Bound by Blood - Chapter Five: Truce

So, we tried to add some humor, since this story is so serious and grim and blah-blah-blah. Let us know if you thought it was funny... or not. Or feel free to give us some hints on how to lighten the mood or something with an occasional funny or two.

Armistice... Peace... Respite...

We don't know one another,
We don't understand one another.
We'll fight for cooperation
But our plans will unravel.
An unwanted connection will form.
And though our eyes see differently,
We both call truce.

...
The immense strength of the yell reached all ears near and far. A werewolf's ears twitched at the sound, a bit surprised by the disrupted silence. It was familiar, to some degree, but not well-known enough to have a good idea as to who it was. Well, at least by sound alone, not enough familiarity. Though by memory it was painfully obvious that the deep but loud yell came from the man who went below some time ago; Damien. Ariain did not know his name, or care to, but name or not she could imagine what he was going through almost too well.
"Sounds like Ebony's awake," the 'wolf said with a smirk. "I don't care about you humans, but I think it'd be in your best interest to inform that bastard Aries that one of his employees may be in grave danger." Ariain said to Aidan with a monotone voice that supported her feelings for humans: she couldn't care less what happened to them. That didn't stop a smile from trying to appear though.

To Aidan's luck, Ariain's dismay, he was still with her to be able to hear the scream himself instead of finding out the next day. He stayed with the werewolf for hours, much to her annoyance, serving her what she needed that he could provide, food and water, and of course just trying to get to know her better. Well, there was also nothing else for him to do around the coliseum now that he was appointed caretaker of the werewolf. Aidan sharply looked back to the imprisoned were' with quite shock by her cool tone and advice. "What'll you think she'll do to him?" He asked a bit curious but also in need for the sake of his friend.

"I can imagine a few things," She answered vaguely with a smile, enjoying the pictures she saw in her head. "Whether I tell you several possibilities or not doesn't matter. If Aries finds a dead man it won't be my fault, there's no way he could connect it to me. The only person's who fault it'd be would be yours for asking me pointless questions when I already gave you a warning."

Though Aidan didn't want to go to Aries without details, for fear of being scolded and yelled at just for trying to help with what little he knew, which only proved to be pointless and irritating to Aries in most cases, he knew he had to tell him if Damien really was in trouble. "Okay, I'll go find Aries." With that said, the young caretaker ran off in search of Aries.

"It'll probably be too late."

Back in the shadowy room below Ebony was strongly pushed off, her back colliding with the hard metal wall. She grunted in pain for just a brief moment before opening her eyes from the collision. Amusement sparkled in her eyes as she watched Damien, now standing, with a look of near panic frantically inspect the wound on his shoulder she inflicted on him with concern.
Ebony licked the blood on her fangs gingerly, relishing and inspecting the taste of the crimson blood that once used to flow through her caretaker's veins. She thought up something rather interesting from the look on her face. Ebony took her time though as she lifted herself up with both arms. The werewolf's ability to quickly heal itself truly was a marvelous thing.

Damien was standing and still checking his shoulder; the red of his blood was darker than his shirt and would leave a nasty stain. He was cursing and muttering things to himself. "Does thins mean I'll turn into a werewolf?" He asked himself softly but not soft enough to avoid Ebony's acute hearing.

"Not sure," she replied bluntly, her gaze slowly scanning her obscure surroundings.

Damien wasn't happy, to say the least, and looked to the 'wolf with an intense glare that bore into her back opposing him. "You fucking bit me! Why the hell did you bite me?!" He shouted with great rage while continuing to occasionally check the spot.

"I don't like you," Ebony said with a weak glance in his direction and a hand on her hip.

"Well I don't like you either but you don't see me biting you."

The were' turned to view Damien more easily, but still at an angle where she wouldn't give him the satisfaction of her compete attention, and so her right shoulder was out of his view. "I didn't realize that the taste of fur was appealing to you."

Her caretaker was a bit grossed out at first by the thought of him actually biting her, and there were several more reasons actually that made him sick. "You know what I mean," he muttered in a softer, colder voice.

"It's not like you'd be able to even touch me anyways, let alone bite me." Ebony replied with confidence but not a boasting or challenging tone.

"That's some pretty tough talk coming from an injured werewolf," He mocked back with a smug expression.

Now, with a smile, Ebony turned to face him, completely and appropriately. "The only one injured I see here is you." The werewolf's right arm was already completely healed in the short time that it was out of the peculiar liquid.

Damien was surprised and even a bit confused with the rapid rate of the automatic repairing of Ebony's shoulder. But he was still confident. "Nice trick, but not very original."

"So, I was right, you're not full human." The 'wolf said, with her brilliant yellow eyes set on her caretaker's injury, the bleeding had already ceased.

"Guess you're not as dumb as you look," Damien said out of spite, "Everyone here is spliced with DNA of a creature to better aid in working here. Incase you didn't already figure it out, I was spliced with-"

"A dragon," Ebony finished for him in a dull manor, already knowing and not caring what he had to say.

"Right," He said with a bit of anger from her annoying smart-ass way. "So, you know I'm not a normal human, still think I couldn't catch you?" The caretaker placed his hands on the back of his head.

"Yes." She said without care.

"Really...? Then you wouldn't be afraid of making a bet?"

"A bet...? That would be pointless and stupid. What could you want that I possibly have? More importantly, what would I get for beating you?"

Damien laughed a little, "Well, aside from the rather obvious freedom, what do you want?"

"Nothing you can provide, nor anything that I'd tell you, bet or no bet."

"You make things far too difficult, you know that?"

"..."

