"I still feel sick." Brendon groaned, clutching his stomach.
Whiners and public transport don't make a good mix. It's Sunday now, and Faith and her new boyfriend Dom had invited us to go to a theme park with them. I was right yesterday, Brendon felt sick after licking the bowls he had barely any cake. Actually, he took a tiny bite out of one tiny slice and refused to eat anymore. Sucked in. Anyway yeah, we said we'd meet in the strip and have lunch, because theme park food is gross and overpriced.
Right now we were on a train. Summerlin was only about 10 kms away from the strip (Depending which part of Summerlin you lived in) so there was only 4 stops from our station to the strip.
"Told you so." I said brightly.
"Shut up." He said grumply.
"No you shut up!" I said.
"Why don't you both shut up? Fuckin' idiots." a guy, a few years older than us with his hood up screamed at us both.
We both stopped talking, in fear of this guy. We only exchanged small conversation until we got off at Las Vegas station.
"Where are they meeting us?" Brendon asked, as we walked off the platform and became part of the busy crowd.
"On the steps." I shrugged, as we put our tickets in the barrier things and walked through as they opened.
"Won't it be crowded?" He asked.
"Brendon, for someone who has lived close to the strip all their life you certainly don't know much about it." I said blankly, as Faith ran up to me quickly.
"MODESTY." She screamed in my ear.
"Screw you." I stiffly said, crossing my arms.
"Incest." She giggled and I just rolled my eyes. "Oh by the way this is Dom. Dom this is Modesty and her boyfriend Brendon."
"Hi." He awkwardly said and did an awkward sort of wave.
He reminded me of Ryan. Well, before Ryan decided to start growing his hair and move away from pop punk and start going classic rock.
"So er, what does everyone want for lunch?" I asked.
"Um...babe what do you want?" Dom asked Faith, holding her waist.
"Yeah, probably Subway." She said, nodding her head.
"Oh great!" He said, with fake enthusiasm. "That's what I wanted to."
"Hey man I'm going to Burger King, if you wanna come." Brendon said, picking up on Dom's fake want for Subway.
"Yeah sure." Dom shrugged and they quickly walked into Burger King.
"Dumb ass boys, didn't even ask where to meet us." Faith shrugged.
"Yeah...I'm going to go get KFC." I said.
"What the hell? Don't you work there?" She asked, confused.
"Yes, yes I do." I replied.
"Well I'll ignore the obvious 'they give you money, and you're giving it back to them' debate and ask, shouldn't you be turned off the food?" She asked.
"Probably. However I get a staff discount with my staff discount card and I feel like KFC. Have fun eating your healthy crap." I grinned, and walked into KFC.
"You're exactly like them." Faith yelled "No plan where to meet."
I ignored her as I walked in. I scrunched up my nose at this place. It was a dump. I mean, yeah obviously KFC isn't some high classy restaurant where rich people go to eat. However I must admit the one I worked at was pretty nice for KFC. However our manager was always barking at us how perfect the one on the strip was. And from what I can see, it's disgusting. It was really hot in here, which means the air conditioning isn't working properly. The tables were gross, and looked like they hadn't been wiped down in a while, and the line was huge. Even our lines were never this large, and we had both drive through AND front counter to look after.
I decided to go with the greasiest thing on the menu, popcorn chicken meal. Popcorn chicken is cooked the same way chips are, in a basket in the oil, however it's in for 4 minutes and not 2. Also, it has it's separate oil thing, which is also used for nuggets.
"Hi can I help you?" The asian girl at the counter asked.
"Uh yeah, can I please get a popcorn chicken meal?" I asked, and flashed my staff discount card acting like an FBI agent or something. I've always wanted to do that!
"Yeah sure, wanna go upsize for $1.30?" She asked.
"Hm...yeah okay." I said.
She told me the price and I handed it to her. It was pretty neat, because it was the same price a small popcorn chicken meal would be without the staff discount card.
"What drink would you like?" She asked.
"Um, mountain dew please." I said and then I noticed they had that sort of watery drink dispenses most fast food restaurants do. Another reason why our store was better, we gave out actual cans and bottles and stuff.
Anywhoo, I exited and then texted Faith asking where she was. Before she replied Brendon came running down and blew on my ear.
"I'm not going to ask." I said, a bit creeped out.
So we were walking around trying to find subway when Dom got a text.
"Um, she said to meet her at the bus stop." He said.
"...Which one?" Me and Brendon asked together.
"Iunno." Dom shrugged and we sighed.
He texted back asking her which one, and a while later he got a reply.
"Oh, the one that's like, right next to the station." He said and we made the short journey back.
I was saving my meal for the bus but Brendon was shoving as many fries as he could in his mouth, while walking and grabbing onto the bag.
