, I swear if I’m coming over there to look at another one of a soccer ball I’m going to hurt you! She’s not into our sport, she’s a cheerleader."
"Then maybe you should go back to your book," he said, hiding the frame behind his back.
"For goodness sake! Hand over the wallet, I’m getting her gift," I told him, holding out my hand impatiently; to which he rolled his eyes but handed over the wallet anyways after taking out a fifty dollar bill. I immediately walked out of the store and towards the candle and crafts store where I worked, and went towards the corner of the room there was a pink, cinnamon candle with a picture frame that held a set of pompoms and a megaphone, and walking to the counter where Lisa was working.
"Hey Lisa, could you ring this up for me?" I asked her, putting the candle on the counter and smirking at Derrick as he finally walked into the store, a bag in hand.
"Yeah, no problem," she said, smiling at the two of us and then ringing up the set. After chatting with Lisa while she checked us out, we walked towards Spencer’s Gifts, where He went straight for the hats, and I the glasses. It was kind of a tradition of ours. We’d take pictures of us being goofy every Christmas trip, and then we’d post them in our lockers for the rest of the year for us to laugh at whenever we’re feeling down.
"Hey, My Belle, check out the hat," Derrick said, laughing as he poked his head over a rack of t-shirts. I looked at him, and immediately cracked up as I saw him in the boob hat from Little Nicky.
"You’re stupid," I said as I put on the glasses from Harry Potter and made a funny face to which he grinned.
"Hey guys, over here!" We heard his girlfriend say. To which he groaned and slipped the hat off his head before she saw it. I sent him a goodbye smile before ducking around the corner, and slipping off the glasses, and walking out of the store.
"Get caught again?" I heard from behind me as I ducked out of the mall and went towards the car.
"Holy sh!t Garrett, you just gave me a heart attack," I said, holding a hand to my heart as I leaned against my car.
"Sorry babe," he said smirking from in front of me.
"Get in loser, I’m in the mood for a movie," I told him, getting into the car myself and changing the station from 92.5 kiss fm to 101.5 the river for Christmas music
"Wow, you really must not like that he’s dating her again," he said as he pointed to the small / on my arm, no bigger than an inch.
"She treats him like sh!t and won’t let him talk to me, of course I hate it," I said, anger flooding through me as I thought bout how I helped him pick out a gift.
"Magen, if he can’t see that he deserves better than maybe he doesn’t deserve what you’re hinting at."
"What exactly am I hinting at?" I asked him, praying to God that it wasn’t obvious I was talking about myself.
"It’s clear as air that you like him. Just not to him. Ashleigh won’t shut up about in to Danniera, and Danniera told her to shove it or do something about it."
"Man, you’re almost as bad as Candace," I told him, laughing as he made a contorted face.
"I am not," he said defiantly as he leaned backwards in the seat.
"You are."
"I am not," he said, sitting straight and staring at me.
"You really are," I told him, glancing at him as I came up to a stoplight.
"Would Candace do this?" He asked me, before he placed his fingers below my chin and made me face him before his lips hit mine. His lips tasted sugary, and he wasn’t a bad kisser at all, but before anything actually happened, the car behind me honked it’s horn for me to go and he pulled away grinning.
"If we were a movie, you’d be the right guy, and I’d be the right girl…"
"Hello?" I asked into my phone.
"Why the he11 did you just kiss him!?" Derrick blared into my ear.
"Where the he11 are you that you saw it?" I asked him, panicking a smidgen as I caught a glimpse of the car behind me, and saw two shadows.
"That doesn’t matter! Just, why the he11 were you kissing him!?"
"Don’t worry about it, you have your girlfriend and I don’t say anything," I told him, before I realized what it was I said.
"You’re dating now and you didn’t say anything. Sh1t Magen, Candace is right, you are a b!tch," he said and hung up the phone as tears welled in my eyes. He never called me Magen. I stared hard at the road before taking a different turn and telling Garrett I wasn’t in the mood for a movie anymore, and dropping him off at his house.
"If you need me, call me Magen," he said as he got out of the car, but as soon as his door shut I let the tears fall and pulled down the street, and took a turn that would eventually lead me to the park by my house and Derrick’s.
I parked my car and got out, leaving my cell phone in the passenger seat. I walked in the dark towards the hill. Our hill, as in the hill where we first met after I had just moved here. Only, there was a figure on the hill, and this one didn’t look familiar what so ever. In fact, the figure had long hair, and was rather short.
"It’s about freaking time," she said when she turned around and saw me, and made me gasp once I’d seen her.
"What do you want? You already got your wish of me staying away from my best friend," I told Candace as I saw Ashleigh standing by the car in the other parking lot.
"Thanks to you, he just went home to drink. Now tell me why you’re that important but when he found out I was cheating on him with his brother, he didn’t even care, but yet he still stayed together with me. Hm…? Could it be because you’re seeing each other without my knowing? Ha. Please bitch, like any one would miss you, you’re bigger than Ashley is, I just chose to let him have a little fun before I beat the sh!t out of you for not listening," she said ranted, glaring daggers at me and smirking all the while.
"Fu.ck off, you don’t deserve to be talking to her," someone said from behind me, once again, scaring the sh!t out of me. I slowly turned around as I watched Candace’s face turn to puppy eyes and a fake smile, and saw my childhood crush and Derrick’s best friend, Max.
"We’re old friends just catching up," she said, her gaze flickering towards me as a warning. Ha, like that’ll sop me from having him beat her ass. This bitch deserves it if she thinks she can threaten me more than once.
"Max, you wouldn’t choose her over me, would you?" She asked lightly draping her hand across his chest.
"Considering you lied out loud by saying she’s fat when she’s smaller than most girls who aren’t anorexic, but bigger than you because you are, yes, I’m choosing her, but for more reasons than just that. Now fu.ck off before I tell Derrick about you stealing his money," he said, and she glared at the both of us before walking off and towards Ashleigh, and they soon drove off.
"Thanks," I told him, sitting on the hill, still letting tears fall from my eyes, and he wiped them away with the sleeve of his hoody.
"You don’t deserve her sh!t, no one does," he said, pulling me closer so I could lean against him.
"It’s not her. It’s the fact Derrick believes her. He saw Garrett kiss me, but we all know he’s gay and he was doing it to be funny, but he called me from his car behind us at a stoplight and told me I’m a b!tch and that Candace was right. How could he say that, let alone believe it?" I asked Max, sniffing into the cold, making him hug me tighter.
"He’s jealous Magen Isabelle, that’s all it is. Don’t take him seriously."
That’s all it took for me to kiss him right then and there. I slowly pulled away from his chocolate tasting lips, and looked into his eyes and saw him looking back at mine. After a few brief moments, our lips were caressing each other once more, only at a more rapid pace, and his hands were rested on my hips as my hands were entangled in his shaggy hair.
"Fu.ck!" We both heard, and turned to see Derrick looking at us with a look of hatred, but not matching.
