Oh god, i'm going senile. I've just nearly posted chapter five. I finished it about half an hour ago, feeling really pleased myself, it was long, and i think my writings a hell of a lot better in that chapter, and i loaded it on here and was ready to post when i realsised i was only up to number three on here *shakes head at self*
Anyway, sorry for the long delay in my updating, both with this and my Marauder story, it's just that i have literally had no free time on my hands, even with putting my work off. If only there was more hours in the day.
Anywho, here's chapter FOUR lol. Enjoy!
Lottie closed her eyes as she took in some much needed deep breaths, her chest heaved up a down, as the damp white nightgown clung to her clammy body and bleeding scratches.
Lottie brought her hand up to her head and wiped her brow as she began to hear thunder outside as rain began pelting against the door. Her hand then traced down her cheek and her neck until it came to her shoulder where her nightgown had ripped.
Lottie turned her head and looked down at her shoulder and saw there was quite a wide gash, but the gash itself wasn't what was hurting, it was all the dirt and tiny bits of twigs that had gotten inside.
Lottie gently wiped her hand over the gash, hissing in pain as she did so, trying to get a bit of the dirt out, but her hands were just as dirty as the cut, it only made things worse.
Lottie shook her head mumbling profanities under breath and looked up to see where her running had brought her and when she did, she gasped.
Although there were very few candles lit, it didn't stop Lottie from seeing the sheer size of this place, and she suspected that this was only the entrance hall too.
It had high, stonewalls that had been painted an off white colour. There was thick, velvet, dark red wine coloured drapes hanging from the large windows, but they were shut tight, not a speck of light was penetrating through them, Lottie could see that they were of very fine quality, not the flimsy pieces of cotton her father had curtains made out of at home. There was a large, fluffy Persian rug, which was made up of many intricate designs that took up most of the floor.
On the left side of the room, there was a large portrait hanging on the wall, but it was too dark for Lottie to see who it was, and underneath the picture, was a wide loveseat sofa, Lottie suspected that it was very comfortable to sit on, and at this moment in time, it seemed like a very good idea.
But Lottie quickly shook her head, she could hardly help herself to some stranger's furniture without informing them of her presence first, it wasn't good manners. Besides, Lottie thought as she glanced around the dark, and chilly room again, it's not exactly the cheeriest of places to be on your own.
With that thought in mind, Lottie cautiously walked around the outskirts of the room, she didn't want to step on such an expensive looking rug with her muddy boots and ruin the thing, so she shakily tiptoed around it until she came to a cabinet, on top of which was a candle.
She picked it up warily, the cool silver feeling nice against her warm palm, and started to walk around the outskirts of the room once again until she came to a set of large white double doors.
Lottie looked behind her at the front door again, before slowly turning back around and grasping the door handle firmly.
She carefully opened the door, and peeked her head around and her eyes widened when she did so.
She stepped out from behind the door, and slowly walked forwards with her mouth and eyes wide open in amazement.
This room was even bigger than the one before. It had high walls like the other room, only these were covered in beautiful wallpaper. The floors were made of a cream marble, with a dark brown design running along the outskirts of the floor. On the far end of the room, was another set of large white double doors, and above them was a balcony, which had two staircases leading off it, one on either side of the doors. The stairs were covered, in a long red carpet with gold trimmings, and the walls beside them were filled with lanterns and pictures, which were located on either side of two huge windows, but like the other room, they were covered by thick, velvet, dark red wine coloured drapes.
As Lottie stepped into the room, she could see that there were many more doors that she assumed lead to rooms far greater than this, but what really caught her eye was the ceiling above her, where a magnificent, crystal chandelier hung beautifully. She watched as the light from her candle, added to those scattered around the room, caught the crystals and bounced off them creating beautiful multi-coloured patterns on the walls around the room. Lottie suspected that she could stay in this room forever, just watching the stunning patterns and colours the crystals made, but she knew she couldn't, this wasn't her home, she once again reminded herself.
Lottie looked around the room again, past all the high-class chairs and furniture and when she could see no one she called out faintly "Hello?"
Lottie waited, seeing if anyone would answer and when they didn't, she said loudly "Hello, is anyone there?"
Lottie stepped further into the room upon hearing nothing and frowned.