"That's smart, multi tasking." I said sarcastically but he smiled, but quickly covered his mouth.
"Meh, at least you're not like my grandma." I shivered, at her bad habits and manners.
I was bought back to reality by Faith shouting at us all.
"GUYS, THAT WAS INTELLIGENT, LEAVING ME ALL BY MYSELF AND MEETING UP." She sulked.
I just rolled my eyes, Faith was a bit of a drama queen princess, but Brendon was rooted to the spot in half mock fear, half...well not fear but he wasn't exactly comfortable.
Dom shut her up by kissing her.
"So what now?" I asked, once Faith had calmed down.
"Oh, we catch a bus. It's not too far away from here, about a 40 minute bus ride though but that's because of the side streets and passengers." She said.
"Are you allowed to eat on the bus?" I asked, looking at my food.
"Meh, it's not like anyone cares." She shrugged as the bus arrived.
We all validated our bus passes and quickly ran to the back.
The bus ride wasn't exactly short, but it wasn't as long and painful as I imagined it would be.
As we got closer to the theme park, Brendon being the big kid he was climbed over me and pressed his face on the window. I gave a small, fake, HINTING *cough* but he didn't move.
I just sighed and waited until the bus stopped.
I was expecting Brendon to run like crazy through the gates and go on every ride he could, but he waited patiently as we walked in.
"So, where the hell are we anyway?" I asked.
"Um, I'm not 100% sure of the suburb. Someone just reccomended this theme park on the internet and told me how to get here. I know we're like, way east of Las Vegas though." Faith replied.
"So uh...?" Dom asked, wondering what happens now.
"Now it's up to you guys, we can buy all day passes for 30 dollars, or you can buy individual rides, 7 dollars each. Now I think 7 dollars is a rip off so I'm going to buy an all day pass however feel free to do whatever you want." Faith declared
"Yeah I'm buying an all day pass." I nodded and looked at the two guys who agreed.
"Alright." Faith said and we joined the queue.
It wasn't too long until we were at the front.
"Hi, how can I help you?" The woman asked in faux cheeriness.
"Hi erm, 4 all day passes." Faith asked.
"Please." The woman said bluntly.
Usually either me or Faith would give the 'you are the one being paid to be here, so does it really matter?' speech, however we both must have realised it wasn't really worth saying and right now we couldn't be bothered.
"Ya, please." Faith muttered.
"That will be $120." The woman said and we all coughed up 30 dollars each surprisingly.
"Okay, here are your 4 wristbands." She said, passing 4 wrist bands under the glass and Faith handed one to us each.
"Have a nice day." She said, eager to move on fastly.
None of us said it back as we moved on.
"So what do you guys want to do?" Dom asked us all.
"You know what, I feel like going on a rollercoaster!" Faith said, with an evil look in her eye and looked at me.
"So do I!" Brendon said loudly.
"So everyone wants to go on the rollercoaster?" Dom asked.
"NO!" I objected loudly.
"Wittle Moddie is scared of rollecoasters." Faith mischievously grinned.
"Shut up I am not! I'll come on." I said, shooting her a venomous look but Brendon quickly came to my side.
"Modesty, it's okay if you don't want to. I won't go on if it makes you feel better." He said, with a serious look on his face.
"No, really it's fine I have to face my fears sometime." I decided.
Faith looked like she wanted to tell me she was joking and I didn't have to, but obviously didn't want to drop this fake childish fight.
"Okay, well we will go." Faith said, still a bit weird I actually agreed to go on it.
We joined the queue for the roller coaster, which was unusually short. Actually, even the whole park was, and the thing that reminds me of amusement parks is always lines.
"Faith, why are there basically no queues?" Dom asked, thinking the same thing.
"Iunno. Don't ask me." She shrugged "I guess because a lot of rides are down at the moment, plus this place isn't exactly new."
As we neared the front my breathing stiffened. Brendon side hugged me to comfort me, knowing not to say anything as he didn't want to embarrass me.
"So, 4?" The teenager our age at the front of the ride asked us.
"Yeah." We said and we jumped into the car thingies.
This wasn't a normal rollercoaster, it had small cars on what looked like train tracks, that went mostly around but had a lot of steep hill things too.
For some reason it ended up me and Faith on the front car, and Brendon and Dom in the second. Each car was connected to another one, so it was only us.
"So, going to pee your pants?" Faith mischievously grinned.
"Dom, get your ass in this car instead." I said, stepping out and we switched so I was next to Brendon.
He side hugged me again and kissed the side of my head.
"You'll do just fine."
***
"Wow, that was so fun!" I said, jumping out of the car and span around.
"Wow." Faith said, obviously a bit dizzy "You still haven't written the oldest rollercoaster ever though."