He thought it over for a bit, for the both of them seeing as how Ebony wouldn't be thinking up anything anytime soon. Yet, surprisingly she was the one to make the suggestion. "You have to do what I say."
Damien wasn't quick to agree but if that's what she wanted then he'd have to risk it for what he wanted; besides he was confident in his abilities even without knowing the full extent of the werewolf's abilities. "Sure, and if I win, then you have to show me your human form."
Ebony was silent for a while, contemplating over the bet. She too was confident in her abilities without knowing the full extent of his, who knew what he was capable of with dragon DNA. That wasn't the problem, in fact her mind wasn't focused on what she might have to do, should she loose, but her human form itself. Her face reflected the feelings of her thoughts, solemn.
"Deal," she replied weakly...

"What is it, Aidan?" An irritated Aries mumbled out, trying to refrain from yelling at his employee for disturbing him.

Aidan worked himself into a panic on the way to meeting Aries just by imagining all the horrible things that might possibly be done to him. "Th-there-there was... a scream! Damien screamed! Danger! He might be in danger!" He at last managed to stutter out.

Aries didn't seem to be surprised at all, or actually have any sort of reaction to it emotionally. "Hmm..."

Beneath the coliseum, beneath the Earth's surface in the dim laboratory a fight began between animal and half-animal began.
Ebony took defense, though it hardly seemed necessary from her point of view with his poor onslaught. Damien was quick on his feet, making Ebony run backwards, though it seemed just as easy as walking forward the way she did it. They were racing all around the room, using the desk to aid themselves each in a different way or accidentally breaking them in the process. Several times Damien would reach out to her, but always miss. Then, when he missed, she'd strike him with her claws, landing them in his arms, torso and occasionally his thighs if in reach. She'd even strike at the cut on his shoulder to add even more pain by reopening it. He didn't care about the pain her nails provided with every attempt he failed at catching her, he just didn't want to loose. Not entirely for the prize he sought for, but being showed up by a girl was pathetic in his opinion.
With both their eyes on each other they both failed to notice a certain object on the floor that threatened their success. However, that wasn't the only danger. Aries was striding down the hall and near the elevator that would take him to them and being their punishment.

The only thing Damien would seem to gain from the bet would be more cuts than he had in the beginning but he wasn't giving up. He believed that this was it, this time he'd try to grab her would be the one. That thing lying on the floor however stood in his way without him even knowing it, and even though Ebony somehow managed to avoid tripping over it, Damien wasn't so fortunate. Gravity took control over his body now and brought not only him, but Ebony down onto the ground as well. Quite different than the first time, though.

Aries walked out of the elevatorto witness their lips on each other's. He couldn't even start what he was going to say, it was mind blowing; he couldn't even keep a straight face.
Their faces were covered in just as much shock as his, if not more. It only lasted for a millisecond it'd seem before they got off of one another and began coughing and spitting trying to get the germs off of their lips with desperate attempts to wipe them clean as well.

"I think I'm going to be sick," Damien moaned covering his mouth as though he was about to hurl.

"And what was that about?" Aries interjected, a look of disturbance still lingered on his expression though most was clear to be anger, his eye twitching slightly.

Both victims of the accidental kiss sharply turned and faced Aries with embarrassment, neither could speak at the moment. Not even cool, calm Ebony could explain what just happened.

Aries' eyes narrowed when silence was his only answer. During the period of lacking noise he observed his laboratory, if it was possible it was in even worse condition than before. The glass cylinder though was still intact. Next, his line of vision fell on Damien; despite his dark clothing the dark red splotches of blood were obvious. Aries didn't require an explanation at this point, though he'd expect one later.
The boss walked past Ebony and Damien, over to the dent in the wall Damien formed earlier. Lifting off the apparently removable piece of metal it actually was he saw a large red button brutally hit underneath; it was broken now.
His gaze traveled down the wall and saw the new passage way. His eyes narrowed and with a snap of his fingers the room was closed. Turning back to the two with his eyes still narrowed he said, "I don't know what you two idiots were thinking but it doesn't matter right now. Clean yourselves up along with the room. I'll be expecting to hear from you later, Damien." He said coldly then exited the room through the elevator in an angry silence.

After Aries was gone they each looked over at each other warily, but the moment their eyes met they swiftly looked away.
Ebony looked to the destruction they caused in the lab, though it was hard to tell what they damaged and what damage there already was.
Meanwhile, Damien's gaze landed on the cause of the "kiss" which lay near him. He picked it up with a glare and inspected it for a moment; it was something made up of brown leather. Before mentioning it he decided to bring up something else. "What do you say, truce?"

"... Truce..." Ebony agreed but not without suspicion.

"Oh yeah, this is yours," The caretaker threw over the object to the werewolf, who caught it successfully. She looked it over inquisitively, not able to tell what it was. It was obvious to Damien she didn't know what it was so he had to tell her he supposed, "It's your uniform."

"Uniform...?" The 'wolf repeated with her eyes never leaving the garment.

"Yeah...." The worker said rather softly while looking away.

Quickly the werewolf's eyes narrowed. "What are you, some kind of pervert or something? Giving me such a skimpy outfit..."

"I'm not a pervert!" Damien retorted sharply turning his head back to face her. When his gaze landed on Ebony she was already beginning to dress in the pathetic excuse for an outfit despite labeling it as "skimpy", what choice did she have? "Hey, why not change in your human form?"

That struck a nerve.
"Pervert!!" Ebony yelled angrily and threw the closest thing to her, which happened to be a heavy computer, at him.

"I'm not a pervert!! And I thought we had a truce." Damien wailed as he ran from the flying computer.
...

And last but not least, Aidan's pic! =D ... Now we can get into the good stuff of the story. >D