Maybe they hadn't heard her?
This is a enormous place after all, there are many rooms to inhabit, she assumed, the only way she was going to come across anyone is if she went looking for them.
So that's what she did.
Instead of waiting around to be found, she went looking for the owner of this magnificent place, and as she suspected, the rest of it was just as grand, but she did notice that the further into the place she went, the darker it got and the more signs of life there were, although it was very neat and tidy, the rest of the house was absolutely pristine, in comparison, this part looked like a tip.
Lottie cautiously walked over to one of the many doors along this corridor, and after hesitating for a moment, she grabbed the doorknob and turned it slowly, expecting something to happen. But as the door slowly swung forwards, creaking very slightly as it does so, and nothing happened, Lottie stepped forwards and peeped around the door and her eyes widened.
The room screamed class. It had two expensive looking light pink sofas sitting on either side of a beautiful, gold, purple, red and blue rug, which was placed in front of a roaring fire. The flames danced wildly in the hearth casting a welcoming glow on the rest of the room allowing Lottie to see the large high windows, which were once again covered by drapes, the beautiful works of art placed around the room, as well as a stunning black grand piano that stood proudly in the corner.
Lottie's eyes dazzled as she looked at the piano and her fingers itched to be against the cool, smooth surface of the keys once again. She remembered the afternoons she'd spend with her mother just playing duets on the piano; Lottie was only young at the time so she never learned any of the more complicated and beautiful melodies, but her mother was brilliant. Lottie missed that sometimes as she spent hours cleaning up around the house, she missed the sound of her mother playing the piano, filling the whole house bringing a smile to everyone's face. Her father eventually had to sell it, they needed the money. But Lottie had never touched that piano since the day her mother died anyway, it didn't seem right, playing it without her there to guide her.
But now that Lottie had seen this piano, it made her realise how much she'd missed it, sure she wasn't an accomplished player, she couldn't really play anything that challenging, just the tune to some children's nursery rhymes, but it was enough for her.
Lottie quickly shook her head and backed out of the room closing the door quietly behind her, this isn't my home, she once again reminded herself firmly as she began to walk along the corridor, holding the candle steadily in her hand.
Lottie opened door after door along the corridor, but each time, she found no one, it was like this place was completely abandoned but at the same time it was impossible to comprehend that because, let's face it, who would abandon this place?
Lottie sighed tiredly as she came to the last door in the corridor and mumbled to herself, "If there's no one in here, then that's it, I'm just sleeping here, they're obviously not that bothered about my presence".
She inhaled deeply, frowning slightly, and reached out for the door handle but before her hand could grasp the cold, gold handle a suave and silky but also sharp and deadly voice said "Get away from there!"
Lottie's eyes widened immediately and she gasped jumping away from the door in fright and as she did, she accidentally dropped the candle plunging the corridor into darkness.
Lottie's eyes frantically darted around the dark corridor trying to see any inkling of, well, anything really, but she couldn't see a thing.
Lottie took a silent deep breath before saying as calmly as she could "I-I'm sorry, I was just-"
"What are you doing here?" the voice said in the same cold voice. It seemed almost hypnotising even though there was no hint of kindness, his voice was still alluring.
Lottie stumbled over her words for a moment, this man obviously meant business, "I'm sorry, I was just wondering if I could-"
But Lottie never finished her sentence.
A cold, smooth hand clenched around her neck and harshly pushed her up against the wall and said in a deadly hiss "What are you doing here? "
Lottie desperately clawed at the hand as it started to tighten around her neck as it forced her from the ground and spluttered, "I was running the creature there was nowhere else I needed help - I'm sorry! "
Lottie could feel a cold breath on her cheek as the man said "And you think you can just come wandering in here?"
Lottie was really scared now, she was in a huge house, one she wouldn't be able to find her way out of easily, and now she was in trouble with a very strong man, he was lifting her off the ground with one hand and it didn't even sound like it was putting him under any strain, was what Lottie couldn't get her head around, it really made her think what he was capable of...what he would do to her.
A tear ran down Lottie's cheek as she shouted croakily "I'm sorry but I needed help! The creature was chasing me, I had nowhere else to go!"
