"Kouga? Kouga wake up." came a familiar voice. Kagome? What the hell happened? Am I dead? "Just leave him Kagome. Maybe something will eat him while he's asleep." "Inuyasha sit." No, if I was dead that worthless mutt wouldn't be here. A loud thud was heard not too far away, making the ground tremble from the force of whatever it was that just made contact with it. "Damn it Kagome what was that for?" "Shut-up mutt face. You're making my head hurt worse then it already does." Kouga opened his eyes and struggled to gain a sitting position, raising a hand to cup his throbbing head. "Kouga you're all right." came Kagome's voice. "What the hell happened?" The events began replaying in his mind. The blue aura, (Y/N) screaming my name. (Y/N)! "(Y/N)!" His sky blue eyes scanned the surrounding area. There was no sign of her, and to his surprise it wasn't the meadow, he now sat near the entrance to the human village that Kagome usually stayed at.
Kouga leapt to his feet, fear and panic once again making its way into the pit of his stomach. Had he lost her? "(Y/N)! (Y/N)!" He began running around the small area everyone was located in. The near by villagers giving him strange looks which he ignored. He tilted his nose to the coming wind trying to pick up her scent. Nothing. He raced back over to the watching group. Kagome, Inuyasha and the rest of the group just staring at him like he had grown another head. His two loyal companions sat on the grass near where he had laid not moments ago. None seemed worried that his mate was missing. He grasped the hand of the raven haired priestess. Blush appearing on her cheeks. What was going on? "Kagome have you seen her?" a confused expression now slipped onto the girl's face as Kouga's hands were ripped away from her. "Stay away from her you dumb wolf." Inuyasha pushed his way in between a confused Kouga and Kagome. "I don't want Kagome. I want (Y/N). Do you know where she is?" he half-growled and half-screamed, his panic and anger beginning to show through.
Inuyasha slowly turned to Kagome, giving each other the same questioning look. Kouga turned; everyone was giving each other the same look. Fear once again took hold of the wolf prince. What if something had happened? Had she been attacked and he was unable to protect her. Kouga grabbed Inuyasha by the collar of his robe and pushed him to the side, the force knocking him to the ground. "Kagome please tell me where she is, I need to know." She looked passed him, over his shoulder, Kouga glanced in the direction where she was looking, to see Ginta and Hakkaku with blank expressions on their faces. "Kouga." came Kagome's soft voice; "Kouga, we don't know who you're talking about." a small smile appeared on her face, trying to ease the tension of the moment. "What? But she had been traveling with you for almost three months until I brought her to stay with me." "Kouga." this time the voice came from behind him, from the spiky haired wolf demon, Hakkaku. "K-Kouga, there hasn't been a female within the territory in years. We were coming here," as he points to the village. "To see Kagome when you passed out." he paused, uncertain if his leader was understanding him, "when you didn't wake we went and got Kagome and then you woke up a little while later." "Maybe you had a dream." came the small voice of the young fox demon.
His world became a daze around him and words began to fade too quickly for his senses to pick up. It couldn't be; it was too real to be a dream. Kagome placed a small hand on Kouga's shoulder; he looks at her until she pulls it back cautiously, almost frightened of him. Concern on her honest face, "Kagome? Are you sure you never met (Y/N)?" tears ran down her face at seeing the pain in the sky blue eyes of the wolf. She slowly nodded her head.
Kouga turned and ran from the village. "It can't be a dream." The wind whipping around him as he ran through the forest. Tree branches catching and digging into his flesh. But he refused to stop; he refused to slow his pace. He ran into the clearing that hid the den from site. Leaping onto the cliff that housed his part of the den. He sniffed the air lightly, there was nothing? The furs only held his scent. "But how, I had slept there with her the night before." He ran and leapt from the cliff, jumping onto near by tree branches. Running and leaping through the trees he descended upon the meadow. The once beautiful meadow that he remembered was now bland with no color, no smell of flowers. Shadows twisted and turned on the blades of grass as the sun became hidden behind dark clouds, the trees swayed in the wind. There was nothing here either.
Kouga trudged through the forest with the slowest, heaviest steps he could manage. The scene replaying eternally in his mind to torture him. Darkness had swept the day away as a storm covered the land. The black clouds blocked the sun and plunged the territory into darkness. Water streamed from the sky only to be swept up swiftly by the wind as it bit into Kouga's face as it flew at him. He didn't care. He had searched every place he could think of; the hot spring, the cave where he had marked her, even the area where he had first found her laying unconscious on the ground.
