"Hayley!" Zac's voice dripped with excitement.
Hayley rolled over sleepily, nearly dropping her cell phone as she focused her vision in the dark. The fuzzy red numbers on her alarm clock read 6:15.
"Zac?" Her voice was groggy. "Give me at least another hour. I need to wake up and get ready for school."
"No, silly, it's a snow day!"
She popped out of bed immediately.
Hayley pulled on her left boot and stood up, brushing herself off. She was ready- she knew what snow days meant. She picked up her phone.
"Alright, meet me at the golf course?"
"You bet. I'm bringing the Firebird."
"Sweet."
"Ok, see you." The phone clicked, and Zac's voice was silenced.
Hayley grabbed her red hat and shoved it down over her black hair. She gave herself one last glance in the mirror before heading out, her boots crunching down in the soft, white powder. She inhaled a big breath of winter air, smiling. A few flakes lazily drifted down, and she couldn't resist sticking out her tongue and catching a few.
After narrowly avoiding a nasty fall on a patch of ice, she climbed into her old car. With a mumbled, "please, please start this time," she started the cranky engine and pulled the car out of her driveway.
Hayley saw Zac standing in the parking lot of the golf course with that monster of a sled- she could've spotted him from a mile away with that thing. She pulled into a spot and climbed out, laughing.
"Every snow day it gets bigger and uglier," She giggled, taking the sled from her friend and marveling at it. It was taller and much wider than she was, and a terribly garish shade of orange. There were small dents (they'd knocked out the larger ones so it would run) and scuff marks all over it. The Firebird!!! was scrawled on the front in black sharpie, slightly faded from all the years of use since Hayley and Zac had first written it on there. Badly drawn flames and bird's wings lined the sides.
"Are you kidding?" Zac made a face and pulled the sled from her. "It's beautiful."
Laughing, the two of them raced to their favorite hill. It was partially hidden behind a stately row of evergreen trees, and it was easily the biggest hill on the golf course. It had a perfect smooth curve- not a single bump on it. The grass was cut super low, so even if there wasn't a lot of snow, it was enough to get up a good momentum. It was tall and steep, and there weren't any trees or bushes near the base that could make you crash. It was the epitome of a perfect sledding hill.
Hayley and Zac panted their way to the top, their breath coming out in excited puffs. Zac reached the top a few moments before Hayley, and he held out his hand to help to her to the peak.
"Snow's really slippery today," She noted as Zac hoisted her up. "We'll be able to go really fast."
Zac nodded, and positioned the sled so that they could get in. He plunked down in it first, letting a foot hang over the side so the sled wouldn't move. Hayley gently sat down, inbetween Zac's legs with her back pushed up against his chest.
"You got taller," He noted as she squished against him. Hayley blushed a little- being close to Zac always made her nervous.
"You ready? He asked softly, putting his arms around her like he always did. Hayley felt little tingles up her arms. She gripped the sides and nodded.
Zac pulled his leg up into the sled. Slowly, it careened on the edge and began to move, then picked up speed. They were dashing down the snowy hill at record speeds, screaming and laughing into the wind. Hayley's hat blew off into Zac's face and then over his head, disappearing into the snow.
There were going down quickly and smoothly when a long-forgotten golf ball seemed to materialize out of nowhere. The Firebird jammed into the ball, and the two went spinning out of it. Hayley tumbled out onto the soft snow, laughing loudly as she sunk in. She lay there for a few moments, just laughing and panting.
She lifted her head up out of the powder. "Zac?" She called. He came rushing over and plopped to his knees beside her. He, too, was panting. He leaned over her, a concerned look on his face.
"Are you ok, Hayley?"
"I'm fine," She laughed. "Are you?"
"Yeah." He helped her sit up. "I think that was the first time we've crashed since we were like, ten."
"I know!" She giggled.
"Oh, gosh," Zac reached up and touched the top of her head. "Where's your hat?"
"I don't know," She said. "We'll find it."
Slowly, Zac ran his gloved hand from the top of her head through her hair. He took off his glove and gently touched her cheek.
"Are you sure you're ok?" He asked again.
"I'm fine, Zac," She said, a bit uneasily. "Are you sure you're ok?"
"Me?" Zac chuckled. He leaned in and kissed her. "I'm perfect."
Yaaay.
That was cute, huh?

Snow Day! (Zac Farro)
Layout by Sorrowful September This is mostly for Hayley, because I promised her one like 23988109830 years ago and I finally wrote it. But it's also for Pocket Rocket, which is this awesome writing group thing that you should totally join, by the way. =D Ugh. I don't really like Zac Farro that much. Oh well. I like this oneshot. Mostly because I'm actually having a snow day today. But I tried to go sledding and I failed. DXDid you like this story? Make one of your own!