At the word help, the mans hand slackened for a split second before tightening considerably and after a moment Lottie once again felt cold breath against her cheek as the man whispered harshly "I don't help. I hope you like the dark, because you wont be seeing daylight for a very long time" and as he said this he grabbed hold of Lottie's arm and started to drag her down the corridor.
Lottie desperately dug her muddy heels into the floor, in attempts to stop the man, but it did nothing. She tried pulling her arm from his grasp, hitting him, biting him and eventually she just settled for throwing her body around trying to get him to loosen his grip so she could make her escape, but nothing worked. She screamed in hopes that someone would hear her, but the chances of that were very slim, she started to cry as she began to plea with the man, but he took no notice.
The man, whose grip was like ice, continued to drag Lottie down the corridor until he came to a small door. He opened it to reveal a small, dark winding staircase. He then proceeded to drag her down the steps, giving no notice as to whether she tripped, fell, or hurt herself, he just didn't care. She was in his home, and all who enter never left, not since...
"Please! I beg of you," Lottie wailed, "just please...let me go" she finished weakly.
Soon, Lottie heard the man open a door, and seconds later, she was thrown forwards and came in contact with a cold stonewall, and went tumbling to the ground groaning in pain.
The next thing Lottie heard was the man saying "You'll find no creatures of the dark down here" before there was a loud bang as the man slammed the door and started to walk away.
Lottie awkwardly stood up and practically threw herself against the door, and started to pull on the handle but the door wouldn't budge, she was stuck in here.
She started to cry out desperately whilst banging on the door feebly with her hand, as a thousand different thoughts ran through her mind.
Time passed slowly, and eventually, Lottie's hand was red raw, and her chest was heaving as she sobbed on the floor against the door. She'd worked herself up into such a state that she could barely breath anymore. Her face was full of red blotches due to her constant crying and her body was so worn out and sore, that it took up nearly all of her energy to just move her arm.
She was hurt, tired and confused. Lottie didn't understand what was going on, she replayed everything that had happened over and over again in her mind but each time she did, she still couldn't see what she had done to land herself in this position, if anything, it was that man being unbelievably irrational. She had merely come to ask if it was alright if she could spend the night here, not even the whole night, just until the sun rose and he just put her in here, without giving her a proper chance to explain herself.
Eventually, Lottie fell asleep, her body couldn't take anymore more, it needed rest.
As Lottie slept on the cold stone floor, she was unaware of the eyes that watched her through the small barred window in the door, but after a sharp flash of lightning, they were gone.
*Sneak Peak!*
When no one said anything, the first man who entered, clasped his hands behind his back and tutted as he looked out at the weather and commented casually "Awful weather, wouldn't you agree Basil?"
The second man, Basil, nodded vigorously saying, "Yes, utterly dismal, my, I've never heard a storm like it! And I've heard some st-"
"I have no interest in the weather. What do you want?" the man in the chair said in his deep suave voice, as he rested his chin against the palm of his hand, watching the flames dance about merrily in the hearth.
Both a fearful and nervous look appeared on Basils face, and he quickly nodded saying "Of course sir". Then turned to the man beside him and hissed glaring as his moustache twitched irritably "Of course he doesn't want to talk about the weather Emanuel, you fool!"
The man, Emanuel, ignored Basil, and stepped forward slightly saying calmly "Well sir, it's been three days"
"Three days since what?" the man said, not once taking his eyes away from the hypnotising flames.
Emanuel glanced at Basil, who was shaking his head discreetly, and coughed slightly before saying, "Since you locked away the girl sir".
The mans eyes immediately shot away from the fire in recognition, but he didn't look at them, he focused outside as his expression darkened at the thought of her. After a moment he said darkly "I have no interest in her. If that's all you have to inform me about, leave".
Basil nodded, and turned as if to leave, but Emanuel quickly grabbed his collar, and stepping forwards, keeping a firm grip on Basil, he said "But sir, with all due respect, you can't keep her down there, she'll die!"
This time, the mans haunting dark brown eyes shot to Emanuel's face and he snarled "Maybe that's what I intend".
...to be continued.
Right, well, that's another chapter over with, i haven't got time to stay so... hello! Goodbye! I'm late! I'm late! I'm late!...Don't ask.