The thunder and lightning cracked the sky with light and sound as Kouga made his way to the large waterfall. His usually neat hair that was always pulled high upon his head, was plastered to him, tangled by the wind and soaked by the unrelenting rain. The rain made for poor visibility and slippery ground near the rocks of the river. Kouga followed the rock wall that hid the path leading under the waterfall. The low murmurs of his pack could be heard as he rounded the corner leading into the cave. As he entered an eerily silence fell upon them. The entire pack was gathered around a large fire in the center, along with Kagome and Inuyasha. The fire danced as the wind blew through an opening in the cave, making weird shadows on the walls. None spoke to him as he made his way through the crowd. He walked over to a corner where a pile of furs sat, just with in the fire's glow. He settled into them, his head hung low. He didn't care that the cold had reached his bones causing him to shiver. That his body had become numb from being in the storm for too long. He turned his back on the group and slipped into a dreamless sleep.
Kagome's POV
The next morning, Kagome was first to rise of her small group. Some of the wolves were already moving about the cave. Kagome glanced over towards the corner of the cave where Kouga had fallen asleep after his return to the cave. He wasnt there. Worry and sadness for her friend once again filled her mind. After Kouga had run off from the village the day before, everyone had begun to talk about what Kouga had said. It would seem almost everyone seemed to have the same dream, of a half wolf demon girl who had traveled with them over what had seemed like many months. But not everyone seemed to be able to give much detail about it. She would need to speak to Kouga to confirm her suspicions. Kagome crept away from her sleeping comrades and after finding a wolf demon to show her where Kouga was, she made her way up to the part of the den that was all his.
The gloomy light of the hour before dawn left deep shadows in all the corners of the cave. Kagome entered through the small opening leading into the upper levels of the cave. As she entered she noticed that Kouga was not a sleep on his furs at the end of the cave, armor and sword was strewn about the room. A small fire was burning towards the opening of the cave. Kouga sat by the fire, staring sightlessly into the flame. "Good Morning Kouga." She said as cheery as she could. He didn't turn; the only sound was a small grunt. She approached him slowly, unsure if he was really in the mood for company or not. She had never seen him like this before; it was confusing to say the least. She sat down beside him. "Kouga are you okay?" Kouga slowly turned to face her, an emotionless look upon his face. "How am I supposed to be Kagome? My pack thinks I'm going crazy, but who knows maybe I really am. I just don't know." "Kouga, I don't think you're crazy. I think I had a dream like yours too." Kouga turned to face her in shock. Could it be true? "Kouga will you tell me about your dream, about (Y/N)?"
Kouga proceeded to tell Kagome everything, except for a few intimate details.
"When I first met (Y/N), I didnt think much of her. I knew she was a female wolf demon; even a half demon is better then nothing now a days. I could tell that she wasn't from around here. She dressed like you Kagome, I didn't want her for myself or at least that's what I told myself. When I first saw her when she was awake was when she was trying to run away. She was beautiful standing in the moonlight; any man with eyes could see that. But, when I truly saw (Y/N), I mean truly was when she got hurt. It pained me so much. When (Y/N) woke up I was so happy. Deep down I knew I wanted to be with her for the rest of my life. But it took what Inuyasha had said to get me to understand what I was feeling, but maybe it was too late," Kouga stood from the fire, hands balled into fists. "That's why I can't believe it was just a dream. I know it wasn't. I will find her. I have to show her just how much she means to me." Kagome watched as tears flowed from the wolf's eyes, reflecting the fire's light in them as they ran down his cheeks. Kouga sniffed and angrily wiped at his face with his hand. He walked away from the fire, going to look out upon the pack from his cliff. Kagome followed him moments later, she knew that if Kouga was like Inuyasha, he was fighting with himself at letting himself cry. Men always thought it was a sign of weakness. The idiots.
The view was beautiful from the cliff. Especially now, as the rising sun grew to cover the horizon of the land near the den. Kagome entwined her hand with Kouga's, trying to comfort him. "I know you'll find her Kouga. I don't remember much of my dream just that in my dream there was a half demon, with long brown hair and gray eyes. She was very kind and I remember feeling happy for you, because she really likes you. I know you'll find her." Kouga let out a long breath he wasnt aware he was even holding, "Thank you Kagome." He let go of her hand and walked into his cave and started putting his armor on. Kagome soon made her way over to the door way that led back into the main part of the cave. "Hey, Kagome can you hand me my sword?" came Kouga's strong voice from behind her. "Hm.sure. Kouga, you know, I've never seen you use this before,"Kagome picked the sword up from the ground, looking it over. "It's mostly just for looks," He said, catching it as she passed it to him. Giving her a wide grin. Kagome rolled her eyes, but giggled and left that part of the den. Happy to have cheered up her friend.
