~Intro~

What would happen if the one girl everyone believed to be so happy and so good decided to turn evil? What would happen if it was all because of a broken heart? How would you feel if that once pure soul was tainted and she happened to have more power than you could ever imagine? Well there’s no need to wonder, because this is the story of that girl.

Riley Vargas was once a happy person. She was sweet and nice to everyone. She tried to not lose her temper whenever she was angry. She always tried to see the goodness in everyone and trusted everyone, even when she knew they lied to her continuously. Riley was a pure hearted girl and was always as fair as she could be. No matter where she went, she attempted to make friends. And like anyone with her usually strong spirit, she hated seeing anyone sad or depressed. She would not cry in front of anyone just so she could show them that she was strong.

Many people saw Riley as this girl who was so free spirited and strong. But none of them knew of her true feelings. She was happy, true, but she always alone. Not once had she found the right guy to be by her side. And this is where the real story begins. It begins with our young girl feeling that emptiness finally break down her walls and crumble under the worst pain ever imaginable to anything alive – heartbreak.

~Part One: Feeling the Heartache~

It was a beautiful day as the sun rose above the horizon. The sun’s rays entered the window of a young girl’s apartment window. The rays gently washed over her peaceful face and bathed her in its warm, golden light. As the light hit her face, her eyes slowly opened to be greeted by the beautiful morning. But that was not what went through this young girl’s head. She arose as her alarm turned on and the music from her iPod started playing. The girl, who would usually smile at a beautiful day such as today felt as if her heart was heavy and she was worried. Once the music started playing, more to her worry weighed down on her shoulders. The up beat yet depressing song of the “What Hurts the Most” cover by Cascada started to play through the girl’s speakers. She quickly walked over to her stereo and shut off the music to only have the song’s words still echo in her ears.

What hurts the most, was being so close
And having so much to say
And watchin you walk away
Never knowing, what could have been
And not seein that lovin you
Is what I was tryin to do…”

The girl shook her head and grabbed her clothes and walked into her bathroom. She showered and did her usual routine before she walked out the bathroom doors. The young girl stepped out of the bathroom in her dark blue jeans with a black t-shirt with the imprint of a tiger on it along with the words “Savage Tiger” written in Chinese styled font. She put her black and white Converse on, grabbed her black bag and ran out the door. She ran straight out of her apartment, ready for her day. She was excited as that day in particular was a special day for her. She slowed down once she was near her destination. She saw her target and destination in sight and smiled at seeing the figure of a tall guy standing at the corner, waiting for someone. She raced up to him and hugged him tightly, slightly surprising the young man, but hugged her back none the less.

Once they pulled away, she greeted him with a smile, only to have it whipped away as she saw the serious look in his eyes and face. She looked at him with curious eyes as he held her at arms’ distance and said nothing at first. The silence was overwhelming the girl, but she stood patient as she looked up at the man before her. Soon enough, she could not stand the silence and broke it herself seeing as he was not.

“Ryan, what’s wrong?” She asked the handsome man before her, her brown Asian eyes looking at him with concern, curiosity and worry. The man of 5’9” continued to look down at her with his hazel eyes that held no emotion in them. Her eyebrows creased together in confusion as she looked for an answer in his eyes as to why he had said nothing to her. Finally, he took a breath and then stepped away from her.

“Riley, it’s over.” Ryan told the girl. Her eyes widened as his words dawned on her. Instantly, she understood that feeling of dread that was in her heart when she woke up that morning. Her once bright and shinning eyes turned dull and hallow. Eyes that had once been clear of any tears were soon filled with unshed tears that she would not allow to fall.

Her head fell to the ground, suddenly finding her shoes the most interesting thing in the world. Her voice was meek and small. She almost sounded like a lost child who could not find her mother as she asked him that one worded question that he had prepared himself to answer. “Why?”

He answered her without any hesitation. His voice did not crack and there was no pity or apology in his voice. In fact, there was no emotion in general as he spoke to her. “Why? Riley, things are not going anywhere with us and you know it. Why should I stay in a relationship that is not going anywhere? I need to try new things. Things were great at first, but you’ve become dull and boring. Don’t try to come back to me. I won’t take you back.” Were the harsh words of explanation that he had given her as he walked away from the young girl.

Unable to support her body any longer, Riley collapsed onto the floor, landing painfully on her knees. But she did not care as her dark mid-back black-brown hair covered her pale tan skin. Her almond shaped brown eyes still held the unshed tears. Her head bent don’t, she took in a shaky breath, feeling one solitary tear escape from her eyes and slowly run down her cheek, leaving a wet trail behind in its wake. Weakly, she stood up on her shaky legs, that heavy feeling returning to her heart with every step that she took. As she walked back home, she felt herself feeling her mood darken, the energy around her body blackening. A look of surprise was clear on her face as she realized she was standing right in front of her apartment door. She pulled out her keys and walked into her home. She looked around at her brightly lit room and she scowled and went to her room only to be greeted with the same bright light coming from her window. Riley walked to her window and shut the blinds, instantly darkening her room and she seemed to relax as the darkness took over her room and her body and vision. She removed her shoes and crawled into her bed where she balled up her body.

Soon her hot unshed tears fell down her cheeks. As she cried, she felt as if her tears were fire burning her skin as it rolled down her face. Her usually happy feelings vanished in an instant. She felt as if her light of happiness had just vanished as she recalled what he had told her. The scene, though short, replayed continuously in her head as his simple words echoed in her ears. “It’s over.” It repeated itself over and over again in her ears as if it were a broken record. Her heart darkened, her soul blackened. This was the first time she had actually felt broken. Out of her previous relationships, not once had she felt so hurt before. The feelings she felt for him were true. She had actually loved him, but now, it felt as if all her attempts to keep them happy and in love were fruitless and a waste of time. And all it took were those simple words to destroy her whole world and break her heart into millions of tiny pieces. That was all it took for her to have a broken heart.