"Wipe that grin off your face." I glared at her.
"Huh?" Brendon asked, confused.
"Oh, when we went to Australia there was this theme park and it turns out they have the oldest rollercoaster that had never shut down. Modesty refused to go on it, but for months after she was angry with herself she didn't though. She was all 'Oh my god, I could have rode such an amazing piece of history!'" Faith said, imitating me.
"Yeah well, at least I don't get dizzy from a tiny rollercoaster!" I retorted back.
"Faith let's go hang out, we'll call you to meet up later." Dom said, quickly putting his arm around Faith and leading her away. I could hear her protesting though.
"So, what do you want to do?" Brendon asked me.
"I dunno, what do you want to do?" I said, but then grinned at how cheesy this was.
"Uh, ghost train?" He suggested.
"Meh okay." You shrugged and joined the long queue for it.
In every amusement park, the ghost train was always the one with the most popular queue. Why? I guess it had something to do with it not being fast, or upside down. Ghost trains were always incredibly lame so it was perfect for little kids. Scary enough to be a thrill, but not scary enough to frighten them to death. I know when I was younger my mom wouldn't let me near the rollercoasters, hence my fear of them. Dad always convinced Faith to go on them though.
"Wow that was so fun." I heard one girl say to her friend as they got off the car thing.
"Yeah I know. Did you feel the thing touch you?" The second girl said as they made their way to the exit.
"No?" The first one asked, confused.
"Oh they hire some guy to touch the shoulder of you to freak you out." The second one shrugged and then they were out of hearing distance.
I tensed up a bit. That's the only 'fright' that scares me. The unexpected one. Like those tricks on the internet that get you to stare at the screen and it pops up without warning. Scary movies and stories don't scare me, just unexpected frights that piss me off. I suppose that's the thing, unexpected frights scare EVERYONE, but I'd rather hear a ghost story in the middle of a graveyard at midnight than be scared from something unexpected.
I tried to hide my slight fear from the unexpected fright I was supposed to be getting on the train. I mean, if I'm expecting it I won't be surprised if it happens, therefore the surprise part is taken out thus, I can't be scared. Also, I don't want him to think I'm scared of a pussy Ghost train. AS IF
So after the 20 minute wait which was quite large considering we waited 4 minutes for the rollercoaster we finally got into a 2 seater car. We had to wait a while as the guy checked the screen, obviously if we went in too early there would be a chance we could crash into the car before us. Finally he pushed us in.
Yeah, it was lame. It was the lamest ghost train I had ever seen. All it had was a bunch of cardboard cut outs, a few paintings and a few dolls in cages basically. The only thing which would have made them get away with it was it was dark, glow in the dark and ultra violet. Although it was lame, I was trying to stay aware of that guy they hire to touch the shoulders. But by keeping aware I was all stiff, and nervous.
So the ride passed, and as we were nearing the doors I was expecting it then. But then the doors opened, and we were in broad daylight. Not a tiny touch on the shoulder.
As we exit we saw Dom and Faith making out in the middle of the park. A park filled with kids...
"TAKE IT TO THE FEMALE TOILETS." I said, running up to them and broke them apart.
"HEY!" Faith called out, annoyed.
"Quiet you." I said and Brendon caught up to us.
"So how was that ride, eh?" He grinned, and I knew he had sensed my nerves.
"And quiet you." I glared at him.
"Mod got scared of the ghost train." Brendon smirked and Faith just about fell to the ground laughing.
"Oh shut up, I was scared of the dirt and holding onto the hand rail when who knows who has touched it before." I lied.
"You didn't hold onto the handrail, you touched me on the shoulder in order to make me as scared as you. Didn't work." He grinned.
"Brendon, I seriously didn't." I said, going serious.
"Whatever." He grinned.
I didn't know whether to be angry that I spent all that time being nervous when the guy went for Brendon, or relieved it ended up him and not me.
It amazes me how I just had summer holidays, but in that time I did nothing and have nothing to show I had Summer Holidays.
So this is a crappy filler part, I'm sorry. Except I'm starting to build up the part where Brendon and Modesty start questioning their relationship, and Ryan comes along. I can't say too much without giving it away. Meh, at least this is longer than most parts I've been writing recently.
.Brendon. Good good now we're making some progress .Ryan. 18 (NOT SLASH!!)
I don't think Las Vegas has a train line, besides that monorail thing I THINK NOT 100% SURE, so let's just play pretend, yes? Also, the theme park & the train station is based on Melbourne's Luna Park and Flinders Street Station. Heh we rule. Flinders owns Sydney's Central Station anyday. Old buildings over creepy green tunnels? You bet.Did you like this story? Make one of your own!
