Crystal sat on the edge of Alex's bed with her head in her hands. Alex was asleep. It was all a little too much for her to handle right now. She wasn't a dy--lesbian. She couldn't be. She was never attracted to another girl until now.
She also figured that if she ever was attracted to a girl, she'd look nothing like Alex. Alex was a...freak. Or she was...different. She had pink hair, piercings, and she seemed to think that a black beater and dark jeans were a sufficient outfit for school. Alex wasn't even the kind of girl Crystal would talk to.
But in a matter of two days, she'd developed feelings for her. The last thing she wanted to do was pursue them. But she felt she had to. Because the awkward drives to Alex's apartment and then the unplanned...happenings was not working.
And maybe...if kept a secret this could work.
She was becoming the very thing she ridiculed since middle school. When her mother would tell her to put herself in other people's shoes, she didn't think this is what she had in mind.
She heard Alex stirring, and turned her head to see her staring at the ceiling while still on her back.
"So much for the 'never happened' plan, huh?" Alex asked, joking, but it was hard to tell with her serious expression.
"Will you leave now?" she asked.
Crystal hesitated.
"No. I figure we should talk. But not now." She said finally. Alex raised her eyebrows in disbelief.
"Are you serious?"
"Amazingly, yes." Crystal replied before laying down next to Alex and attempting to sleep on her shoulder.
Alex still stared into space, absently running her fingers through Crystal's hair. She didn't have as much thinking to do. She already knew her sexuality.
Her only problem was she'd never planned on falling even remotely for someone like Crystal. But she guessed it wasn't really for her to decide anymore.
Daniel and Chris stayed behind in the locker rooms before practice started. They wanted time alone that day.
"Hopefully recent happenings won't distract us from playing." Chris says half-serious. They stood up from the bench.
"Good luck with that one." Daniel said, smiling.
"Eh, we can do it." Chris said, staring straight into Daniel's eyes.
"Hope so." Daniel said, before kissing his friend lover full on the lips. They pulled away and held on to each other for a few seconds. And in terrible timing, the other teammates enter the locker room.
In instinct, Daniel pushes Chris away from him.
"What's goin' on in here?" One of the players asked.
"I think we got ourselves a couple of faggots." Another said.
"Gross. We can't have fags lead us to victory!" One said, truly disgusted.
"I'm not a fag! He was all over me. Dudes, I had nothing to do with it. I guess he's the faggot and he's tryin' to hit on me!" Daniel said. Of course they'd believe him. He was their captain.
Chris looked at Daniel incredulously, tears forming in his eyes.
"Aw look, Fagboy's gonna cry," a guy says, laughing. Daniel laughs uneasily. Chris wiped his face and angrily stormed out of the room.
"Well he's obviously gotta go." One said, high fiving another.
Crystal held onto Alex as if she'd drift away. Strange, but she was getting used to it.
"We're giving this a go?" Alex asked.
"Yes. Just...can we not tell anyone for now?" Alex got it.
"Yeah. No problem." Alex said.
"C'mon, Faggot, get up and fight back!" Chris slumped against the dumpster in the back of the school. Daniel had no clue where he was, for he went to find him and apologize.
Chris's nose was bleeding, his head was throbbing, and he almost couldn't speak.
One of his teammates grabbed him by the collar and punched him in the stomach, causing blood to fly out of his mouth. He let him drop to the asphalt once again, and another kicked him in the side.
"Hey you guys, use this." One of them said, holding up a metal pole.
"Nice."
One of them takes the metal and blows it across Chris's face, and he hits the ground on his side with an "oof."
"Fuckin' Faggot. The last thing we need is more of you around." With that, the team walked away, leaving Chris in a bruised, bloody heap next to the dumpster.
Don't let the ceiling fall...
One more to go. And bye bye.
Sad, really.
*sniff*
